I'll state this here as I've done in another video, the only trope that made me groan on the first episode was when Powder didn't listen to the full conversation between Mylo and Vi. BUT FIRST, it doesn't lead to drama, it doesn't go overboard, it's resolved pretty much two scenes after. SECOND, watch that scene again, while Vi bashes on Mylo she also says how Powder is her problem, so it was actually better for Powder not to keep listening to that conversation, because instead of just hearing how she was unfit for the group she would've also felt like she was a problem to her sister.

Arcane is pretty much flawless in my opinion. I only wished that the series had a couple of more episodes to slow a down a bit and to give the characters and some plot points more air to breath. Because of this, even I missed plenty of little details on my first watch that I just couldn't pay attention to because everything is going forward so fast. It makes for a great rewatches though! I especially wished we got more scenes of Ekko and Powder playing as kids so that their fight in episode 7 hits even more. People who said the plot is predictable clearly only watched to episode 3 if not less. I think the plot of the first 3 episodes is predictable, which isn't a bad thing, especially if you know from the voicelines against Jinx in the game that she will cause something terrible. But after episode 4, I really couldn't predict the plot. The show threw me off at every moment where I thought I knew what will happen next. Same with the characters just being tropes. While at the start most characters start off as a certain trope, over the course of the show, everyone puts their trope either completely on it's head or at least defies it.

there’s a large difference between forcing lgbt into a show, and lgbt literally just existing in media. when every other character is wearing rainbow flags and dunking on straight people, it’s probably forcing it. when two grown women have a relationship with one another in a show, they’re just gay and they exist.
@spycenrice81084 ай бұрын
I think it’s entirely possible for a show to have several gay characters and not make it feel forced. I believe if you’re writing about a society that isn’t homophobic, there’s going to be a wide variety of sexualities.
@ehodges114 ай бұрын
@@spycenrice8108 not quite. you gotta keep in mind that gay people are a minority of people, it just so happens that a good portion of people lie about being bisexual for the uniqueness now. any point where you see them all over the place and it’s passed off as completely normal is most likely going to be an example of forced sexuality, where the studio is more focused on adding gay characters than adding well-written characters who happen to be gay.
@spycenrice81084 ай бұрын
@@ehodges11 that’s not true. As homophobia decreases, homosexuality increases. It makes more sense for the “default” to be bisexuality. We observe this in Rome. It was incredibly common for men to lay with other men, because it was societally accepted.
@Xezian3 ай бұрын
@@ehodges11 the idea that people on masse pretend to be bisexual and its not just like even smaller of a minority of people than gay people themselves is absurd. The truth is just alot more people are coming out now because its safer to come out without risking being abused or thrown out on the street nearly as much as it used to be, and its generally more accepted overall. Even still if people are pretending to be bisexual what about all the people who are still in situations where they can't come out due to fears of abuse or hatred which is, way higher than you think, I know from having alot of friends who were LGBTQ growing up and just having friends in general growing up that so many people live in shitty situations like that. I can tell you from experience the statistics on how many people identify as LGBTQ openly is still being under reported because of situations like this, so all those people "pretending" to be bisexual are probably actually just bringing the number closer to what it really is. Also I as a gay person who like writing stories, occasionally like to indulge in my sexuality the same way straight writers often do, romance is a huge genre and since I'm gay I like to see gay romance, and when I write romance I like to write romance I'd like to see. Plus in general people like to see themselves represented in media, so now with it being more accepted to write openly gay stories, gay writers are doing exactly that and they're including alot of gay relationships because that's the type of content they like to see. Not saying the type of forced sexuality and pandering to gay audiences by corporations you talk about doesn't happen, it absolutely does, I hate it when it does, but also I feel like you're just a bit too cynical and broad in your applications of saying "most stories where you see this" when I can tell you as a gay person who likes to write who knows other gay people who like to write, we just like writing gay characters because we like seeing them, especially because of how hard it was in the past to write openly gay stories without it being censored by publishers or editors, lots of writers are essentially trying to make up for lost time and write the stories they always wanted but didn't used to be able to. Also in general I hate the implication that there's a huge wave of people pretending to be LGBT because while again it does happen, if LGBT people make up like 10% of the population or whatever number it is, the people who pretend to be gay make up like 0.1% and I don't see a purpose in really calling it out or making a big deal about it especially when there are still so many LGBTQ people in the closet and I know the numbers are still being under reported just from my own life experience.

