I remember when I was younger we did a journal entry at the beginning of the day were o ur teacher wrote a question on the board and we answered it in the form of a journal entry. It's a good way to express themselves and work on their writing skills. We also did a "car wa sh" game where a student walks by everyone else and everyone compliments them. It was fun!

You're not weird at all! It's so true that kids need different things. I have one student in particular who is the same way. He doesn't like public praise, but he really loves when I come over to him at his seat and give him feedback or praise there! :)
