I didn’t even realize the og resident evil games used tank controls. I got used to them pretty quick, but the one game I can’t get a grasp on is classic tomb raider. I tried to take time in croft manor and get a grip but the tank controls are hard in that game

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one example of where you have a "modern" movement system yet Arthur controls like a drunkyard and his horses too.

@@maskednil God yes! One of the main reasons I never got into the Red Dead games, or the last couple of GTA titles, is the controls. I could certainly get used to them, but those games aren’t very high on my priority list anyway.

@@pimscrypt A fact devs often forget when they talk about immersion is that it's more immersive if something is smooth and quick. I'm more immersed when I'm able to play things in a snappy manner and get things done and get a move on. RDR2 completely fails in this regard. In fact, RDR1 soars leagues above it. It completely does things far better and I don't care if my horse's balls don't shrinks during winter, because John controls far better than Arthur. Also, one of the snappiest 3rd person movement system that completely beats many games comes from Capcom as well. Dragon's Dogma has the best combat and movement system, especially for a melee combat game. And it beats Arthur's movement in many regards. I pick up carcasses quicker. I don't waste time skinning animals as loot are dropped and picked up. I don't have to position myself by a hairs breadth to pickup the correct item. Items glow so I know that they can be picked up. I don't have to slowly browse a catalog to purchase items. Even when there's no targetting or lock on system my character seems to soft lock on the enemy I want and actually attacks them correctly. I run and turn in a snappy manner, without feeling like I'm fighting my controller.

So the best argument has to do something with how the camera is still and doesnt move. This is the worst argument i havr ever read in my life. I play dark souls games and more often than not i will straight up not move my camera and see nothing and i will still run thru a level or kill what im fighting. Galsighting yourselves into thinking tank controls are good is crazy. They are outdated period. You could play a game with modern controls and a fixed camera. Shit theres probably quite a few games like that now. Shit even fortnite has a fixed cam and do you know how often i just move sideways? Tank controls were a limitation of hardware - we are past that hurdle and now we must agree that anyone who "likes" tank controls over modern ones is just a low skill player like how they would call us for not being able to adapt to an anicent control scheme Also.... if tank controls were good.... why did shinji mikami say hes embarrassed about them.... why dont more games have them. Ahh right. Cuz they suck

Very interesting and beautiful analysis. But it's strange you don't mention David Kronenberg. His influence is visible absolutely everywhere in the game. All the biomechanical devices we interact with look exactly like what you see in his movies. I mean, the weapons are clearly inspired by the ones in Existenz. So if you own the artbook, I assume the devs didn't mention his work in there, which I almost find concerning. Maybe it's because he's still alive contrary to the other artists mentioned, and there may be a problem with copyrignt or something. Yes it's really that similar.

@pimscrypt 17 күн бұрын
I admit I could have put more emphasis on the Kronenberg connection, though I do mention his name once in the video. As for the art book, it's been a while since I read it, so its quite possible that he is mentioned in there as well.

@@pimscrypt My bad then, sorry about that. I missed the part when you mention him. 😅 To be honest I didn't hear a single review or essay mentioning his work. Yet it's so prevalent in the game that I expected it. Plunging your hands in disgusting biomechanical devices is kind of his thing. lol

There's a conversation in this game that I always found interesting. Indika and the guy are talking and she mentions something along the lines of 'no one can truly love god by choice'. It's funny cause, after I considered myself an atheist, I was terrified of the idea of speaking out about god. I remember my past. Every time i had to go to church it was forced. If I spoke out against god, I was punished. My love and devotion to god was never my choice. I was forced into it and was made to feel guilty if I chose not to.

13:12 THIS. I recently rewatched Andiematromic’s full fnaf timeline from around the time sister location came out, and at the beginning, she made it clear that “ I’m not claiming to have solved fnaf” and “even in I lifetime, I don’t think I could claim something like that.” And then she proceeds to detail a full, coherent timeline backed up by reliable evidence, with a beginning, middle, and end. Like, is that not solving fnaf? I don’t think we as the community even knew what “solving fnaf” meant.

you... you sacrifice - in a rather heartless way - multiple beings to get to where you want to be. You literally juice press little ones to get your quest done. That's pro-abortion? Yeah, you sure about that? Or is the pro choice 'i cant keep my legs closed and need to kill the baby' mask slipping? lets expand. A creature is bound to you, drawing on your life force. But before you move on to the next plane, you use *tools to surgically remove it*. Luckily, it gets its revenge. No, about as cut and dry as it gets, anti-abortion is the main theme im convinced now.

ive been watching so many videos ab Venom recently and even looked up LGBT themed videos ahh i'm UPSET at how late this video got recommended to me :( hyped to watch it rn edit: ok i agreed w most points! i didn't see all scenes used as example as queer coded and i think i missed some other scenes that did feel that way (like the toilet stall scene, the extended beach scene (tho i think Tom Hardy's fond smile before that, when he noted Venom loves him, was more convincing), the 'couple's counselling' line ofc, and Venom's commentary about the soap opera might be ab his own feelings not being validated too). i do agree that the fight scene was rather uncomfortable and felt like an unfortunate domestic ab*se joke (even if not intended). it would've been better if it leaned more heavily into either being just the fight where Eddie was a dmbass who thought he could take on the much stronger Venom with punches, or if it just showed them having a fallout and maybe Eddie throw out Venom's stuff as well. i strongly agree on that Eddie suddenly became some kind of himbo. it doesn't rly make sense, though it is funny. i love how they both share feelings for Anne though, it's kind of adorable. nonbinary masc Venom who loves their host+his ex and bi Eddie all the way! i do agree the development of their dynamic seems to distract from what should be the plot of a movie with Carnage in the title. from what we can see from the trailer for the 3rd movie, it seems that will likely not seperate these two things but develop both their bond and action-heavy plot at the same time. i'm a bit afraid one of them will d 1 e in the last movie though (to prevent more violent creatures coming to earth), judging by the title / tagline / trailer.

I hear the same rationale being made for RE5. "Oh, it's too MODERN". "It holds up FINE AS IT IS". I highly doubt this will be the case by the time 2028 or 2029 rolls around, and RE5 definitely will benefit from a modern remake with Capcom's upcoming REX engine.

I first want to mention that I've been waiting for this game since day 1. I remember when it was going to be broken up into 2 parts. I then, finally got to play it on my Steamdeck and it was...meh. This is NOT a game made for a 3 inch screen. This thing is a painting with so much depth and detail that you really need a large screen to see all of it, much less appeciate it. On the deck, I couldn't see object indicators nor did I notice the insane amount of background detail. So when I had to chance to buy this brand new for Playstation 5 on physical disc (Collector's Edition), there was no hesitation. And I'm glad I bought it because I so f'n love this game. Scorn is an utter masterpiece when it comes to atmosphere and anxiety of being immersed in a threatening Gieger nightmare. I've seen some negative reviews about it being a slow burn and the maps being confusing. I'd compare Scorn a lot to Carrion. Even though they're different games, both do a great job of guiding the player through maps, objectives, puzzles, and enemies. Neither game will spoonfeed the player, but if you're paying attention, you'll make it through. Which is why I found the level design in Scorn to be quite brilliant. The intricacies of creating a believable alien world and the complexity of having that un-human way of existing within it have NEVER been done to this level. Period. It's not a Redbull guzzling knee twitching Call Of Duty gamer's dream come true. In its pacing, it's much more akin to a Silent Hill 2 game, and if you're willing to immerse yourself in this world, you'll probably have nightmares about it. I did.
