I have the 2 GFX budget busters: Fuji GF 50mm 🧁 and the 35-70. It’s an amazing little lens. Only reason I keep the 50 around is because it’s a little faster in low light. Add the Mitakon 65mm and you’ve got a mean trio.

Hey! In case you didn't know, the film luts like the 2383 you use are meant to be used in cineon film log gamma. So in you last rec 709 lut node, you should put instead another color space transform and put it in rec709 for color and cineon film log, then add the 2383 lut after on another node!

I don’t know why Leica M2/3 fans continue to make the false claim that Leicas are built better than the Canon P when the Canon P has a metal shutter curtain that will outlast Leica’s fabric shutter curtain every day of the week and twice on Sundays. And that’s not some touchy-feely opinion; it’s an objective fact that makes the P’s build quality objectively superior. To be clear, I’m not hating on Leicas. I think they’re fine. But any person who hasn’t bought into the marketing or fan-boy hype and looks at both camera’s objectively can see that the Canon P (and probably other camera a well) are built just as well or better than Leicas. As far as design goes, I think one can say that the side-mounted strap lugs on the Leica is functionally better than the Canon P, and the focusing patch is ostensibly easier to use as well. However, the P has the larger 1x viewfinder, and it also has what any reasonable person would admit is a far superior designed film-loading system verses the Leica’s archaic and anachronistic bottom-loading system. So where design is concerned, what one considers “better” (in a utilitarian sense) will depend on the importance one places on any of those items mentioned. And because preference is subjective, one cannot dispute the preference of others. However, where something like quality of build is concerned, a camera whose cloth shutter-curtain is subject to deterioration and/or pinholes and will eventually require replacement cannot seriously be said to be built better than one with a metal shutter-curtain. To suggest otherwise simply sounds like fancy-boy hyperbole.

If you love this camera like you said in the video, don't sell it. You will regret it. 2000 dollars isn't that much money to invest in a photography career. So the investment in gear that you love and can use for 20+ years is so much more valuable in the end.

Love to see your insight on this topic. I feel like lot of people nowdays are just so used to seeing Leicas and other expensive gear that it became practically an standart to have one while only a fraction of us have the money for it, as you mentioned you had to sell quite a lot of stuff to buy the M2. Leicas are great, but you can definetly as you said take same photo with the F3 or just any other camera, all that matters at the end is the stock and the lens.

Hey! I use a software called DaVinci Resolve. For the white border, I created a 16x9 aspect ratio white background in photoshop and I use to place behind all of my photos. So in essence, I import my photos into DaVinci normally and place the white background below the photos in the timeline and then reduce the size of the photo so the white background frames it.

Please don’t feel like you’ve got to buy and sell equipment to keep your view count up… otherwise you’ll just turn into other boring KZbinr with their “I love this camera so I sold it” crap. A tip, stop shooting film, it’s abhorrently expensive, if I shot film then 100 pictures a week (which is nothing) will cost around £3,600 a year…it’s nuts. Oh and honestly, digital images (especially GFX) look way better too. Good luck 🙂
@michaelbennettphotoАй бұрын
Hey David! I think the point of me "buying and selling equipment" might have been misconstrued. Like I said in the video, I'm someone that doesn't hold sentimental value in regards to the equipment that I purchase. The M2 was one of my "dream cameras" and I sold a bunch of stuff to get it. After owning it since July and loving the camera, as of right now, I feel like my time with it has come to an end. I still love shooting film and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. The experience and the intention behind is why I enjoy the medium so much. I do appreciate your comment and you taking the time to write it out. Thank you and have a great day!
@vha42Ай бұрын
I understand the problem of cost, but a Nikon F and a Leica M2 does not “do the same”. Both use film, and the F could be considered to be a meterless camera because of the batteries and perhaps the age of the cells in the meter. I recommend one camera/lens/film stock year, and maybe sell the 35mm converted Contax G lens. It was not that good compared to the other G lenses, at least not then. its quite a lot of money, and you have other budget lenses thats as good, or better for less money. Of corse its less cool, less hype and less instagram. IF you have to convert one of the G lenses, choose the 45, or the 28 if it possible. TLDR : I understand the need to make content, but comparing a M2 and a Nikon Ftn? Both cameras and perfectly fine for its use case, but different in its handling. Give the Leica another year, but sell the 35mm Contax G adapted lens for anything 35mm, let’s say a color skopar 35mm?
@michaelbennettphotoАй бұрын
I think you missed the point of the video, it was not a comparison between the M2 and the Nikon F, it was simply a review of the M2 and then my reasons behind selling the camera. If you have watched other videos on my channel about the M2, you would see that I genuinely love this camera and selling it isn't an easy choice. I see where you're coming from when you say that the cameras are different, which I agree with, but as I said in the video, anything I can do with the M2, I can also do with the Nikon F. As a side bonus, the meter in my prism works and is accurate.
@vha42Ай бұрын
@ Point taken, thanks for a good reply and explanation. In my case its different, My Ftn have a broken meter, and I feel I do most things better and faster with my Leica Monochrom . Except Macro perhaps, and colour photography.

@@michaelbennettphoto Yes, I did because I am sick of people using this brand and that brand just to name drop and then make a video about why they are selling the gear. It is not important. What is important is the photos you produce with it, not that in your opinion a camera that is nearly 70 years old and you that you bought, now has a viewfinder that is of low contrats. they are not coated, that is why they are of low contrast, but does it or should it matter???And since I watched your video, does not mean that I have to agree with you nor that you have to agree with my point of view. Photography has become a childish game of brand ownership. all that nonsense of why I left Nikon for Fuji, or Sony for Canon. Ridiculous state of affairs.

@@Millicente Hang up? I call it as I see it. If it’s good I’d say well done, if it’s B.S I call it B.S. And no I don’t have hang ups. I don’t buy gear without doing research and if possible renting it out or borrowing it to see if it fits my needs. Over 55 years of photography has taught me that, I sure don’t blame my mistakes on the equipment. Leica M cameras are not suitable for the needs of 95% of photographers and if you already are not a photographer, they sure won’t make you one, no matter how much money you throw at it.
