THESE ENGINES ARE MOUNTED ON STEEL FRAME MOUNTS AND ARE THEN BOLTED / CLAMPED ONTO A LARGE STAND WHEN MIKE WANTS TO RUN ANY PARTICULAR ENGINE UP,
MIKE ALSO BUILT THE FUEL / OIL TANKS AND NECESSARY PLUMBING TO RUN THE ENGINES HIMSELF,
I WILL UPLOAD THE OTHER ENGINES ( V TWIN + 3CYL RADIAL + 9 CYLINDER BENTLEY ROTARY) RUNNING ANOTHER TIME,
THIS IS A 1/4 SCALE WORKING MODEL OF THE De HAVILAND GYPSY MK1 AERO ENGINE,
PLANS WERE DRAWN BY LES CHENERY AND TOOK MIKE AROUND ONE YEAR TO BUILD,
SHE IS 57cc,
SHE RUNS ON UNLEADED PETROL AND HAS A WET SUMP FOR THE OIL AS THE REAL ENGINE HAS,
MIKE HAND CARVES ALL HIS PROPELLERS FROM LAMINATED WOOD AND IS CURRENTLY BUILDING HIS SEVENTH SCALE MODEL ENGINE,

Its' all good but the bloody wind just won't stop Pete, 15- 20 mph all weekend and today and 20-25 tomorrow! Looks better for Wednesday so maybe a evening maiden flight with the E-flight Spitfire. More projects and expansion at the mill (been crazy) but all good as well! How things with you my friend!

I heard the question being asked "do you do your own castings ?" but I couldn't understand the answer with these old Yankee ears. Master full work of engineering and great video work as usual . Thanks for posting and God Bless.

The original castings were made by a Chester duBiel in the US I believe. He has passed away, and I have not been able to find out where to buy the casting set since.

In hindsight, it may not be Chester who made the castings, but he distributed them. Merrit Zimmerman designed the engine, and Ron Colonna was involved in writing the article. I have asked Mike Rehmus, who publishes Model Engine Builder magazine, but he cannot trace the castings either. I believe that the drawings in SIC have sufficient detail to make a CAD model of the components to CNC machine or print them as plugs for your own moulds.

A muffler makes an engine more quiet. Not louder. A resonator will make it sound different. But not still not louder. Straight pipes are the loudest.

That engine runs the correct way. The Gypsy ran clockwise when viewed from front.
