Very nice video, I have been watching so many videos about this area before and after the flooding. It is so sad to see all the destruction and so many people's lives uprooted. Thank you for helping out and hope we are all able to do a little something to help. I remember when I was younger there was a model train mag that had a small railroad you could model, it was the Yancey RR, I have followed that on google map the best I could and would love to have seen it operating back in the day. Best to all in that area and stay well and thanks again.

When you say God be with you, who do you mean. Do you mean that Christian Impostor Papist Created causer of hate and the apocalypes. Matthew 10:34 "34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me". If your house is on fire then call the fire brigade and do not bother waiting for Iesus. That is my recommendation. I can assure you right now that if there is a Hurricane disater on the horizen and approaching. Then that supposed Lord Insus Christos will not be stopping it or saving people. Iesus is just not about saving people. Not unless you think suicide is payment for the sins, crimes and terrible misdeeds of others. IE he supposedly died to pay for mankind sins. But sadly it did not work in his time and it has not worked for the last 1991 years since the cruzifixion. As the people, or the Law courts or victims may still want their fee or restitution.

The scenes from the former Clinchfield are beyond belief! Of course none of the rail related things are as dire as the human side of this! My wife and I bought a carload of items and took them to our church today, and in the few days they’ve had a 55’ trailer on site for disaster relief, it’s nearly full. And so many churches and organizations in my area (Lexington, NC) are doing likewise with similar results! We all want to help in some way, but not sure how, other than donations and prayers! On the rail side of things, a friend who works for NS tells me that the so called “loops” area of NS is supposedly washed away, and that NS is saying it’s doubtful that they’ll repair the damage. I know people say that the NCRR wants to establish passenger service between Salisbury and Asheville, but that makes no difference to NS! Most probable scenarios would be either selling at least that part of the S-Line to the NCRR, or getting the state to front most of the repair costs. NS spent millions on the loops trying to stabilize the roadbed, but it evidently didn’t make much difference! The disappearance of coal and the closure of the paper mill at Canton were nails in the coffin of the S-Line, but I guess Mother Nature drove the final one! Thanks for taking the time and effort to shoot all this drone footage, edit and post it! Not sure where you call home, but I hope you got out unscathed!

My worst fears realized. I well remember the gorge trackage being washed away in the 70’s in flooding not close to the levels of last week, and had little hope that it withstood the storm this time. The loss of life from this storm is already in the 60’s, but I’m concerned that the former Clinchfield might be among the final tally of fatalities. Coal was king in the 70’s, but in 2024 its nearly gone. Is there enough traffic over the line now to justify rebuilding it? And what about NS’s Asheville line? It’s all but dried up, and if it sustained major damage, I’d put it’s chances of being restored at close to zero! Thanks for answering my questions, and taking the time to produce these videos!
@blueridgerails17 күн бұрын
@@tomt9543 I think the Clinchfield line has a good chance of being rebuilt as we ran two pairs of mixed trains aswell as extra trains daily, totaling 5-7 movements. I’ve heard the starting cost is $150 million for the main damage. The Asheville district is almost just as bad, but NCDOT wants the line to Asheville for passenger service eventually so I doubt they’ll abandon it. As for west of Asheville, the bridge over the Holston river in Newport is totaled, meaning a complete replacement is needed for anything to run. Asheville is and will continue to be totally cut off from the national rail network for a good while.
