Another tip I would recommend to anyone reading this, is to try and reward yourself after a cleaning task. Big or small. It helps you associate cleaning with positive things instead of negative things.

I've gotten to the point in the past where I was embarrassed to even have anyone over, because of the way my house has been filthy! I hated cleaning because 1. I didn't know how to do it. My mom was the type who preferred to do it all herself. 2. I was lost regarding when to do everything. Meaning do I do kitchen first or bathroom or should I do the laundry first or maybe I should sweep so I would freeze up and do nothing! It was crazy but with the help of cleaning vlogs like yours🥰💛💛, I finally figured out it ALL doesn't have to be done everyday...well except for kitchen and daily pick up of course. But for example, I now do laundry on Thursdays instead of every other day and having it keep piling up. Everything having to do with laundry(including folding and putting away) happens on Thursday. Bathrooms light clean everyday and deep clean Sat and Wed. and so on and so forth. It sounds like a lot but what to take me hours now takes 30 minutes per day more or less...except for laundry day of course. So thank you for all your cleaning vlogs! *Hugs*🥰🥰🥰

As I've gotten older, I've realized that a lot of the reason I hate cleaning is that my family has way too much stuff. I once timed how long it took to sweep the floor vs how long it took to get everything off the floor to be able to sweep it. We have chairs and stools and sometimes leftover groceries that haven't been put away yet and a box or two that has nowhere else to go. Easily doubles the time it takes (or triples, if you count putting it all back, which I don't because by then I usually have given up on the task and leave it for someone else to do). Plus I don't get a big sense of accomplishment upon finishing because as soon as it's done the surface is immediately covered over with stuff again so you can hardly tell it was cleaned off a few minutes ago.

I used to love cleaning until I became disabled. Then it became a painful chore. My spouse has taken up some of the slack, which was hard to let go. I hate cleaning because I had so many cleaning chores growing up that I actively choose “no, don’t wanna”. I love your common sense approach. Your book is the best adulting purchase I’ve ever made. I used your microwave cleaning solution and it went from teeny murder scene to spotless is less than 5 minutes! I watched your mouldy window cleaning video and followed your instructions…and they are no longer gross. Seeing great results sets different expectations and it changes the way I see chores I used to loathe. I have one problem though…your microfibre cloths are so fluffy and perfect - I don’t want to get them dirty 🥴

I clean for seniors who may have certain disabilities that make it difficult for them accomplish.

My mother would wake me up very early every Saturday morning, slamming doors, etc. and say: Get up we have to clean the house now. So, not fun. Also, like you, we didn't have the proper tools or know what products did what. Mostly, soap/water, and scrub. Glad I found your channel, it has helped. Everyone always says I have a clean house (that's mostly because I don't have clutter) but the heavy lifting stuff is still a challenge. Cleaning in my childhood was a 4 hour hour team clean with my brothers and sisters. It was a bummer to wake up after a school week and have the biggest plans be cleaning. Though my Mother to excellent care of us and our home, with 9 children in a 3 bedroom home, there was only so much one could do to have a “place for every thing.” I never had my own space to clean because we had shared rooms and beds. I’m the only one I know that loved college accommodations with a roommate. Even though it was a half a room, it WAS my own space!😃

I hated cleaning until I found your channel about 6 years ago. I hated it because I didn't know what to do. Turns out I have PTSD, ADHD and have moved 33-35 times in my 36 years. I spotted caring because I couldn't make a house work for me. Who can afford to set up a particular space to work for them when you're going to have to move again. I'm finally still. Hopefully never moving again. Small house with my 3 kids and we've gotten rid of sooo much stuff, and I'm ALL in for container porn and labels- everyone's got their thing! But I've paid for it by selling stuff. I've got matching labelled spray bottles and use your DIY recipes. I still hate vacuuming and mopping. I've got systematic arthritis. I'm 100% better than I was 3, 5 and 10 years ago at keeping house. You're approach helps me so much to not feel guilty when sometimes I just can't get it done. Having a list of MIA's for an ADHD, autistic mum of 3 little ones is just gold. I forget what I'm doing constantly. You've helped me immensely. I found your videos looking up how to clean to grout 4 houses and 5 years ago.

