Honestly I was wondering at the time why this never happened. In hindsight, it just wasn't the superfight area. Champ vs champ was not as common back then. Fighters actually defended their belt, didn't just call out the next weight class as soon as they won the first belt.

UFC not signing Fedor was ultimately good for them. If he would've signed back then, he absolutely would've beaten the brakes off Lesnar who was HUGE in turning them mainstream and popular. Every kid that watched WWE back then learned about MMA and UFC because of him and became fans. That's how I found this sport at like 9 years old.

Cro Cop at least asked for 1 warm up fight. I don't recall if he had to fight Eddie and asked for another fight before the belt or asked for Eddie first and they made him fight Gonzaga. I forget what interview it was but Cro Cop Said it himself he wanted a warm up fight. I don't recall if he said he was offered a title shot but he specifically asked for a warm up fight.

My theory on Silva vs GSP. Both were in GOAT status. UFC could have been worried about losing draw appeal for whoever loses the fight. So they were waiting for them to be closer to the end of their careers to throw it together. That in itself has a risk of losing one to injury, retirement, or losing to another fighter anyways, so not really sound logic. Only thing I can think of outside of the fighters not getting enough for it though

They fumbled the bag by betraying the fans and the sport of MMA by selling their souls to go entirely corporate just in an attempt to be accepted by traditional sports that will never accept them as their equals. They should have remained gritty, authentic, and real. No Reebok deal destroying fighters' sponsorships and hundreds of other short-sighted greedy money plays. This could have been the cool 'outsider' mainstream sport.

5:45 Holm vs Rousey take is just objectively questionable at best. It made Nunes a star. They literally got their cake and ate it too. Amanda not only took out the champion, she took out Rhonda too. In your scenario, Holly would just beat Rhonda again and then Amanda would just beat Holly - giving Rhonda ZERO reason to Amanda… which is likely why they didn’t do it. She made more money ultimately than Ronda could at that point as the sport grew and a flag bearer was needed. You want your flag bearer be someone who can’t beat the divisions elite lol? She passed the torch and Amanda made them even more money solidifying her reign at the top.
