Wish we knew the microban was not safe to use on food surfaces... I bought it because it was on sale and I figured its all the same... weve been cleaning our kitchen with it for weeks! So angry at myself for not even checking! THIS IS WHY I NEED these videos. They keep me invested in my cleaning supplies and excited, which leads to be actually researching them rather than buying what is on sale.

I watched a KZbin on dishwashers. They haven’t changed how they work in years. Don’t buy packs/pouches. Powder or liquid. Full reservoir and some outside of closed area for prewash. Run your hot water at your sink before starting. If your water takes a bit to get warm your prewash isn’t hot.

CARPET CLEANING - I had a home with a thick, petal pink carpet throughout. My carpet care person said when red wine was spilled on the carpet to saturate the area with rubbing alcohol, blot with a towel, leave the towel until all red wine was absorbed. Like you said with Folex, there is no sticky residue to sink into the underlying mat or to attract dirt. I've used rubbing alcohol to remove red wine from napkins, from clothes - we have a lot of dinner parties - and this method is so good, I wanted to share it.

The man that installed our dishwasher told me to never use any dishwasher detergent tabs that are wrapped in plastic. He said it is the reason for most of his calls for repair. So, I haven't used them at all in this dishwasher I have had for 14 years. I use liquid Finish concentrated gel. (lemon scent for me) You use half the dose, it has zero residue. It is so great!

I like Zote pink bar soap for removing greasy stains on clothing. Zote is made in Mexico. I live in San Diego, California, so we can easily find this product. I don't know how available it is elsewhere. It is available on Amazon. I always buy mine locally. But a bar lasts me for years! I just keep it on a shelf above my washing machine to work on any oily stains on my clothes. Also works well on the collars of shirts.

Same! I cleaned sneakers with it and compared to mr. Clean eraser. Zote def won. I use it often on my sons baseball uniform (he slides all the time!). I use the bar and was by hand; tiring but worth it! I found it in flakes in a box for laundry use but it didn’t work as good 😢. I do run out often. Feels clean, but I admit, not really sure what it’s made of 🤷‍♀️ 🤦🏽‍♀️

Whether it's all in my head or not I prefer to use the Finish dishwasher detergent that I buy at Home Depot because it comes in a cardboard box and it comes with a removable wrapper I don't have to melt in the dishwasher. The only thing I cannot live without is baking soda, I buy it in bulk and scrub everything from the interior of my dishwasher to the kitchen sink with that stuff, and Dawn liquid.
@sarabobara8458
@sarabobara8458 2 жыл бұрын
Youre not just in your head. I really believe the best option is liquid, and second to that is powder. BUT I think the BEST option wouldbe liquid detergent, with a little baking soda through in to act as an abrasive and get the food off! No melting required.

This summer we moved into a house that didn’t have a water softener, and the tub and fixtures had terrible build up of hard water deposits. After doing some research, I tried Kaboom foam-tastic spray cleaner. It worked like a charm! Now we have a water softener, so it should stay looking clean! 😉 I like Cascade for the dishwasher too! Nothing else comes even close.

I just love your advise it's really helped in my journey to find the best cleaners for my home. I love Bon Ami and try not to use anything else. There have been times I have used Barkeeper's Friend but it does have that acid in the cleanser makeup. For dishwasher detergents I use a product by the Grove Collaboration that I absolutely love. My washing machine has a light that comes on when it needs to be cleaned and I do love Affresh. Before I go I wanted to mention that I recently saw you on "The Doctors" you did a great job.

Here in the US, I have become a big fan of Krud Kutter products. They have a product for almost any cleaning situation, but my all-time favorite is the kitchen degreaser. It's AMAZING! I had some of that really sticky grease residue on the wallpaper in my kitchen, and had tried so many things with no luck. This product melted it away in seconds. So far, it's worked like a dream on everything I've cleaned with it. Plus, it's non-toxic, food-safe, earth friendly and has the Safer Choice label.

CLR does a good job on my glass shower doors without the brutal fumes of cleaning vinegar. Since hydrogen peroxide is no longer recommended for wound care, I consider it a great, non-toxic disinfectant now. I put a spray top on my standard brown bottle of 3% H2O2 and pretreat shirts with BO smell by spraying the armpits with it before tossing in the washing machine. It annihilates the bacteria that cause the stank. I've never had any issues with colour loss or bleeding either; I just have to be careful not to inhale the spray because it can be a bit painful like when it gets on the skin for too long. I have no long-term effects from this rookie mistake from years ago like my mom has from cleaning with harsh chemicals like bleach and ammonia though. You can also pour a cup of hydrogen peroxide in the bleach dispenser as a safer alternative to bleach. A paste of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide can be used to scrub sinks (a little squirt of dish soap helps too - I use that trio on laundry stains too) and I was super impressed by how well it removed the orange bacteria around my tub and even from grout when scrubbed with a toothbrush. You saved a good one for the end, Melissa! Soaking my disgusting fabric shower curtain liner in OxyClean Versatile powder plus hot water was a miracle to behold! I use it for laundry stripping too... amazing stuff. As far as good brands, the grapefruit Method all-purpose cleaner is wonderful, I like that Attitude Living is now available in stores and I'm interested to try Better Life cleaners and personal care products.

