@palladium6075 жыл бұрын
Girl SAME! The crazy part is, I've been seeing the same stylist for about 8 years and she has curly hair too yet she still doesn't ever get my cut right and don't even get me started on when she tried to style of curly before I leave after a cut/color. Oh lawwwd. But....she's hands down the best with color I've ever found so I always end up going back to her. The cuts aren't awful they just aren't what i feel I need. Unfortunately no other stylists I've tried, and there have been many, have been able to do any better. Curly girl struggles!

Reason #11: health issues causing weak hair like thyroid, low iron, etc. I can speak from personal experience that this is a huge factor, though one that has solutions too. I only mention this because it can be so discouraging for women who truly do everything they can take care of their hair and still get breakage.

Cland! My journey is similar to yours, although I am still struggling with my hair regimen to achieve curls I enjoy. I get nice spiral clumps but FRIZZ. I’m 47 but I am about 30% gray - no longer covering my “silver.” I have noticed that the grays are wirey and strange, don’t play well with the other hair. Mel, do you have a family member of friend with curly hair that contains some silver so you could give some tips about how to work with that kind of hair? LOVE your channel.

This is hilarious and completely coincidental. I've watching hair videos for the past hour and I literally watched a video before yours by a professional that highly discouraged detangling the hair while wet as it is in it's most fragile state. You suggest that it be done wet because it will reduce breakage. I love the way your hair looks... so I will continue detangling on wet conditioned hair. Also another common reason ur getting breakage and excessive shedding.... UR NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER. U can moisturise ur hair as much as u want by conditioning and adding products and quitting sulfates but ur diet and what u feed ur hair from the inside matters just as much. Ur simple solution might just be drinking 2 litres of water per day. Give it a month and I promise u will see a difference ❤️

What does it mean if you tried the elasticity test and passed, but your hair always looks dry, dull, and frizzy? Does this mean you don’t have enough protein?
@megangagnier8456 жыл бұрын
Omg well I guess I’m triple screwed. I’ve been natural for almost 6 years and haven’t straightened my hair once since. I deep condition weekly on wash day and NEVER use sulfates parabens or silicones. I try to only use the most natural and moisturizing products I can find yet my hair still seems to be very temperamental. I’ve helped many curly peeps giving advice from my own aquired knowledge over the years but still struggle with my own (some days). My hair is naturally very fine and very dry (white mom+ creole dad) I may have to start finger coiling because (most days) I use my spray bottle to saturate my strands, add more product, finger detangle and air dry. So I’m sure that itself causes breakage. I also have a confession...........I HATE single strand knots and I’ve been better about it lately but when I don’t have my handy shears with me, I will pull out the strand from the follicle. SOOO BAD! 😕 lol I know I should just be dusting right above the knot AND I wear my bag on my shoulder but always make sure I lift my hair first. Lmao I think since I watched this I’m lot going to anymore regardless. 🤦🏽♀️😂
@ManesByMell6 жыл бұрын
Hey Megan thanks for the comment! Any damage you've done sounds like it can be undone so no fear! Everyone has wonky hair days sometimes! Having a balance of protein and moisture, two things our hair needs, is key. You should finger coil it really helps with definition, I never have to refresh! I just sleep with my bonnet/scarf and I'm good. I hope this helps, thank you for watching xoxo

Also think about when you sit. I have hair down to my mid-thigh, so I alway have to keep in mind what can happen to my hair when sitting (especially on the toilet, lol). But really, you should alway be aware of the surfaces your hair comes in contact with, and the majority of fabrics used on furniture are the worse, most grab at your hair.

But it also means waiting for those breakage pieces to grow back..so right now it looks like surface/crown frizz I can't control

I love how informative your videos are! I'm a new subscriber due to that! I have a question I can't find the answer to, and it ties in with this video. How do I know what "too much" protein is? I've read in some sites to avoid it except for the occasional protein treatment, yet since I've started reading labels on all my hair products, a LOT of my stuff has some sort of protein in it somewhere, especially shampoo, conditioners, and co-washes. Is it ok to use these daily, assuming they aren't geared toward "reconstruction" or considered to be for those in need of protein? Or do I need to avoid these as much as possible? And (sorry), but as a follow up to all that, IF I need to try to avoid, then what quality protein free products would you recommend, especially for conditioners??

1. Very dry and brittle •moisturize it 2. Over processed •buy professional salon products to care for your hair at home 3. Too much protein •use it according to your hairs needs (immediately after coloring and processing) 4. Super tight ponytails •use it less often, use a less damaging hair tie 5. Super tight braids on wet hair •use a leave in conditioner and super moisturized and blow dry it before braiding 6. Putting handbag strap on your shoulder which pulls on your hair •move your hair so your hair isn’t caught on your bag 7. Detangling hair when it’s dry •use a detailing spray/ detangle it damp AND start from your ends and work your way up to the root 8. Sleep on a cotton pillowcase •sleep on silk/satin pillowcase 9. Playing with your split ends/ single strand knots and ripping them out •get it them professionally cut OR don’t mess with them 10. Genes cause naturally thin hair •tender love and care
