I was thinking that if you painted the china 3D pieces black first then white it might fix the orange hue issue
@jesserooker86902 жыл бұрын
Looking great! Just tossing it out. You may want to cut down the decking under where you glued the aft C deck bulkhead. As once you get to the boat deck, the 3 deck layers worth of wooden decking will raise the boat deck higher than the hull sides. I know you mentioned it with the poop deck. Just not sure if it was an oversight not doing it on the bulkhead. Happy Holidays!
@TheMidwestModelShop2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great point! Yes, I forgot to cut it out when I glued the bulk head in. I realized that after I put it in place. So I’ll make sure to correct it on the subsequent decks to minimize the problem later on. Thanks!

Are you priming the China 3D parts in grey? You might try black. It's a shame they went with that horrible orange material. They're such fantastically detailed parts. I think the light from the windows under the Poop deck is perfect. Everyone seems to over light their ships. This was 1914 not 2014. The light should be dull and yellow. Frosting the 2nd class windows was a great idea. As you said, it is an area hidden by the cranes and ladder anyway. Great update. Hope you both have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Thanks Charlie! So I started with a white primer to minimize the number of coats of paint. This works with the flat pieces, such as the doors. So I’m inclined to believe the issue is just not getting the primer on all surfaces. The gentleman in China who does the printing recommends priming with a “metal primer” first, then applying a regular primer over that. And finally your finish color. It seems to me that’s too many steps. I do know someone who used black primer first and had good results. So I may go that route next. But the developers are experimenting with a new resin that is grey. It’s just an on going evolution.

Have you tried painting the orange resin silver prior to white? This is an old trick that helps provide a better coverage ability for the white.

That’s a good idea. I’ll give it a try.

Model is looking amazing! I was wondering and curious what the brand and color is you used on the aft deck and poop deck and bulkheads as well as the bullworks? The instructions call it “dark mast”. I can’t seem to find the correct color? Thanks!
@TheMidwestModelShop2 жыл бұрын
I paint the wall white, then go over it with model master “flesh” to get that look. The actual color is up for debate. No one really knows.

I have the KA kit which does not have the PE nameplates. How can I get the PE nameplates without buying the whole pontos kit? Actually anything would be an upgrade to the kit decals.
@TheMidwestModelShop2 жыл бұрын
I would reach out to Mini Brass. They are in France and make the lower hull plates. Including the proper name plates. Maybe they will sell you just them.

The waterways do not. But there’s some kind of bulwark in the kit. But it’s pretty crude.
