Mike Oldfield is really amazing, right? The guy nailed it in so many styles and created iconic sounds. Which of his albums do you like the most?
@KNOPFLERSGOD2 ай бұрын
@BackingTrackCenter Well, Tubular Bells 1 and 2. Ommadawn, Incantations, Amarok, and Songs of Distant Earth are essential albums, but I like all of his work. His wonderful guitar playing is displayed on all of his albums, be it electric, acoustic, or classical guitar. He is equally adept at all of them. He also has a very unique finger picking style.

@@BackingTrackCenter Thanks. What do you think about eclectic technic of Anthony Phillips?
@BackingTrackCenter3 ай бұрын
He’s super eclectic, especially with his strong classical and folk music influences, which give a different flavor to progressive rock. I think he doesn’t get enough credit for being one of the founders of Genesis and for his early contribution to their sound. We'll put it in part 3 of this list. Thanks for your input!

It's very complicated to suggest... or indicate... Anyway, it's very difficult to make a list of the "best" type, especially when talking about Progressive Rock... First of all, it's necessary to define whether the band plays Progressive Rock, and then choose who is the best guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer, vocalist, composer...
@BackingTrackCenter3 ай бұрын
It really is very difficult. That's why we didn't rank this list, we just included the great guitarists who did formidable work within progressive rock. Thanks for commenting!
@Probus14933 ай бұрын
@@BackingTrackCenter But that's exactly what I mean, first you have to define whether the band is Progressive Rock. If the band isn't, then the guitarist, no matter how good he is, can't be included in a list of the "best guitarists in Progressive Rock". I would never include Frank Zapp in a list of Progressive Rock, just like many guitarists that you included as being a guitarist in a Progressive Rock band... That's why I said, first you have to define whether the band is really Progressive Rock.
@BackingTrackCenter3 ай бұрын
So then, we define that the bands that these guitarists were part of were all Progressive Rock.
@ianjones72665 күн бұрын
Agreed, I would love 'progressive' rock to be defined. Is it blues, jazz fusion, soul, funk? Does the inclusion of any of these definable genre eliminate a player? If so, almost no one plays pure 'progressive' rock. I think the label is pretty unhelpful. Maybe a blanket term, ' Electric music's be termed, but then does that eliminate players who produce acoustic music? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🎵👍✌
@Probus14935 күн бұрын
@@BackingTrackCenter That's what I said from the beginning, you interpret it according to your opinion, as if your opinion were above any questioning, as if your opinion were the truth. In Progressive Rock, you have your opinion, I contest it and I don't agree, many of the guitarists you put on the list are not from Progressive Rock bands. But you insist that they are, it's your opinion against mine, I think I'm right, you think the one who is right is you.

Are you going to have John Mclaughlin on part 3? Or, perhaps you're planning on a Great Jazz Fusion guitarists. Same for Marc Ribot or Bill Frisell.
@BackingTrackCenter3 ай бұрын
John McLaughlin is a legend for sure! He might show up in a list focused on jazz fusion, which would be the perfect spot for names like Marc Ribot and Bill Frisell too. I don't feel very comfortable putting them on a progrock list, but maybe I'll start to see it differently.😄 Thanks for the comment!

👍🎸 A good list of noteworthy axemen... but "What? No Eddy Van Halen?"... ...who once, when asked: "What's it like being a guitar god?", replied: "I don't know. Why don't you ask Bruce Cockburn?"
@BackingTrackCenter3 ай бұрын
The list focuses on progressive rock guitarists, so Eddie Van Halen, despite being a legend, doesn't fit exactly into that genre. His response about Bruce Cockburn is a testament to his humility and respect for fellow musicians. Thanks for bringing it up!
