Supplementing Ginger in your diet will help heal and repair your body...
1. **Anti-Inflammatory Properties**: Ginger contains bioactive compounds such as gingerol, shogaol, and paradol, which have been shown to inhibit pro-inflammatory pathways in the body. These compounds can suppress the production of inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, thereby reducing inflammation at a cellular level.
2. **Digestive Aid**: Ginger stimulates the production of saliva and gastric juices, which can enhance digestion by breaking down food more effectively. It also helps relax the gastrointestinal muscles, promoting smooth movement of food through the digestive tract. Additionally, ginger can reduce intestinal cramping and bloating by exerting a calming effect on the gut lining, making it beneficial for individuals with digestive issues like indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
3. **Anti-Nausea Effects**: The anti-nausea properties of ginger are attributed to its ability to influence the nervous system and digestive processes. Ginger acts on the gastrointestinal tract and the brain's vomiting center, helping to reduce nausea and prevent vomiting. It also accelerates gastric emptying, which can be particularly helpful for individuals experiencing motion sickness or pregnancy-related nausea.
4. **Antioxidant Properties**: Ginger is rich in antioxidants, including gingerol and zingerone, which scavenge free radicals and prevent oxidative damage to cells. These antioxidants play a crucial role in neutralizing harmful reactive oxygen species, thereby protecting cellular structures and DNA from oxidative stress.
5. **Immune-Boosting**: Ginger's immune-boosting effects are linked to its antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Gingerol, one of the main bioactive compounds in ginger, has been shown to inhibit the growth of various pathogens, including bacteria and viruses.
6. **Blood Sugar Regulation**: Studies suggest that ginger may improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism in cells. Gingerols and other bioactive compounds in ginger can enhance insulin signaling pathways, leading to better uptake of glucose by cells and improved blood sugar control. By regulating blood sugar levels, ginger may help reduce the risk of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
7. **Cardiovascular Health**: Ginger's cardiovascular benefits are attributed to its ability to lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure, and improve blood circulation. Gingerols have been shown to inhibit cholesterol absorption in the intestines and decrease the production of triglycerides in the liver, leading to improved lipid profiles. Additionally, ginger's vasodilatory effects can help relax blood vessels and enhance blood flow, which supports heart health and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
8. **Pain Relief**: Ginger's analgesic properties are thought to result from its ability to inhibit pain-causing enzymes and reduce inflammation in the body. By blocking the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins, ginger can alleviate pain associated with conditions such as muscle soreness, arthritis, and menstrual cramps. Ginger's pain-relieving effects may be comparable to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) but with fewer side effects.
9. **Brain Health**: Research suggests that ginger's neuroprotective effects are due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Gingerol and other bioactive compounds in ginger can cross the blood-brain barrier and exert protective effects on brain cells. By reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and neuronal damage, ginger may help preserve cognitive function, enhance memory, and protect against neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease.
10. **Weight Management**: Ginger's potential role in weight management is linked to its thermogenic properties and effects on metabolism. Ginger can increase thermogenesis, which is the process of generating heat in the body by burning calories.
11. **Expectorant Properties**: Ginger contains compounds such as gingerol and shogaol that have mucolytic properties, meaning they can help break down and expel mucus from the respiratory tract. By thinning mucus secretions and promoting their clearance, ginger can aid in relieving chest congestion and cough associated with respiratory conditions like colds, flu, bronchitis, and asthma.
12. **Bronchodilator Effects**: Some studies suggest that ginger may have bronchodilator effects, meaning it can help relax and widen the airways in the lungs.

Ginger is a blood thinner and increases the time it takes for blood to clot. If you are taking prescription blood thinning medicine, ginger could add to the effect of the medication by increasing even more than needed the blood clotting time, which could be dangerous as it lead to internal bleeding and a stroke. So if you start taking ginger on a regular basis and are already taking a blood thinner prescription, you should arrange with a doctor to have more frequent blood thinness tests (Called an INR test) to verify that the regular ginger intake is not making your blood dangerously too thin. Cayenne pepper, another healing herb, has the same effect as ginger re. extending blood clotting time.

Thank you Dr. Mandell! I've read that ginger is very good for eye health too (the health of the retina). Something to keep in mind is that ginger is a thiamine (Vitamin B1) antagonist. Since thiamine is such an important nutrient, it's a good idea to consume ginger separately from foods rich in thiamine (for example vegetables from the onion family, which contain benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that stays in the body longer). I've also read that ginger has blood-thinning action, so it might be a good idea to replenish one's Vitamin K when consuming large amounts of ginger.

As always, GREAT information. I would like to know simpler ways to consume ginger other than putting it in a smoothie Also, I would like to learn your method for storing ginger. Peel before freezing! Cut before freezing? Do you have to let it thaw before using? Simple questions but very helpful

@@Shalompaz-m7w It's easiest to use from the freezer if you peel it and chop it in a food processor, thaw small amounts for your cooking teas etc You can also peel and slice into 1cm slices to use as needed without thawing it

Growing Ginger right now. Let plant overwinter, on inside, giving me a family lg plant. Now, I believe it’s lg enough to take as needed pcs, without harming/killing plant. 🥰 Love eating raw Ginger! I don’t drink a lot of water (always seems to smell like dirty fish tank🤢, regardless source). I put fresh or dried Ginger along w/Cardamom seeds…delish! Ginger plant has long (flavorful) stems w/beautiful flowers when they bloom. Just picked up some organic Turmeric, which is similar to Ginger in growing habits and looks. Fingers crossed, when Spring comes, I’ll have both!

Congratulations I actually enjoyed this video because you talked about natural immunity. And you did not add any harmful chemicals like honey. This actually makes sense to me so keep these videos going talk about the natural because I learn a lot more about the natural on this video than the ones you’re bragging about, honey