I’d like to add, she had mentioned starting with the task you like the least to get it out of the way. I used to clean like that and there are days that is a great method. Since getting pregnant and losing energy and motivation it helps me get momentum if I start with the fastest easiest task and slowly move to the harder ones. I get rewarded with more tasks getting checked off faster and find it easier to tackle the harder ones once I’m moving. That might help some people, especially if you like getting things clean but have a hard time with motivation to start. Without feeling like I have the energy to tackle the list I’m ready to quit after the hard task. If that’s you try starting with the easiest or the one that makes you the most happy seeing done, then move on to something else that can be done fast and easy keep that trend until you want to take down that bigger task.
@kittyandrews272 жыл бұрын
I also hated cleaning because I didn’t know what I was doing. Both of my parents had no idea, mom had maids and dad had June Cleaver for a mom so I don’t think either touched a mop until college. 😅 I moved in with my boyfriend’s family in college and his mom taught me so much! Now the main reason is just because I am disabled and it takes so much energy! Particularly if you have a couple of bad days and fall behind, the further behind you get the harder it is to come back from it. The roomba was one of the greatest purchases of my life. 😂💕

For me, I have to tell myself "No computer time until I get my chores done". Surfing the web in my retirement is a big black hole! lol! I'll give myself 3 or 4 chores a day that have to be done because I can't stand it anymore and get those done. If I allow myself to get lost on the computer first, the day is gone. It's all about focusing on the priorities. Get the chores done and then I can play.

Great video, realistic, honest & solid advice. I hate cleaning because outside of that moment when everything is nice and clean, it doesn't stay that way. I also love pets and they come with their own level of mess, and I just got to where it really didn't bother me all that much. I mostly clean for society measures so it's the whirlwind when someone is coming over. I try to not be cluttered, but until I see it engraved on a headstone,' masterful cleaner', I can usually find something I'd rather do. I"m working on it, as you say, owning where I am on the continuum.
@NotCarolynFFS2 жыл бұрын
I think there are a couple of reasons why I hate cleaning - first, I was never really taught. I'm also on the autism spectrum and I tend to get really overwhelmed really easily, especially when getting started - it's like I look at a mess and it just makes me so anxious and I don't know where to begin so I shut down and instead just avoid that room. I also relate to feeling like it's never-ending, something could always be cleaner and some things, as soon as you finish cleaning them they're dirty again. Combine that with my issues of getting overwhelmed easily and not knowing where to begin, and it makes a perfect storm of cleaning-hatred.

This is why I grew up “hating to clean”. Before we could do anything else in the day we had chores to do which was cleaning. I couldn’t go out with my friends until I cleaned certain things. My Mother had a hutch in the kitchen that she collected salt and pepper shakers on, well you can probably guess what my job was but she also helped was to take them all off the shelves and dust them each and every one of them dust the shelves then put them back on the shelf. I love my Mother so very much I don’t think she ever knew how much I hated that job. After she passed away my sister and I wrapped them all up and divided them up. She has a box and so do I. Mine are still in the box stored away. They have never been taken out of the box since we packed them up. I can’t give them away or get rid if them. That has been over 30 years ago. Sorry for such a long story but I still hate to clean even today and especially to dust! But I do love to knit🧶❣️Lol!

My favorite cleaning hack is getting rid of the clutter. Can’t clean clutter…..ever. My cleaning switch got flipped as a young married who had to hide dirty dishes in the oven because I didn’t have time to clean up my filthy kitchen’s flat surfaces AND do the dishes. I swore I’d never be ashamed of how my house looked ever again. FlyLady routines and schedules taught me how to keep a clean house. Now, I spend only 15 minutes a week cleaning.

Growing up as a hoarder family, I hated cleaning. I still carry some habits that don’t let me continue. I always realize I have to declutter, or I’ll save my recycling too long. I love cleaning but struggle with back pain so you would never know I love to clean. I have to budget my physical energy and my schedule. I try to vacuum daily BC of pets and long hair, if I do it daily it only takes about 5 mins. If I have a flare up and can't do it for several days then it takes much longer when I can do it and I end up being hesitant in fear that I'll trigger the pain again. Doing something as basic as mopping the floor can make me require pain meds, which in turn make me tired and then I don't get much else done. In sure many who watch understand this cycle! Some days I'm immediately emptying the dishwasher and starting to load as we go and other days the act of rinsing and placing each dish in the dishwasher after a meal is just too much twisting. I've done dishes by hand just to avoid the slight bend and twist the dishwasher requires. 😬 So, I guess I can mentally scare myself out of doing things BC of potential physical pain and/or I can't do the things BC of pain 😭
@simplymarisa82 жыл бұрын
This is a huge part for me as well. Then it got to the point I was using it as an excuse even when I had flares that weren't as bad. I try to do what I can when I'm physically not really able to. Sometimes it's just sitting on the couch paper shredding or organizing papers lol
@MarisaAndChew2 жыл бұрын
@@simplymarisa8 I wish I could be up and doing the things consistently. I try and do things in little bites. Example, I just scrubbed the birds cage after having a coffee, now I'm stretching out and resting a bit at the same time. Someone who doesn't get the pain may have continued with scrubbing the wall or vacuuming but those are things I'll work at later. I used to think it was all or nothing so a whole lot of nothing was done! I'm def getting better with budgeting time and body. I've learned it's ok to just vacuum the area rug and then do other spaces later. I wish I could go back to zone cleaning or a room per day type thing but ultimately, my physical health is in charge of my cleaning routine. Partly done is better than not done at all! 💞

