Calling the Ken Shamrock-Royce Gracie fight at UFC V a stalemate is misunderstanding what happened. If that fight were to be allowed to continue OR if they had judging Ken would have won that fight and I think most people agree with that. But I think most people also agree it was entirely because of his size and putting all his weight on the smaller Gracie for 30+ minutes (a great strategy for the rule set in place as he thought it was {in their first match there was no time limit}) and had they been the same size the fight would have looked very different.

Nick Reber Even if you don’t like her personally, you can’t deny Rhonda’s utter domination of her division during her reign. Up to the Holly fight, she dominated fights just as easily as Khabib has been doing. It was just her head getting to big, after being that dominating for that long, and she started to believe her own hype about her standup game, especially against a world champ Kickboxer. Rhonda will easily be in the HoF, she made Women’s UFC divisions profitable, and without her wins, and losses, there would be no Cyborg or Nunes now.

if it isn't widely known anymore by younger generations, as with many things long forgotten, it is a shame. Playboy was never meant to be "just a 'nudey' magazine." A simple online search of its history would have shown the incredible list of contributing authors over decades.

Big John eventually became a great ref, but you couldn't tell by his first two UFC events (2 & 3) that he knew anything at all about jiu jitsu. There were guys choked out for over half a minute while the guy doing the choking waited for John to call the match. There were also at least three tapouts (one by Royce Gracie) where the fighters stopped after the tapout while John looked at them like "Hey, why are you guys stopping??" Watch UFCs 2 & 3 and you'll see what I'm talking about. By UFC 4 he was jumping in so hard to stop matches that he was injuring the fighters. John definitely became one of the best, but his first few event performances were abysmally awful.

The Gracies BJJ had a rivalry with Luta Livre in Brazil and there had been no holds barred fights televised there for decades. There were plenty of fighters that could have beaten Royce from Brazil. Gracie used to run small ads in men's magazines. I remember seeing these in the back pages of Popular Mechanics as far back as the 1950s so they probably existed long before. The ads were simple, saying something like "I will beat you up", accompanied by the word GRACIE and an address to contact.

While grabbing and holding onto each others shorts is a big "no no", its perfectly okay for Royce Gracie to wrap his hands into the other fighters gi and use that to cling to their backs, like a tick, until they get tired and give up. Also, it was okay for him to pull another guys hair out. Specifically, the braid Kimo had at the time lol

It's wild that Big John McCarthy could have fought in UFC 2, smashed Royce Gracie as the only other fighter with BJJ training, then (probably) won the whole tournament.

Jason, please check Al Snow's story about how Kimo and Joe Son wanted the plane they were flying in to crash because it would "bring them closer to god".
