Want a cure for neuropathy - quit eating sugary foods for 30 - 60 days and see what happens - it worked for me and it could work for you. I cut out all pies, ice cream, doughnuts, Little Debbies etc... I did this cuz my A1C test reveal I had pre-diabetes. at around 60 days into this sugar free diet(well almost sugar free) and my neuropathy pains went away by 90%. Plus I lost 8 pounds and I feel better and I sleep better and it didn't cost me a dime - it actually saved me money - and the pains are almost totally gone. Thank God. Try it and see.

Spray on magnesium oil and rub in. Epsom salts foot bath. Also try a multi magnesium supplement (5 kinds of magnesium in 1 tablet) as there are 5 kinds of magnesium and not all help. @marksmitchell2 жыл бұрын
I'm a man in my sixties and take more than 4 times that dose daily and have nothing but good results to speak of. I've seen no research on ALA that mentions anything about losing hair. I've been taking ALA for over 10 years now (started with 600mg/day) and my doctor is fine with my current dosage. It's hard to find any evidence that high doses are harmful in any way. Though it will upset your stomach if you try to take 2 or 3 of the 600mg capsules all at once on an empty stomach. Just for the record, I take 7 of those capsules per day. But definitely only take what you need. I'm well over 10 years into my neuropathy adventure, and this is not a condition that is going to improve over time. So my dose has increased over time. Good luck with your adventure.

When I was in chemo I developed neuropathy pretty badly, not just in my hand and feet, but along my entire trunk. Especially where the tumor removal scar was (breast bone to pubic bone). I was already taking alpha-lipoic to help protect my liver from the chemo. It helped a little bit, but the thing that helped me most was actually glutamine. It did more good than anything else. If I missed taking it for more than 3 days, the neuropathy would flare up big time. After two days of the glutamine, it would begin fading away again. I'm long since done with chemo, but I still occasionally get flare-ups of the neuropathy & I always will. So I keep glutamine on hand for that. It's going to live in my medicine chest right next to the aspirin for the rest of my life.

I read about glutamine awhile back and it was said to be worse than sugar for cancer. Cancer loves it they said. Right after I bought a few bottles. Supposed to be good for bodybuilding so I got it. I just ordered some vitamin B 1 that's supposed to help with diabetes and neuropathy from what different podcast were saying. I just tried eating bitter melon as it's also supposed to help. Ceylon cinnamon and extra virgin olive oil slow down carb digestion decreasing spikes to keep blood sugar under control helping to reduce cramps and neuropathy. You can also eat sauerkraut as glutamine is made from it I believe. At any rate it's good for stomach bacteria. Some on carnivore diet say it helps get rid of cancer by eliminating inflammation and helps with many other diseases as well. Some foods said to be healthy for us are very inflammatory and cause joint pain and other problems. Check it out. Lots of information on it. Carbs cause a lot of health problems, diabetes, heart, kidney, pancreas , thyroid, and other problems. Once you get diabetes your other organs want to gang stomp you to death. I cut out most of my carbs and my foot, ankle and calf swelling has almost completely gone away as well as my cramps that made me get out of bed usually more than once a night to walk it off. Getting more sleep now and that's been a problem for many years now. Lack of sleep leads to all kinds of killer health problems. Good old carbs will do you in.

Three years ago I had a severe complication due to diabetes type2. The pain was so excruciating that I thought I could have lost my left leg. After discovering the Alpha Lipoic Acid, I gave it a try. The pain was reduced 40 percent after one month and about 75 percent after about 3 months. After about a year, the pain was 95 percent gone. Now after a couple of years, I don't have pain at all on my left leg but still feel numb a bit on the left foot. I attribute this as miracle. I told my friend of my story. He tried it out without telling me and I didn't know what problems he had. He just told me how the Alpha Lipoic Acid helped him gain sensation on his skin near the elbows, the arms after starting trying this supplement about 5 months. No doubt about it, I told him, that I'm the living witness that have told you what happened to me and now it helped you too and I advised him to tell everyone he knows whom would have diabetes complications to take Alpha Lipoic Acid to prevent damage to the nerves before it happens.

Your post is useful, but sadly, it's incomplete. I have had Type-2 diabetes for the last 30 years and am now focusing on managing my diet and supplements due to facing neuropathy problems. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is great stuff, but many supplements are fake and expensive. I suggest users do a small amount of research and think before purchasing anything. ALA is found naturally in a variety of foods, particularly in organ meats such as liver, heart, and kidney. However, for those looking for plant-based sources of ALA, there are several options (I suggest eating raw rather than cooked) : Spinach: Spinach is a good source of ALA, along with other nutrients such as iron and vitamin K.Broccoli: Broccoli is another vegetable that contains ALA, as well as being rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals.Brussels sprouts: Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous vegetable that provides ALA, along with antioxidants and fiber.Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain ALA, especially when they are cooked or processed into products like tomato paste or sauce. Peas: Peas are a legume that contains ALA, along with protein, fiber, and various vitamins and minerals.Potatoes: Potatoes, particularly the skin, contain ALA, along with other nutrients such as potassium and vitamin C. Animal sources of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) include: Organ meats: Liver, heart, and kidney are particularly rich sources of ALA.Red meat: Beef, lamb, and pork contain ALA, though in smaller amounts compared to organ meats.Fish: Certain types of fish, such as salmon and trout, contain ALA, along with other beneficial nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids.Chicken: Chicken meat contains ALA, though typically in lower amounts compared to organ meats and fish.Eggs: Both the yolk and the white of eggs contain ALA, making eggs a source of this nutrient.Dairy products: Milk, cheese, and yogurt contain ALA, though the amounts may be relatively small compared to other sources. When comparing the effectiveness of different forms of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), it's essential to understand their differences: R-ALA (R-alpha-lipoic acid): This is the natural form of alpha-lipoic acid found in the human body. Some research suggests that R-ALA may have higher biological activity compared to the synthetic form (S-ALA). R-ALA is often considered more effective due to its similarity to the ALA produced by the body. S-ALA (S-alpha-lipoic acid): This is the synthetic form of alpha-lipoic acid. While it is biologically active, it is generally considered less effective than R-ALA. Mixed ALA: Some ALA supplements contain a mixture of both R-ALA and S-ALA. This combination may offer benefits by providing a broader spectrum of activity, but the effectiveness of mixed ALA compared to R-ALA alone is still debated. Na-R-ALA (Sodium R-alpha-lipoic acid): This is a stabilized form of R-ALA, where the compound is chemically stabilized with sodium to enhance its bioavailability. Na-R-ALA is designed to improve absorption in the body and may offer advantages in terms of convenience and effectiveness compared to unmodified R-ALA. In general, R-ALA is often considered the most effective form of ALA due to its natural status and potential for higher biological activity. Na-R-ALA may also offer benefits in terms of absorption and convenience. However, the specific effectiveness of ALA supplements can vary depending on individual factors such as dosage, formulation, and health condition. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice on choosing the most suitable ALA supplement.

