The fact that the softlocks get increasingly interesting, and that the first chamber was redesigned to allow a simple form of softlock, make me think that maybe at first they saw softlocks as something inherently bad, but then realized, that you can make a meta-game out of this.

When dealing with Portal 1 you need to understand that this game is quite old and A LOT of things was gently remade or added years after release, mostly as 'semi easter eggs' for players who play again (and I don't mean just the radios)

40:15 Isn't the game crashing a hardlock, not a softlock? The "soft" in softlock, means the game is still playable(you can move the camera or character) but cannot progress further. The game crashing would mean the game is unresponsive and therefore not playable.

Nope, chamber 01's fixed portals would work without it. I assume the color swapping code was added to ensure there would never be a case where there's a blue<->blue or orange<->orange link.

Once you're soft locked, do you have to restart the game to continue forward? I don't recall there ever being save points or any options to restart a level. (Has been years since I played portal though).

You can start a new game from the main menu or through the developer console, but there's no way to progress using the current save (without glitches).

Im pretty sure chamber 05 is not a softlock. Have you tried to open the door again with the remaining camera and yourself? If it works, you can place a portal on the other side, which makes this one solvable again.

Cameras cannot hold the buttons down - only the player and objects named "box_2" can (for chamber 05)

the dialogue in chamber 0 isn't unique to chamber 0. it will play the first time you attempt to pass a cube through any matter field

in chamber 9 you can put portal under the door, so the botton half stays in the chamber, and top half stays at the exit area. its easier.

Columbo has a high re-watch value, because of the way it is written. Most detective stories it's a "Who dunnit". Columbo is a "How they did it" sort of show. With who dunnit's as soon as you re-watch the show, you remember who dunnit. But with Columbo, it's more about how did Columbo figure it out. And that's not as easy to remember. So if you space out the shows a few yrs apart. It's like watching it for the first time.

There's a much easier way to solve chamber 09 without the cube. If you place a portal on the floor such that half of the portal is on each side of the door, you can then fall through the portal and then jump back into the other half of it to get to the other side of the door. Unless that's considered a glitch?

In chamber 0 there is another softlock that can be achieved by getting the cube stuck on top of the camera in the room. This can be done by jumping on the sign next to the door and picking up the cube to place it on the camera. Great video nonetheless!

Doesn't having the door be jammed by a prop still kind of count as a glitch, though? I'm unsure if janky physics engines count but I'm pretty sure the prop infinitely builds up momentum while being stuck inside of a door. Hell, I'm not even sure if the door is supposed to just outright disappear when being jammed by the radio in test chamber 0.
