This is super helpful! Thanks, Kayla. I wanted to share one of my frugal tips. I buy a whole chicken, which is cheaper by the pound then cut up chicken and definitely cheaper than boneless. Then I roast it along with bulk root vegetables like carrots, onions, garlic, whatever you like. I save the trimmings from the vegetables to the side and when the chicken is done roasting, I cut the meat off. And the roasted vegetables will be two or three meals, depending on the size of your family. I don't throw the chicken carcass or vegetable scraps away, I put them in Ziploc bag in the freezer and when it's full, I drop it into the slow cooker water to cover, some peppercorns, leaf, and I let it cook on low at the longest setting on my slow cooker, which is 20 hours. I will often hit the button again when it's finished cooking to end up with 40 hours of cooking. What this does is it makes a really nutritious and thrifty broth that I can use for soup or gravy or anything else I'm making that week. I just love the idea of making something delicious out of scraps! Hope this is helpful. Thank you.

Thank you for this video! We’re a family of 6 (including very young children) and I thought we were the only ones feeding our family on a very small budget. Ours is almost the exact same as yours. I find this very encouraging! Thanks!!!

I did try using ground turkey and no one liked it. I agree with sticking with what the family will eat.

Plus, when you break it down into cost per calorie, ground turkey and ground beef are pretty much even.

What about the idea that organic is better? That alone can mess with your budget?
@SixMilesToSupper4 ай бұрын
One thing we have to question is whether or not organic actually is healthier. Harvard didn't find that. www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/should-you-go-organic#:~:text=While%20organic%20foods%20have%20fewer,advantage%20over%20their%20conventional%20counterparts Also, old farmers who used lots of pesticides and other -cides sure did live long lives. -J.R.

I was just waiting for "buy the store brand" - those of us with allergies are at a real disadvantage. I already make almost everything from scratch, but things like my safe cream, flour, and chicken broth are double what the cheaper brands are and its non-negotiable because I literally can't eat it. 😩
