UPA Nationals 2016 was a success. Walked away from this meet injury free and feeling great. The total wasn't what I was shooting for, but regardless going into this meet my goal was to beat my old world record total of 2,353lbs without wraps. I had plans of going 2,400+lb total without wraps but squats didn't go as well as I had planned.
On my opener squat, 392.5kg (865lbs) there was a issue with the platform which caused me to lose balance, step back and miss the lift. The mono lift was sitting on the middle of a horizontal crack between two separate platforms and setting up under the bar my feet were directly on top of that dividing line between the two platforms put together. When I hit the bottom, I felt the platform move and shift apart and it caused me to lose my balance and step back to catch myself. Because of the equipment failure, they allowed me to retake the attempt as my opener, but on the round of 2nd attempts. So the first squat with 865lbs in this video is my opener, but a retake on the 2nd attempt of the flight. They stopped the meet for a few mins and readjusted the mono lift to where it wasn't sitting over the crack between the two platforms and I came back and did the lift easy.
After that happening, I decided to try breaking my old all time world record of 415kg (914.9lbs) on my 2nd attempt, which was the 3rd attempts of the flight with 417.5kg/920.4lbs. It ended up moving faster than I expected so I wanted to try something higher after. However, they only allowed me about 5 minutes after the end of my flight to take another world record attempt. I ended up trying 432.5kg/953lbs but missed the lift. I just wasn't recovered enough between attempts. The weight felt good, my legs and lower back just still felt pumped and slightly fatigued from the 920lb attempt right before. Between the other attempts, it was about 15-17 minutes between my attempts on stage, with a 15 lifter flight. I feel like if I had that same amount of time to just sit and rest between the 920lb & 953lb attempts, I would of had it. But now I have something to shoot for in a future meet without wraps.
For bench I stayed conservative on all my attempts because I didn't feel like grinding out any of the lifts and risking it taking away from my deadlift. On my last attempt with 247.5kg/545lbs, I felt like I could have done at least another 5kg which would have been a meet and all time PR for me paused. But again, now I have something to train and shoot for in another future meet.
Deadlifts felt really good, a lot better than I expected. My opener and 2nd attempts felt really easy. Usually after my 2nd attempt pull, I start to feel stiff and fatigued. But this time I didn't at all. I had the choice of either trying 405kg/892.8lbs on my 3rd which would have beaten my world record total by 2.5kg, or attempting 410kg/903.9lbs and finally breaking 900lbs in a full power meet which would beat my world record total by 7.5kg. Since I felt good, I decided to go for the 410kg on my 3rd and finally broke it in a meet. This made me the first person in powerlifting history to squat 900+lbs raw without wraps and deadlift 900+lbs raw in the same full power meet.
It's been about 5 months now that I've been training without wraps, so now I plan on getting back into them within the next few weeks and looking for a warm up meet to do with wraps sometime over the summer. Then I'll aim for something big towards the end of the year.

+DJPLER Thank you again for suggesting it. Had you not, I probably would have never tried it. I started doing heavy bent rows again double over hand and following those with grip training with the rolling thunder on my accessory day. So my grip is already a little fatigued before doing the rolling thunder training. When I first got the rolling thunder I was struggling to do 170-180lbs with it. Now I can do 225 easy (5 plates).

@Justmyopinion761 8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Lilliebridge glad to hear bro That rolling thunder is awesome. I can do 4 plates for like 3 reps bt then again i only have a 700 dead. You went into rolling thunder with an 875 plus so makes sense you could use 5 plates Keep at it dude i can already tell your forearms look bigger too!!!
