Cas, I can't get over how he was talking about you when he talked about people yearning to do something but thinking they can't because it's hard, when actually it's possible they just haven't found a way that works for them. That's exactly what you did when you figured out how to organize in a way that works for *you*! And now you teach it to all of us. 🎉

This video could be in a playlist by itself as a therapy appointment. I remember struggling with Microsoft Excel. The instructor said I needed to associate it with something in my life. That night I was dealing with my Girl scout troop's cookie order. I saw the rows and columns, then realized it was EXCEL! I figured out how to make it work and everything was okay after that. Cass, you and Mr. Coleman need to keep up the good work you're doing.

Cas -if you didn't have ADHD, and didn't have to move or be active all the time, and didn't have a lot of negative self talk, and didn't have a desire for more self awareness and self improvement, and weren't so talented and creative, none of us would get to tag along and learn so much about ourselves and how we are in the world. All those crazy things, that are specifically you, are really helpful to all of us. It's good that you are the special Cas that is the one and only you. This was a great podcast, thank you.

Good grief! That was the best 45 minutes I’ve spent in a long time. I am feeling so emotional after hearing this conversation. I found myself wanting to memorize all of his words and implant them on my heart and psyche. Of course, my ADHD mind can’t remember words, but I can remember feelings. And this podcast touched me in so so many ways. I will be listening to it over and over again. I’d also love to have my teenagers listen to it too. Maybe I’ll “just happen” to have it on during one of long commutes. 😊

Having ADHD is like having magnified emotions and addiction has raised its ugly head in numerous ways throughout my life! Going back to the beginning and forgiving yourself and starting to love yourself is the way forward. Thank you for interviewing him! And thank you for you! ❤️❤️❤️🥰

Hi Cas! You touched my heart around the 15min mark when you talk about trying the things that aren't working and then feeling bad (ie meditating), and as a fellow adult-ADHD diagnosed person, I wanted to chime in on two things here! 1. Looking back on pre-ADHD life, I felt like this was what I did all the time. Now, though, I give myself grace because I know I need to put a different slant on almost everything. 2. Look at what you did with the concept of decluttering?! You stepped back and said, "what isn't working here?" and came up with a new slant to diagnose decluttering styles, which is life-changing!! So, here is your permission slip to keep applying slants to other things, esp these that are bullying you or bumming you out. Love you!❤❤

Hey Cas! If you are still wanting to meditate ( I hope you don't mind unsolicited advice, I just want to save you some grief and frustration if you are interested and I am a meditator), instead of trying to directly empty your mind or stop thinking, find something to focus your mind on, and as you continually return your attention to that idea/thought/statement/breath, over time, your thoughts will naturally slow down and your mind will become peaceful.

Thank You ❤ very inspiring ... 'to do things badly' André Stern is very inspiring as well about learning and the approach to children - even our inner child. He never went to school and describes the dynamics of life and learning if your are free to do so - if your parents (and now you as an adult - it's never to late) trust you as a child or as an inner child to carry everything within you. And playing is learning and learning is playing - for a child there is no seperation - it doesn't male sense.

Just so you know, Cas- I actually do have a kind voice in my head now. She wasn't always there. Part of her script comes from you- I resolve to do it badly (career change last January and it's working great now 10 months later). I talk to myself like I would a friend. A few years ago she wasn't yet there and most of what I could hear was self criticism and self doubt- so go ahead and list "really good friend" as a skillset now too if it wasn't already there.

Great interview. Initially, whenever I hear the word minimalist I cringe because I find it really trendy and it's not me at all, but I know I've learned things from people I don't necessarily agree with. This interview delved into so much self awareness from childhood throughout life and it makes me think a little differently about some of my actions and reactions. Very interesting. The podcast of the book sounds really interesting, too. Thanks to both of you.

In the UK now it’s not so easy to challenge people. Knife crime has made it that way sadly. I do ask people if they’re okay if they look like they’re in trouble or pain etc. I also have time with no music or phone. Just get a shower and think about things. Doing my Dad’s grave garden puts my mind straight Xx Puts things into perspective.

Fantastic podcast!! I want to ask about “toxic” positivity. Maybe I don’t really understand what it is. I have struggled with anxiety and depression throughout my adult life up until a few year’s ago, and it’s true that plastering a fake smile on my face isn’t the best, but for me it was better than sitting home and being in my head and spiraling into negativity. I feel truly healthy now that I have healthy practices, both physical and mental. I do allow myself to feel truly sad and to examine my deeper emotions beneath my surface emotions but I don’t stay there. Letting myself feel the emotions and then gently comforting myself and reframing my story have helped immensely. One of my favorite podcasts of Cas’s is about getting energized and feeling lit. Getting up and moving and dancing and giving yourself a high five could be considered faking it till you make it, but it can truly help me feel better and break out of a funk. Truly appreciating what I have like good friends and a warm bed and food to eat help immensely. I try not to take anything for granted anymore, especially not the amazing people I’m surrounded by. Good sleep, unprocessed foods, deep breathing and being in nature are my best medicines. I’m looking forward to reading some of the books TK mentioned!

I am content with that though. Some over religious people thinks it's bad that I don't stop and get on my knees and bow my head to pray saying it's disrespectful to God. I don't view it that way I have every second I want with God not an appointment with him I suck at appointments and this works for me!

Some people are organized hoarders. All the stuff is nicely organized. Minimalist can be be so vacant. A place with just a bed isn't esthetically comfortable to live in especially if outside is concrete and lacks nature. There has to be a middle ground between hoarding and muniamilisim. I prefer the staging look in the home. There is no clutter but it's esthetically comfortable to live in a beautiful space with just the necessities. It's like the room model in a furniture store.
