Dragon Ball is one of the most popular anime series of all time and it’s not hard to see why. The show not only has some of the greatest fight scenes ever animated but it also has a rich lore that spans decades. The history of Dragon Ball includes ancient demons, galactic space battles, post apocalyptic wastelands and more than a few tournaments. The history is usually revealed to us as it is to characters like Goku. While that works well for the story, it can provide some confusion about Dragon Ball’s timeline.
The show usually focuses more on the conflicts of the present than it does on the conflicts of the far past. This can leave us with a lot of questions about Dragon Ball’s ancient history. For example, this is a world with futuristic tech and dinosaurs at the same time. How can you compare a timeline like that to one like our’s?
That’s not even mentioning the alternate timelines. As Dragon Ball Z’s Future Trunks proved, time travel can create completely separate timelines that don’t necessarily adhere to logic. Then there are the non-canonical stories that may be interesting on their own but don’t fit in well with the pre-established history. These videogames and spin-offs take us to different futures that some might consider to be valid timelines in the Dragon Ball continuity.

Dragon Ball has gone on for a while and adapted its story along the way leaving the timeline a bit confusing after Future Trunk's appearance through DBZ

There's a couple of differences between the magical elements of the Dragon Ball universe and the ever-present Ki. Magic does exist within the Dragon Ball universe, although it's not as prevalent as one would expect.There have been people shown from almost every core race in the franchise to be capable of utilizing magical powers, there are only certain people who actually use those powers. Magic in Dragon Ball has always appeared more varied. It doesn't seem to possess the same limits as Ki, as true magic is rarely seen to have as much of a physical effect on the user as Ki can.But Magic has been shown being countered by people with large amounts of Ki. Certain characters from the various races that inhabit the Dragon Ball universe are all shown using magical abilities like Namakeians, Babidi, Majin Buu, Angels, Kais and the Gods of Destruction. Demons such as Dabura or Towa have access to dark magic abilities and Some humans are shown be trained in magical abilities, such as Fortuneteller Baba,other Earthly beings such as Puar and Oolong are also capable of limited magical abilities, such as shape-shifting.

In the earlier episodes of DBS Vegeta has a flashback of when Beerus visited planet Vegeta and bet up his dad while he was hiding behind a boulder but in DBS Broly it showed us planet Vegeta was Destroyed while he was still in his life pod

i recently started watching it thru again. theres a scene where krillin and goka talk about being 12 and 13 .. or 11 and 12, anyway, goku trains with korin then mr popo and kami a bit after then on his own for 3 and a half years (until next WMAT) so that makes him 16/17 at the most. unless i missed something. then i thought goku be in his early 20's at start of Z. considering gohans age.

I think maybe the '5 minutes' represent the Namek planet's 5 minutes , because the Namek planet had only day ,also namekians are plant type that's because they needs lots of sunlight, maybe the planet had slow rotation ,so the time is slow compare to the earth , so that's makes sense....

Bardock’s flashback in DBZ is more canon than the reinvented version in DBS: Broly. Though Gine, the mother of Goku, was my highlight of this new version. Yet many fans are hoping for our hero would one day meet his Saiyan parents in future arcs. And I am hoping for that too!

@@idkman5145 in the original story, frieza hadn't ordered all saiyans to go back, instead any saiyans that were off planet, like Bardock's crew, he sent fighters after them. Except raditz, vegeta and nappa (raditz and vegeta were together in 1 planet and nappa in another). Then, hours after, blew up the planet. Bardock wasn't fighting his warriors in space, more like at the edge of the atmosphere (also saiyans back then could stay in space for a while, definitely not survive in there tho, which is why goku was so worried about not finding a spaceship). Toriyama had made that story canon, before creating dragonball minus and broly.

The end of Z (Goku flying off with Uub to train him) is 10 years after the death of Kid Buu. Then DBGT starts 5 years later when Goku comes home from training/living with Uub.

3) talking about Future Trunks time traveling “which got more confusing when he kept going back and forth to the main timeline...wouldn’t that continue making new timelines?...and when he came back again In DBS, wouldn’t there be another timeline again?” No, once he went to the past and made the new timeline, he’s able to travel between the two as much as he wants, so there wouldn’t be a new time line every time. But if he went to the past at an earlier point than his original trip, then a new time line would split. For example, when cell killed one of the Future Trunks’ and stole his time machine, he came back a year prior to Trunks’ arrival which created another time line.

It's still works for the Tournament of Power for the perspective of the fighters. You also have to factor in that the perspective changes, when another character who isn't fighting talks, not to mention the time inbetween episodes, or the times where they're just talking, which would occur in normal time.

It really depends on how you argue the time chamber. It was stated at one point that you could only spend 2 years inside the chamber before being trapped. Later Toriyama forgot about that and characters spent longer times in there. Goku only spent a small amount of time in there before taking Gohan.

A very simple explanation for Frieza's 5 minute warning that nobody else seems to have thought of is that a minute of time means something else to him than the 60 seconds that we have on Earth. Frieza isn't from Earth, so 5 minutes for him might be 30 minutes for us. Same name, different measurement of time.

Because the generally accepted law of time travel is that if you change something in the past then the future (or present) you know will cease to exist in some way. There are 4 timelines in total in Z. We have the ORIGINAL where goku killed frieza not trunks. Then Goku died, Z-fighters died, Eventualy Trunks grew up went back in time, this makes UNSEEN timeline. Trunks kills Frieza, Goku and rest lives, They find Gero's lab, Bulma makes remote to shut down androids, Trunks not Krillin uses it (no cell). They kill androids, Trunks goes back to ORIGINAL timeline, kills androids with remote. A few years later Cell shows up, kills Trunks. Steals timemachine and makes SEEN timeline. Cell arrives a year before Trunks from ORIGINAL would. Trunks kills Frieza, Goku lives, all the same till Bulma, Gohan, Trunks find cells timemachine, Remote ends up with Krillin because Trunks is after cell. Androids live, cell absorbs them. By this Trunks does Not return with the Remote. This make a new FUTURE timeline. In SEEN Gohan kills Cell and Trunks eventualy returns to FUTURE timeline and kills androids and Cell by force.

2) “I bet the DB historians will consider every year before 749 to be pretty peaceful in comparison before Goku existed” ACTUALLY if you watched the DB anime/read the manga, you’d know that it wasn’t peaceful when Demon King Piccolo killed a bunch of people during his initial reign of terror. which ended when Master Mutaito (Roshi’s master) used the Mafuba/Evil Containment Wave to seal him away for many years.
