Tip on the spices- next time you & a friend or two are at your market, pick up a brand you like (yes, even if it's a little more expensive) that comes in a glass container (you're paying for that little jar). Then, when you do go to Costco, split the cost of that big container, refill the little glass jars from it and toss it into the recycling. Why glass? Easier to clean, they clean more thoroughly and will last longer. Also with glass, it's easier to remove the previous label, if you so desire.
@hwk94686 жыл бұрын
They are, but it's a ine-time purchase, an investment in the jar. It will far outlast plastic & you can switch up what's in it, not so much with plastic, which retains the smell. My friends & I save on bulk spices by sharing the purchase & refilling those jars. Works for us.

To address your point about Costco rotisserie chicken.. "no whole cooked chicken should be priced at 4.99.." Costco actually sells these at a loss, about $40 million per year. They do this for the "wow" factor and a way to get you in the door. Every Costco is layer out differently but often times the rotisserie chickens are placed at the end of the main isle, attracting customers to go in that direction, walking past all the great products they're trying to promote. I don't work for Costco, I'm just a dedicated customer of theirs and after knowing this, I can't help but share haha

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn at least some of those ingredients listed are, in fact, injected into the meat itself. He is right about the Costco Applewood Smoked Bacon. It is the best. Not healthy, though. It's bacon. So if you're eating bacon you shouldn't worry about the brine (which is mostly just salt) in the chicken. And besides you can't make a chicken at home for $4.99. Price a whole chicken; you'll be paying at least $6 (and likely more) for a raw, unseasoned chicken.
@urusoimi6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the one thing you failed to mention is that the 4.99 chickens are pumped with water.....they are so small before they 'process' them. You are paying 4.99 for about 4 oz of chicken. Bacon IS a healthy protein if you cook it to crispy, and lop off all the fat with a paper towel. It's flaw is excess salt.
@gilbertoflores73976 жыл бұрын
The chicken isn't as bad as he make it out to be, Costco doesn't make a 5 dollar chicken. They actually lose money on each one, kind of like they give free samples; they price it so low, and give away products for a reason. They also never raise the price for things like their chicken or certain lunch menu items because they're known for their roasted chicken, and low prices, it makes people feel like keeping their membership longer because they get such a good deal on things like the chicken. Costco usually also buys the industry they sell products for, so they probably own the farms where the chickens come from and don't pump them full of chemicals. What they do when they lose money on products (like their chicken and some foodcourt items) is try and save a few cents on each item sold by controlling its entire distribution to minimize lose.
@GarthGoldberg6 жыл бұрын
@@urusoimi They're maybe 10% bigger because of the water. That represents maybe fifty cents of the cost. Compare with the ready-made chickens at your grocery or Walmart; they're about half the size of those at Costco and are also brined. We bought a Costco chicken a few weeks ago. It was so big it didn't even fit in the plastic container. Last night, we bought one from Walmart for the first time. It was good, but only about half the size of the Costco chicken.

The problem with using the Cornucopia Institute as a benchmark for if Kirkland/Costco eggs are good or bad is that their rating system is horribly flawed. The Institute rates them based on responses to surveys that were sent to the producers. Since Costco didn't respond, the Institute gave them all zeros. The Institute list was originally produced almost 10 years ago. They provide zero details on when they surveyed producers or when they resurveyed them, if ever. And assigning a zero to a non-respondent in a flawed methodology. I've seen greater scientific rigor in a 6th-grade science fair project. Love your channel and Instagram feed, but please investigate the "sources" you are using before citing them. And please stop telling people to not buy Kirkland/Costo eggs based on flawed and misleading information. Also, Kirkland eggs now carry the Certified Humane certification as well.

And? It tastes good. It's inexpensive and as healthy as any other rotisserie chicken.

They like them because you’re guaranteed to get a 3-5 pound chicken at 5$ that can only be allowed to stay in the merchandiser for a max of two hours. So they’re always fresh.