Nutricost carries USP certified ALA. It's very inexpensive. That being said if you're on a blood thinner ALA will work against the anticoagulant efficacy and thin the blood even more. Always check with your physician or at least one of the medication interaction sites.

Don't bother asking your physician about supplements, as the vast majority have had no such background in their medical training. The demands of medical school are such that doctors had gone through more than a decade in a state of exhaustion and malnutrition, having time only to grab a bag of chips or cookies out of a machine. Many physicians and their medical staff never exercise or utilize proper nutrition, and of course, they never exercise. So, just how are they supposed to assist you with such information! At least, shop for a PCP carefully: you have the right, as the person who HIRES THEM for your medical care, to interview them the way you would interview any employee. They are not gods; thus, they aren't above careful scrutiny.

Thank you so much for responding, Jeff. Your info makes a lot of sense. I did work for some naturopaths some time back and learnt a lot from them, and that GPs usually seem to work in the 'bandaid' way; they don't try to get to the bottom of what is not right in the body that causes all these things. I live in the country so am limited in my health services, but would love to find a Functional Doctor as they are trained in both GP type medicine and also a more holistic way of working. As I also have inflammatory bowel disease I am very careful about what I take, and have sensitivity to a lot of products, even skin and hair products. The other issue is my MTHFR which means my mitochondrial function is not great and therefore my uptake of certain things, B12 and the processing of folic acid is inhibited, plus a lot of other effects, so absorption is a problem, so I tend to get my vitamins in an oil base. I will try your recommendations, but will take it a few steps at a time. I have an autoimmune leukaemia so I don't like to shock my system. I am on an immunosuppressant as well, I have to be careful. I have taken Gabapentin in the past and it saved me. For some reason I ended up with pain throughout my whole body, to the point where I couldn't turn over in bed, or tie up my hair, without help. It was so painful, and my daughter thought she would have to put me in a home if it didn't go away. Tried lots of pain killers, even morphine patches, all did nothing, but then my doctor said to try one more thing, Gabapentin, and it worked wonders. Within a couple of days I felt better. Be aware though, you do need to be careful with it as it comes with side effects, and hence I have not gone back on it. Sometimes when there are so many things going on you don't know which is the chicken and which is the egg, as our bodies are not all separate bits, they all depend on each other, so it's hard to tell which to treat, especially with medications. I'll go slowly. I know I have to improve my gut bacteria, due to my whole life of gut issues, so plan Number one, not easy but I don't think much else is going to help unless I get this sorted out a bit. I am hesitant about the carnivore diet as from everything I have read and watched, to have good gut bacteria you need fibre, fibre, fibre, and without vegetables and some fruits, how do you build that. Anyway, as I said, one step at a time, but it was great getting everybody's inputs, very interesting.

Hi Jen, Jeff here again. I just put in an order for vitamin B 1 off of Amazon. I've been reading up on it and a lot of people say it helps with diabetes problems having to do with the nerves so I'm going to give it a try. I haven't had much of a problem for awhile now but it can't hurt to take a 100 mg tablet every day. I could take more but more doesn't always help and if it helps that's good. If not can take more. Check out some videos on it. You might also try bitter melon. It's been used in Asian countries for a long time as a treatment for diabetes. I just tried some today and the taste leaves much to be desired but I mixed it with other foods to mask most of the taste. Check that out also. It's said to be a very healthy food. I started using virgin olive oil on many of my foods as it slows down the processing of carbs so they don't spike and is good for you anyway. I also learned about cinnamon being good for slowing down carb spikes. Ceylon cinnamon is good, but stay away from Saigon cinnamon as it's said not t be real cinnamon and can be toxic if you use too much. I got mine off of Amazon for a lower price and most stores carry Saigon.

I just bought this 3 days ago. I took it one day and keep forgetting to take it with my meals. I will now take it like I should. My burning feet drive me nuts. I have diabetes and fibromyalgia. I am 58. Hey Doctor I bought a 200mg pill it says one TID with meals. Is 600mg a day too much or am I ok?

!!! Greetings from Montréal, Québec, Canada !!! I have been dealing with 'Neuropathy' for the past 3-5 years (I am not 'Reglular in my medication taking, but working on it, bit by bit) still, I shall give this supplement a try and will let you know how much it has diminished and/or improved !?! Thank you for your advice !!! Cheers !!!

Make sure you're not B-1 or B-12 deficient. Benfotamine, a synthetic form of B-1 is supposed to reduce the effects of neuropathy.
