At the very least the criteria for the house is very vague G. The fantastic beasts sequel trilogy is partially meant to repair the damage that the fans reaction to the house has H. even decades after the release of the first book, the reputation of Hufflepuff still needs many defenders to try to make it seem equal Basically most fans think it's inferior which provokes a response, the house develops an inferiority complex which makes the house goes too far to prove otherwise. This is taken as confirmation of why it's inferior and the cycle starts all over again. This seems to take place both in universe and more so in real life.