There are a few types who gave this show 1-star reviews. 1) Trolls. Maybe loved the show...maybe didn't even watch it. They just wanted to leave a shit review because they get off on the tumult it can generate. 2) Someone who is, for any variety of (likely valid) reasons, angry and spiteful towards Riot Games (and probably rightly so...because Riot fucking sucks and they're criminal assholes who make shit games and kill good games by other studios). It doesn't occur to those leaving the reviews that Fortiche aren't explicitly owned by Riot, but by this point Riot is almost the only company they can do any work for because they've already done so much. One might call them "typecast" by now. And because of Riot's bad reputation, many probably don't want to work with an animation studio so closely tied with them. 3) Someone who is just cognitively disabled in one or more ways. They just happen to lack the perceptual or cognitive capacity to actually get all the pieces and keep them together. Kind of like how some people prefer anime dubs because they can't read subtitles quickly or unobtrusively enough (for the record, I personally have no preference most of the time and will gladly watch subs or dubs, but being UNABLE to keep up with subs is very much a defect).

Man, these reviews are funnier than I thought. I don't really get why people try so hard to bash this series. The only thing that comes out is nonconstructive critisism... Of course, there are some issues like the relationship between Viktor and Sky. We didn't see much of it and for me the scene with hexcore seemed... out of the blue? At least everyone agrees that the animation is phenomenal. Also, I love your videos. We all can see the effort. :)

The Viktor and sky thing Is ment to be that way. Clearly she liked him BUUTTT UM THERE WAS nothing. Viktor had no interest and it would a waste of time to watch sky trying to talk to Viktor and Viktor giving the cold shoulder. I wouldn't like that and the writers knew most wouldn't like that. It's not like Jayce and Mel.

Actually, we have a lot of information about them. Sky is known by Victor since childhood. She is intrested in science, but, not as much as Victor. Since, Sky is from the Undercity, she had little chance to get education, but Victor dud it to Piltover Academy, and later to the Hextech Project. Then, Victor insisted to hire Sky as their assistant, also providing her a place at the Academy. Basically, he is her benefector, mentor. Sky and Victor are interested in each other, but Victor is dying, he knows it for a while, so there is no point to start dating Ms Young, when this relatiins are doomed, it will only be more painful to Sky.

Zero starts from me because it has completely f..ed with my head. I'm overanalyzing each scene, feeling angry over Jinx being taken in by Slico and getting influenced so much that she is torn, feeling depressed for Vi that all she does is try to protect her sister, yet Jinx cannot understand and come back to her. I'm completely coming mad waiting for the next season. Like, what show has the right to do that to my head and emotions?
@tithannisk74704 ай бұрын
The "it's too predictable" argument is probably the less convincing of all because it's so easy to lie about it. You can watch pretty much anything till the end and then, after the fact, claim that you "had seen it all coming". But you're right, the worst is when the reviewer uses the world "woke".... It is indeed just an excuse to be a dick. To finish, I loved Arcane, but I have one small criticism. The show in season 1 relied too much on explosions that do as much damage as they need to. Who is injured or killed or what is destroyed by an explosion of some sort is often not very logical and not very consistent from one explosion to the other. I could elaborate more on that, but I'd need to rewatch the show to make sure I remember correctly, and I would have to spoil which I don't want to do.

Spoiler: Ekko and Jinx’s fight. I understand that they did not want to include gore, but I for the life of me cannot understand how Jinx has all of her limbs in tact, when Ekko, who was not as close to the bomb as she was, had a serious injury afterwards.

I have been incredibly disappointed in the Wokeness of a LOT entertainment coming out lately, but Arcane was a great example of adding a message into a show without the show becoming about the message. For me, Cait and Vi's relationship felt exceptionally natural; I did not consider it forced or too fast. I realize there was a lot of time compression going on. I felt this show was firing on all cylinders. My greatest hope is that they can keep the quality up and that they be allowed to shift focus to somewhere else once this current story reaches a natural conclusion.

@edwardsummey88439 ай бұрын
@@akisatsuki8444 I think the portrayal of the development of their relationship suffers from time compression. The show makes it look like it was just a few hours to a couple days. There was a hint in Jayce’s speech at the council (when Vi and Cayt were there) that they “have been talking about talking for weeks.” Not everything was on screen, but they had a couple of weeks in close quarters, and got to see a lot of each others character. I think it was perfectly appropriate.

People refer to themselves as woke because the term came from the saying “Stay woke”. It means stay vigilant, stay aware, stay educated. Misogynists and homophobes coined the term to use in place of “snowflake” to describe anything that goes against their nuclear family. A dog whistle.
