That’s one of the reasons Matheson himself didn’t like the ending because they made it a “savior” ending whereas Neville understands why the creatures hate him in the book (and even the 1st 2 film adaptations sort of get it right but not 100%)

The “Alternative Ending” you talk about for Shawshank is the actual ending of the Novella. It ends with Red saying “I Hope”. This movie is one of the rare times that a SK movie adaption has a happier ending than its book/novella/short story counterpart. It is interesting that the original ending was changed as it mirrored the novella it is based on.

Maybe because it's more controversial? I honestly don't think the original ending works within context of the movie that was shot, even if it was right for the original stage show. The tone and pacing shift too radically. The re-shot ending isn't great, but I do think it at least flows better.

The reason for the more permanent death of Spock was because of Nemoy. He didn't want to keep playing Spock and only agreed to the Wraith of Khan if they killed him off. But due to the fans reaction to Spock's death and telling Nemoy how much they loved that character, he was convinced to keep playing Spock. They then filmed the ending that we know and Nemoy kept playing Spock.

The Rambo ending didn’t suit the movie at all. Sure it has the backdrop of being about a traumatized vet, disillusioned with the world, but most of it’s more geared toward being a cool Stallone action, albeit one of the darker, more grounded ones
@jasonblalock44294 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That original filmed ending was a carryover from the book, which likewise ended with Rambo dying. However, Rambo in the book was a MUCH darker and more violent character, who outright murders a lot of people. Book Rambo was a rabid dog who needed to be put down. Since the dark universe is cancelled they should create a slasher universe connecting the most iconic slasher villains they all don't have to be in the same movie (nor should they) just cameos and crossovers to some if done right
@jasonblalock44294 жыл бұрын
The problem is, most of the classic slasher villains are owned by competing studios, which makes the rights issues a nightmare. Jason vs Freddie took something like a decade to get made, and most of it was development hell trying to get all the rights-holders onboard. That's also why the rumored Hellraiser or Evil Dead sequel tie-ins never happened. It's just too hard to get studios to commit to such projects, not unless the producer has mega-clout. Cujo...in the movie the mom survives to rescue the boy, and live happily ever after...in the book The boy dies of thirst....as a compensation for this, Frank Darabont opted to let the kid die in the end of another Stephen King movie - the fog.
@keiththorpe95714 жыл бұрын
Frank Darabont's concept for the ending of 'The Shawshank Redemption' is actually more in line with how Stephen King's short story, 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption' ended. The final lines of text from the story as well as in the movie, spoken by Red as the narrator to the audience, do leave the ambiguity that Darabont had in mind. However, I've always thought that the ending, as was filmed and released, was always implied by overall tone of the story, though we didn't see it to it's conclusion in the written novella. Hope would win out, in the end.

@@RictusHolloweye You're probably right about that. It's that way for me. I like it more when it's good vs bad. The entire premise of Shawshank Redemption is finding hope in the darkest times, so making Red's journey ambiguous plays against everything else the film has set up.
@matthewcooke40114 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you're contradicting yourself here. Hope doesn't imply a definite, happy outcome. In the original ending, Red is happy and optimistic because he's on a new journey HOPES to meet Andy again. As the line from the film implies, hope has set him free. Whether he actually ever finds Andy is irrelevant (at this point). And as the audience, we presumably HOPE they will reunite. Once we see it actually happen, we're not hoping for it any more. Sorry, I just don't understand how the alternative ending contradicts the theme of the movie. For me personally,, it compliments it much better than the actual ending.

re - Birdbox Why should anyone believe that a 'school for the blind' OR a 'group who'd removed their eyes' could survive the onslaught of the _Crazy Collaborators?_ You know, those few people who all seem to be crazy, who can look at the 'monsters' and not kill themselves, then they go out and try getting others to look at the 'monsters.' Those crazies! Anyway, they don't seem to be above murdering people. The crazy guy they let into the house murdered John Malkovich's character, the gunmen the family encountered were trying to shoot the family, etc... So we're supposed to believe that these crazies are going to leave a bunch of blind/ self-blinded people to live happily ever after?? What, are they ONLY interested in murdering and terrorising sighted people?

How does Katie getting shot give closure to Paranormal Activity? 🤔 Even if she died, the demon still lived and the audience is still left with other questions.

You can actually see the clip of Rambo dying from the original First Blood ending in the 2008 Rambo movie. I don't know why they threw that in there tho, since it makes no sense.

Rambo was much more violent in the book and Troutman killed him out of mercy as Rambo wasn't able to turn off his war nerve.

They should have went with the original ending to diehard 3 and end the franchise there
