Een andere heel goed video. Gives good explanation of Dutch pronunciation. I think Scottish people could learn the Dutch language quicker than most as we naturally have the 'ch' sound in our talk .

Ja dat is inderdaad lastig voor iemand die niet met de taal opgegroeid is, maar het woord grooit moet eigenlijk groeit zijn. De oe wordt uitgesproken als de u in het Duits(German)

Considering someone who is "geschickt" in german is someone who is able to do something, in a sophisticated manner and someone who is "ungeschickt" lacks that skill, "ongeschicktheid" isn't that far off.

Everything you can do to enhance your skills. I am watching this channel and others, reading short stories and using apps. I need to do tutoring though more.

Als je de ui niet uit kunt spreken kun je die beter voor een uu vervangen dan door een au, wat veel mensen die Nederlands leren doen. De uu in plaats van een ui komt namelijk in dialecten voor. Dan is de kans op verwarring wat kleiner.

Zelf heb ik altijd problemen met de uitspraak van 'eu'-tweeklank woorden, zoals 'eeuwig' en 'leeuw'

In essentie is het een lange i met een w erachter, de zelfde i als in in en is, maar dan lang. Er zijn er veel mensen die het niet uit kunnen spreken. Mijn docente grieks hoorde het verschil met de ie niet. We moesten een of ander grieks woord vertalen wat eer betekent, maar ze zei éér, wat niet bestaat, en toen Ier, wat raar is in een Griekse mythe. Ze moest het eerst opschrijven voor ik het snapte.😅

die harde G spreken niet alle Nederlanders vooral in het zuiden en hier bij ons in België is hij veel zachter

I learned my limited Dutch in Limburg. So when I traveled in other places in the Netherlands, I learned that Limburgese wasn’t highly esteemed.

Exactly. There's no need at all to use a very harsh G. Most people in NL don't even use the imo extremely harsh G of the hostess, but use a more subtle version. Like the German G, or the Flemish G, which are very soft. I suspect the harsh (imo ugly) G is mostly and maybe even only used in the bigger cities in the West, the Randstad.

The way she pronounced 'gezellig', I've never heard anyone exaggerate the G sound like she does.

'Buur' is the Dutch word for neighbour, and 'buurvrouw' is, more specifically, a female neighbour, and 'buurman' is a male neighbour. I'm still trying to work out why a 'buitenbeentje' is an outsider, as 'been' is a leg

I kinda struggled with that one too, as the literal translation appears to be something like "outside [little] leg".

The meaning has changed over the years, so you can no longer translate it literally.

low german has "buten" and means as much as "outside" (in the physical, location-based sense) "beentje" is a diminutive of "been", which means as much as "leg" and might be cognate to english "bone" (in german "bein" is "leg" but also "bone", and in that form part of the name of many bones. For example the clavicle is "Schlüsselbein", literally "key bone") So a "buitenbeentje" might be someone who walked in from outside.
