A woman's immune system has to downgrade in order to not reject the fetus (remember, it is only 50% her DNA). But it is a tricky dance as she needs immune protection. Her blood volume increases by about 45% by the end of her pregnancy. But it is adjusted, more plasma than a non-pregnant woman. The placenta needs to transfer both oxygen and food to the fetus. It is a lot to ask of the pregnant woman's cardiovascular system, and it all has to happen in response to the fetus growth. It makes sense to me that if the mother's cardiovascular system struggles with this process it may be a sign that she is more likely to have cardiovascular struggles later in life.

Yet nobody tells any of these things ever to young women. All I ever knew was that it will hurt a bit and you may get stretch marks. Thats it. Luckily I did eventually look things up online and am childfree now. I think the reason they don't tell women is so they don't end up like me not wanting kids.

@@HikaruYamamoto according to the research the woman in the video is talking about, pregnancy is like a stress test. It isn't the *reason* for cardiovascular problems down the road, but an idicator that you will have problems because your body doesn't respond well to stress. The reason people don't talk much about women's health is because there is a serious lack of research in that department. If you don't want to have kids that's fine but to say that it will *cause* health problems is a stretch.

@@leafy5432 Oh I'm not talking about just that. Theres much worse than just stress on your body where you might have issues down the line. That just adds to the problems and risks. I keep finding new horrible reasons to never get pregnant and this one is actually quite mild.

@@HikaruYamamoto of the many mothers I know including myself, I only know 2 who had any issues with their pregnancies but they were very unhealthy to begin with. Of course there are plenty of bad things that can happen with pregnancy as with all things in life, but reading about all the negative things that can happen might give you a false sense of how common it is in the real world. Don't be afraid to live.

I always had high risk pregnancies. My first baby was still born at 34 weeks and the cause was complications in the placenta formation. Me and My doctors, caregivers didn’t know, all of a sudden when babies moments began to slow and I literally felt less kicking and I rushed to emergency, almost after 10 hours I gave normal birth to still born baby. I had a very difficult time almost suicidal time as it was my first baby. And the worst part was when I came to know that this are 1-2% rare cases. And I was like why only me, what I did wrong or it was some curse. And now I have two beautiful daughters after three and five years. 🤞🧿

Why wouldn’t an increase in pregnancy related complications be a result of increased risk of cardiovascular disease by any sort of environmental, genetic or lifestyle related factors, instead of it being caused by the latter?

First of all, the title should clearly refer to women who have ever been pregnant (as woman doesn't equal mother). Secondly, if this is supposed to be a medical professional's talk, she should be saying "a fetus" rather than "a baby". I'm rather disappointed by this talk.
