Hey Paul,huge fan,as a European i feel like i can clear a lot things out as far as the differences in European and American basketball.First of all i live in Greece and here there is limited access in facilities or courts,kid's parents have to pay a monthly fee so their kids get to play in an organized team where they have about 2-3 hours of practise per week.Generally,its practises with 15-20 kids .So,what the coaches work is mostly ''toughtfull'' basketball with a lot of passes and limited time with the ball on your hands and 5v5 situations,they don't get to really work on their game individually and that goes as far as men teams,up to the higher divisions. So what you get in the end is kids who are 6 foot tall,at 13 years old,playing as bigs,but they end up 6 foot tall at their 20s,where they can't play big anymore,but can't really play any other position ,cause they dont even know how to dribble the ball correctly,or guys that play the 1 spot all their lifes and they have a really good feel for the game but the coach never puleld them aside to tell them to work on their body and their shooting/handling skills,instead they just tell them to play pick and roll. So,to make my point,the population of US is almost as much as the population of the whole Europe,plus there is a higher ratio of black decent people which means far better athletes. That means that talent wise,the gap is really wide,between US and any individual country even if you just consider the numbers.Not only that US basketball is much more free and young kids develop early on a very fluid and skillfull game when kids in european countries only know to play pick and roll and go from A to B.The only country who plays more transition game and a faster paced game,is Spain ,but they still have the european stracture in their game and you see that the result is having 20 players in the NBA every year.The thing that have changed lately because of the internet and the social media,European guys dont wait their coach to tell them what to do,instead they pick a ball up and go do drills they saw Lebron do,or Durant do etc in KZbin.So you get some unicorns,like Giannis,Luka,K Porze,that are gifted,smart,talented and hard working players

Loved this podcast! I grew up around Fairbanks and Hajdukovic came out to my village when I was in 3rd grade and it was a fun basketball camp. Can’t believe I haven’t seen this one yet.

thank you for this very informative pod cast, can you specify on how to help high schooler or even younger players like middle schooler to train their set shots, as you know they don't have that strength to shoot from the arc or outside, and with using your legs or jump this may be very difficult for them, should we have them start practicing close up and.move out to outside the arc to build that strength???

you actually can do what steph does pretty easily with his left hand guide thumb. His left hand guide thumb helps keep the projectory straight due to how steph holds the ball. some misinformation in this video on that comment.

When it comes to the mental aspect of the game how can a 11-14 yr old player recover from an AAU coach putting them in a box of being just a "shooter" or just a "post" is it bad to positionalize a player that young?

But what about shooting 1 to 3 days after a chest or shoulder workout. After some back workouts my traps are so tight that I can’t raise my arms? Should I still shoot the day after?

Hey pjf if steph doesn’t use a lot of legs in his jumpshot where does he get his power?
@gabrielsigler30
@gabrielsigler30 4 жыл бұрын
He said that Steph doesn't jump high, and that's different than using legs. Steph uses his legs as a main source of power, but because he doesn't jump as high he doesn't waste energy on his shot and gravity isn't against him, making it more fluid and more powerful

I know you always say a good shooter doesnt know what they are doing, subconscious. But to get to that level, dont they have to go through that phase of learning steps before developing that shot. My shot is broke now and I dont see how I can just be subconscious and shoot well if it's horrible in the first place.

i feel you, its just a proccess of perfecting your own shot and when you get to that level you just feel like you don't know what you're doing

You have to change your form or shot in order to increase your shooting percentage. So whilst you’re learning your new form it’s ok to think about 1 specific focus such as holding your release till the ball hits the rim. It takes a lot of work though!! You in the gym everyday shooting now? Once your shot has reached a comfortable place and you can make shots consistently that’s when you want to be subconscious and just catching and shooting the ball.

I feel like americans have better players because of the culture and also because of all the resources available. I am from Brazil but I'm currently living in Michigan and it's just insane how much more support sports have here. My high school in Brazil did not have a wooden court, or shooting machine, or even balls for all the players. So I think the reason why americans are so much better is that there is more opportunity to get better. Even if it is hooping at parks, which we had one in my town and the rims were always bent or there were ppl playing soccer on the court.

I feel players like Luka get overlooked in America because he's white and not super athletic. These types of players have to prove themselves and find coaches that don't profile them and give them a chance. This happened to me however I got really good at playing on the ball defense because of it.