It's a love/hate relationship for me. I love the feeling of accomplishment, pride in my home, and serenity that comes the clean space, but I hate how it takes a fraction of the time it took to clean the space for someone to mess it up again. And most of the time, the amount of effort it took to clean is not recognized or respected. But it still needs to be done.

Like carelessly walking on a mopped, still wet floor, cutting bread on a wiped surface leaving crumbs, my daughter's long black hair in the bathroom sink I had just cleaned etc etc.

Now that’s the way I feel. I clean and no one seems to care. They walk in with their shoes onto my hardwood floors which makes me so angry. I’ve pretty much do the basics now cause it’s a waste of time for me but I cannot or will not put up with clutter it just makes my anxiety out the roof.

I'm living with chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases. When I moved in to this tiny apt, I was so sick, I didn't unpack, just dropped the boxes and slept. It's been a few years and my apt is a disaster. It looks like a storage unit that someone lives in, stuff is everywhere and I don't know where to start and struggle to even find the energy.. but I can't live like this any longer. I think it's making me sicker because I'm constantly mentally and emotionally stressed out from it. I've been sick for 2 weeks now and think I may need to go to the hospital but I'm too ashamed to have anyone in to feed my cat and bunny so I'm dealing with it at home myself. This isn't cool. I can't afford to pay for help so I have to do it myself.. where do I start? I keep telling myself I can't do this, but also that I HAVE to do this. Maybe I just need some moral support.

Hi! I've got an autoimmune disease myself. Writing this from my couch( thank god for KZbin, hey ?) I understand where you're at. I am so fatigued that at times, I need to "gear up" just to get in the shower. I do the bare minimum. My house is mostly clean, somehow. I clean as I go along. I never set aside time just for cleaning. If I notice something getting dirty I clean it then and there on the spot. I also make sure everything has a home, a place where it belongs. Also what helps is, "keep like with like. " Spend just a little time working towards your goal ; you'll eventually get there !!!

Do not be ashamed. Open up to a close family member or friend who can take care of your kitty, ask them to help you sort through things, little by little. Bonding time too!

Does your book cover how often to do certain tasks? Or maybe I need to take a look at your videos more. I think I hate cleaning because I need a “perfect” schedule to keep on top of things and I’m not there yet. But it needs to be a realistic schedule too.

Thank you for this video! I hate cleaning floors because I never really learned how to do it. My dad cleaned the floors while my mom, my sisters and I were away, so I never really saw floors swept or mopped when I was growing up. (I did learn how to vacuum because my grandmother had carpets and she let me use the vacuum cleaner.) I'm going to find videos on sweeping and mopping. I hate dusting because it's a lost cause. As I wipe the furniture, I can see the dust immediately resettling on the surface. Can you vacuum the air?

Have you tried Swiffer dusters or even just a damp cloth?

Take shoes off at the door and an air purifier will help with the dust.

My mom was super critical. I'd clean and her reaction would be, "oh that's really good, but you missed this and this and this and this and this..." so I just decided I wasn't good at it and I never would be so why bother. I wish I had a clean house and when I do clean I don't actually hate it but I hate the lead up to it. I get anxiety about the clutter and junk that I don't know what to do with and I get frustrated with the pet hair and dust. Thanks for the tips.

I hate cleaning because it’s so hard to get rid of cat hair we have two cats that shed all year I’m asthmatic and if I do a spring well a monthly clean I always seem more wheezy after cleaning than before it’s weird do you have a air scrubber thing? Do they help with the cat hair and dander thrown up when you are cleaning? I completely agree live your life and enjoy it don’t make others feel bad if they don’t enjoy cleaning I do sometimes and feel accomplished so that’s one good thing ? Also which type of mop with the spray o. Do you recommend I like in the Uk soavjide please

I'm still sad that you hate cleaning and say it at the beginning of every video. Life is too short to do something you hate. I bet you have other talents that you don't hate :) Regardless, we're fans! I used to not love cleaning but now I appreciate the challenge and satisfaction of it. There's nothing like the results of cleaning. Even with housekeeping service, we need to clean daily. To me, it beats dieting any day!!
