I have the same dishwasher, GE Potscrubber 580. It was installed in 2002 and is still working fine. The 580 must have been the basic model of the line because it does not have a self-cleaning filter in the back. Anyway it is still going strong.

I found a Beta tape with me in my grandfather's garden, back in 1985. I have plans to digitize that tape, and upload some clips. Man, those are great memories. Sounds of summer? You better watch what you say, Neal is liable to copyright your video and yank monetization like he does me for using copyright-free music. Yes, I am familiar with that hissing sound the A/Cs make when they shut off. I must say, that is a pretty cool sound, almost like the unloader valve on a vehicle with air brakes. I did not know the hissing sound wasn't as prominent when the system was low. Makes sense, but I don't know if you had mentioned it. Sounds of summer---let's see, the stepper motor for the ice dispenser in the fridge is a pretty cool sound of summer, would have loved to hear that. I can almost taste the Bloody Mary now... I guess that is a pretty good idea keeping the shop vac in the cabana for the summer. Good to vacuum the cars with, if you never tried it. I'm sure that light by the hot tub isn't too hard to change. I'll say it again: What is a Shark doing in a vegetable garden? Never knew your grandfather had a garden, I'll bet it was real nice too. That's great you had some good memories with that. Also didn't know you were a Wheel Watcher™. Did you see the last episode with Pat hosting? I remember when Chuck Woolery hosted with Susan Stafford, and then it changed over. I was pretty young but still remember that. If you missed the last episode with Pat hosting, he made a nice little speech at the end (and I'm very surprised they gave him as much time as they did; gotta get in as much commercial time as possible (and they did)). If you missed it, the speech is online, as well as him being interviewed by his daughter Maggie. Worth the watch. I really wonder how the dynamics of the show will change when Seacrest takes the helm.
@Sharkie626
@Sharkie626 16 күн бұрын
He doesn't scare me. Let him go get in trouble in an electrical closet. I think this was the first time I mentioned the hissing sound, at all actually. Yeah that was the first clue that something was off, I do like that there are many ways for me to check how things are operating. I actually did use the ice dispenser recently, and yep, you were the first that I thought of, haha. The shop vac could be used for one of the cars, but why bother when you got central vac, in the garage? *tap tap* What I'm doing in a garden is trying to be politically correct in the food area! Oh did I never tell you about his garden? Yeah that was definitely a great childhood memory for sure. I used to watch Wheel a ton some time ago, then I'd say around the end of the 2000s is when it kinda dwindled off. I did see his speech, I thought it was very well done. Seacrest.......I'm honestly not looking forward to. He's not a bad guy, but he always just seems like unenjoyable and kind of flaunts himself. Reminds me of when John O'Hurley hosted Family Feud. He was just terrible. You might not know this host, but his name is John Michael Higgins. He may not be as young (He's 61), but I think he would have been great for a new host. His personality is very fun and enjoyable, and I felt would have been perfect for the show.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 16 күн бұрын
@@Sharkie626 The biggest problem is he's in cahoots with Susan. It's amazin how little things like that hiss can make all the difference with how something operates or not. I didn't forget about the central vac in the garage. When you can have a relatively small vacuum on the seat IN the car, it makes _hose management_ less trouble. Huzzah! Perhaps you'll tell me more about the garden when I see you. A lot of people have said the same thing about Seacrest. Certainly not bad, but also not good. O'Hurley wasn't good. I couldn't stand Anderson, myself. I don't know anything about Higgins except that his voice was used in Baby SHARK'S Big Show!

I do not not not want to add ANY heat to this room. I HATE heat! I added a window AC to bring the temperature down to below 68F. Be careful about the wiring. I worked on several of these about 5 years ago and was completely unaware the wiring is asbestos wiring. I had stripped several wires to make some repairs. So i unknowingly exposed myself to asbestos. There are also asbestos insulation boards between the side reflectors and outside panel of the heater.

I keep on coming back to these videos, because there is just absolutely something about them and this machine I'll always hold dear to. I was actually out and about today trying to deal with some people on a vehicle purchasing mistake I had made a few months ago. While I was out, I thought to myself "You know, I oughtta stop into this used appliance place that I haven't been in for over 10 years." So I stopped in for a few moments just to check the place out. I remember the guy who always ran the place, and he still does to this day, but he was away for the weekend so his son was in today instead. I told his son who I was and that I used to come there every day that I had the opportunity to when I was still a little kid and that I knew his dad. He said he'd mention it to his dad to see if he remembers or not. While I was in there, I had asked him if they had a machine like yours. I showed him a picture of it and then he took me outside to the "boneyard" and showed me a machine similar to yours, except it had no warm rinse and was only a two speed model. It also didn't have a dispenser or cap on the agitator. I asked him if it was for sale and he said they no longer sold the machines in the boneyard, nor the parts from them. I've been searching for a model like yours to see if it sounds anything like yours. Preferably with the original pump still in it. All that's to say, gotta be honest--as great as the direct drives were, I have yet to find one that sounds as cool and unique as yours does. I have two new-to-me direct drives sitting in my shop right now that I bought for cheap recently to fix up and resell, and though they sound awesome in their own respects, they just don't sound the same as yours! A lot of it probably also had to do with the acoustics in the room as well as the cameras you used to record it with. Gotta say one thing, definitely would have been cool to hear what the machine sounded like with the old pump using your newer Canon camcorder. This particular machine was IT for me back in the day, even when I first watched these videos in 2010 or so when I really started watching other people's videos, man, this was IT! Not even my 2008 Kenmore mesmerized me as much as this one did! Wish I could have been able to see this machine in person haha. BTW, I figured out exactly why the old pumps sound different than the new ones do, cool little fun-fact. I'll post a video about that one of these days. Do you still have the original pump from this machine or did it get left behind?
@Sharkie626
@Sharkie626 Ай бұрын
Thanks for returning! Yeah this machine was just so awesome to have, I do still miss it to this day. That's to bad that place won't see stuff from there, it would be so cool to have for sure! Yeah it's too bad my newer camera never got the sound of the older drain pump. Definitely would have been cool. I am interested to see that video about why they had different sounds, when the time comes! I do still have the old drain pump! In one of my drawers in the bedroom here. I sometimes wonder if the pump itself was never actually leaking but a hose that was not clamped properly, or the bleach dispenser which had cracked (I later repaired with some calk). So if I ever I get a direct drive again, I'm sure it can be tested!
@lizboz
@lizboz Ай бұрын
@Sharkie626 That's cool to hear you still have the pump! And if you couldn't take the machines altogether, at least you still have a nice little souvenir of them as well as KZbin history there eh? Haha. I wonder what the WC# is on that pump, it'll say it on the back (if there is one). I've seen some pumps basically like yours or like the one from that 89 Whirlpool I have, but they'll have a code on the back that starts with the letters "WC" and a different # on each one. Might be a year code, maybe? When you pulled it apart to replace the pump, did it seem like the leak was coming from the pump itself? Generally I always found they'd leak from the back where the input shaft is because of course, there's a bushing and seal back there that can go bad overtime. If it looks like there's a stain on the back where water dripped down to the bottom of it, that'd probably be a good marker to indicate that it was indeed leaking.

Usually, as long as you keep the filter clean and run annual empty disinfecting cleaning cycles, it will last a very long time, especially most dishwashers made by Whirlpool.