Toilet cleaner. I have tried them all. My current favorite is Tide powder with bleach! Flush toilet so tide will stick. Sprinkle tide around top of bowl. About cup for the job does the trick. Tide dissolves minerals on ceramic sides. Put powder all over bowl. Let sit for 1/2 hour. Brush entire bowl as usual. Seriously the best cleaner yet. Bleach in the powder does a beautiful job at cleaning stains. I use this every cleaning. Love it.

I really like the TruEarth detergent and was glad to make the switch. Being disabled, it is too hard to bring down the heavy jugs of cleaning soap. Haulin’ the bin is hard enough. Plus, I can keep 6 to 1 year supply in almost no space and I’m not buying water. The absolute bonus is you get the loads you pay for because it’s already measured. No user error.

I too found the first benefit the TruEarrth switch was for my arthritic hands that cannot lug the heavy jugs around or push that difficult button soap dispensor. I've enjoyed the TruEarth for eco reasons as well, but find that adding a generous scoop of baking soda helps its cleaning power just a big more in my hard water area.

I use a 1/2 of cup of vinegar in every run of the dish washer. I use less expensive walmart brand dishwasher tabs. 1/2 the cost of cascade. The vinegar cleans all dishes to squeaky clean level and cleans and deodorizes the dishwasher. No mineral buildup either. We have very hard water from a well. So use vinegar in every load. it’s cheap and works wonders. I have a little cup that fits in the top rack and I fill it 1/2 full. The washer water splashes into the cup and the vinegar slowly get bounced out. Perfect!

Gidday Melissa. I discovered oxy bleach in 1990 as a nappy soaker. Since then I have always kept it and use it in many ways. I use it to presoak and sanitise clothing, dishcloths, tea towels, etc. I add some to my normal washing to boost performance. I use a mixture of oxy bleach and water to remove stains from carpets and mattresses. I use it in a bucket to clean up after my cat uses the litter box or bathroom floor. 😀❤️🇦🇺

For a while, I was a member at Melaleuca... I like their laundry materials, stain pretreat & detergent - there's four bottles: soap, color booster, scent booster, and softener... but it's expensive. They do have a whole line of cleaning supplies, mostly plant-based, eco-friendly, decreased packaging. You could check them out. (The "starter kit" with "one of everything" is like 200$, but they sell individually too.)

America's Test Kitchen found Oxiclean to be best at stain removal of anything as long as you gave it time to soak. I haven't used your enzyme cleaner for stains, but they found most enzyme cleaners were too focused on one or two and didn't really remove the stains on what happens in the ktichen. Thanks for this. We need to use something on our shower drain pretty often with hair, so we're going to give Green Gobbler a try!

My favorite store bought product is Method Wood for Good furniture polish. I have a lot of wood furniture, the standard 'lemon scent' products give me migraines. W4G works great and smells like almonds in a way that doesn't trigger my sensitivities.

Thank you Melissa. I have heard that detergents that come in packs isn’t so good for the appliances because the plastic doesn’t dissolve as easily. Any thoughts on that?

I use Rain X on my glass shower doors. That along with a squeegee keeps them looking great. I make my own washing powder. Far less residue. Did the laundry stripping.... gross. I keep a cleaning schedule on my calendar. It's easier to make frequent small tasks then big day long jobs. I just found this channel. I am hooked in a good way.

Try Drops, they make a plant-based laundry pod, and dishwasher pod. The product is shipped to your door, and they used recycled cardboard with minimal packaging. I have been using it for a few years, and it works really well. The laundry detergent even works with hard water.

I second the Puracy stain remover - GODSEND! Also love me some free and clear Oxiclean, Green Gobbler and the Affresh products you mentioned. Also a fan of the Method Grapefruit All Purpose Cleaner - works great, IMO, for many things including degreasing. I also love Magic Erasers. I also didn't know you have a 3 year old! You have me beat by a matter of months regarding my almost 32 month old daughter. I can relate to what you said about clothing, stains, etc. Would love to see any cleaning videos related to how to do one's cleaning best with the limited time we have to do so given a busy/active toddler in the house ;P

Not one mention about Simple Green. I love it, such a great all purpose cleaner and it’s non toxic. It’s also affordable versus some of these fancy cleaners she talks about.

I’ve read that simple green is actually toxic and there’s even a class action law suit against it. It’s sad that the company would misrepresent like that. :-(

I am almost done with my ERA laundry detergent, and then I will be using un-scented TRU Earth. You turned me onto investigating TRU Earth. I sent some to my sister and my sister-in-law. I would like to have a special gift giving. I like to add about a half cup of washing soda with any laundry detergent for sweaty clothes. It comes in a cardboard too. My new favorite dishwasher detergent is Dropps. It comes in a cardboard box. I will be using all of my remaining “Finish”. I am keeping the container under my sink. Use want you’ve got. 💙