LOL. I go there strictly for the rotisserie chicken. But I've purchased a $2000 Yamaha electric piano earlier this year, and 4 btls of Skye Vodka ($64 - because it's $10 cheaper per btl than where I live in the summer) and I spent $36 on those prepared meals for quick easy meals last week. They suckered me in with that chicken, and picked my wallet empty.
@melissanoelle4106 жыл бұрын
FlavCity with Bobby Parrish I respectfully disagree. This is their thing. I do not believe their low cost chicken is pumped full of stuff. There is no claim to being organic, and they keep that chicken at the back of the store for a reason... More chances to shop! They are just setting us up to buy more. No effect on quality of chicken

As a single person who lives alone, most things at Costco would expire before I could get through it. His advice “just eat good and workout” is problematic. I could follow him perfectly but it won’t fix my congenital medical conditions. Some people just don’t absorb certain vitamins and nutrients regardless of what they eat. So multivitamins have a place. The gummies are not great because the supplements are sprayed on. A pill or chewable (non gummy) are a better choice. Anyway I use Costco mainly for non perishables.

Yes canola comes from the rape seed plant which was used for mustard seed gas in WW1 and WW2. Canola is short form for Canadian oil. It is a made up name. No such thing as a canola plant! Look up the Harvard Study called The Canola Report.

Canola oil is GMO. It's still cheaper to buy those big things of spices and waste them than 2 oz. of "regular" priced spices. The juices like the Pomm is not mostly water. Just because you're on keto doesn't mean to pass up good buys for folks who aren't keto. =p That olive oil is from a mixture from various countries.

ShariSez1 yes that’s correct, as stated , olive oil has a low - medium smoke point. For the most ethical eggs, look for pasture raised instead of cage free. Cage free only means they are stuffed to the brim inside of a barn, rather than a cage.

If this guy wants to pay for me to buy eggs from "happy chickens that play all day" I'd be thrilled to eat those, along with many other foods he says are better. But many of us mortals who would need to rob a bank to eat what he says is all we should eat. And as for those rotisserie chickens, I think they are a good enough treat when I need an easy meal that involves as little effort as humanly possible. FYI they brine their chickens & most ingredients he read off were from that. As you just soak a chicken in the brine, then put it on spit, little stays IN/ON the chicken. It is far healthier than most other things I would choose those nights, along w/being far more economical, and something I only buy now & again. (I have severe nerve damage & don't always have the luxury to stand & cook :(

I learned years ago that spices will deteriorate in heat. Parsley, dill and other green spices will turn brown and then are totally useless. I got tired of having to run to the store every time I needed a spice ingredient so I started storing my spices on the door in my refrigerator freezer. The advantages are (1) you can see what you have, (2) nothing ever goes bad, and (3) spices kept in the freezer are twice as potent so you only need HALF of what the recipe calls for. Yes, it works every time. And when spring rolls around I buy fresh dill, parsley, scallions, rosemary, etc. dry them, roll them between wax paper with a rolling pin, put them in glass or plastic jars in the freezer and save a ton of money on really inexpensive spices that are overpriced in the grocery store. And you never have to run out. What could be more convenient and frugal?

Helium Valentine sometimes these video hosts will embellish or make up something, or mislead by omission just to get their audience emotionally involved. As another another poster noted that chicken still has hormones added, I will say I honestly don’t know (even though it’s not been allowed for a long time....perhaps our food industry needs some major auditing). I just get the feeling that our healthy eating habits aren’t his main concern, but getting us emotionally involved is more his priority. Of course his comments on what’s good or bad for us maybe true, but I find he’s somewhat manipulating when he injects opinions on supposed facts without backing up with proof. And to be clear this is my reflection only on this video. What he does well is get us curious enough to research food ourselves and learn more about nutrition. (If you can find it, the food industry is huge, politically involved, and has secrets....and I’m not a person who mistrusts easily and doesn’t usually believe in conspiracies)
