I really appreciate that you advocate listening to your own body instead following a rigid set of rules and being condescending to others' opinions. That makes me want to watch and listen more! For example, I have been drinking cow's milk for 40 years, doubling the portion when I was pregnant. I have two colleagues with whom I have lunch with everyday, who were also pregnant. We ate and shared the same food, the only difference was just they don't like milk and I do. Both of them had bone and teeth problem after giving birth. Might be coincidence, but I believe that it was because of the milk factor. Other friends have no problem with things like MSG and red meat, but my body doesn't feel good after consuming either one, unless in small portion, so I limit eating red meat only once a month during my period when I usually crave red meat. Our body knows what it needs. Thank you for all the information you provide. Very clear and helpful.

(Sorry to be such a nitpicker your videos are incredibly informative, practical and lucid), how can one avoid combining an acid with a starch when a dinner template would often consist of a grain-based steamed veg medley topped with a tahini or soaked nut plus spice plus lemon juice-water dressing … bit confusing, just trying to get it right. Also means chili can combine beans, tomatoes, other veg and spices and perhaps a starch but no grain, including organic corn. It is difficult at the beginning to examine different regimes recommended by various authorities who agree in the main but differ in details. Dr. McGregor for instance is not at all interested in strict food combining, although since he advocates a strict whole food plant-based diet there is very little danger of encountering avocadoes plus eggs etc.

Hi Evelyn, thank you for your feedback and no worries. Questions like yours are very valuable to best understand things properly. In general, most people in our population will not care about or follow food combing guidelines because they have so many bigger issues to be concerned with, like just eating the right food. Food combining is for those who are either very advanced on their journey of nutrition or in very poor health and need to heal their body. So how strictly or loosely you apply food combining will depend on your personal health needs. In my other food combining video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oabKo5Jtrdx-gqc), I explain that general guidelines are best without getting bogged down by details or rigid rules. In my meal videos, I cater to the majority of people who just need to learn how to eat the right food. In this video, however, I get more specific for people who are suffering from various health problems, especially digestive issues, and don't understand why or how to help themselves. If a person has great health and eats in a healthy manner (whole, plant foods) then they don't have to follow every guideline shared here, just the ones that they feel would be most valuable for them. However, if someone has very poor health, then yes, they may need to go right down to mono meals (single food meals) even, to heal and re-balance their body. It all, always, depends on our personal health and priorities. As an aside, the way we serve meals today with numerous ingredients may seem socially normal, but biologically it is not the best for us. What is normal and what is natural are two very different things. The body wasn't meant to handle 15 different ingredients at once. But we push our luck and our limits because humans are most often driven by desires of their mind, not the needs of their body. We want food to taste a certain way, we want to fit in, we want to have certain meals, etc. Well, some of this will be okay, and a lot of it will not, and so our body's resilience is tested, and depending on our personal stresses and sensitivities we will express different symptoms and conditions accordingly over the years. So again, it all depends on what a person wants and is ready for. This video is just meant to provide the biological guidelines and how each person chooses to apply these, if at all, is up to them. This is why the key to optimally healthy eating is to get the foundation right, this being whole, plant foods, and then it is up to you how you play with the details.

Interesting, Barbara O'Neil says the same thing about drinking water before and in between meals, however, Michael Gregor says it's fine to do so. Both arguments have merit.Your thought's?

It all depends on how much water really. If it is a few sips with meals, no problem, but large amounts, as is often done in our society of any beverage, is not a good idea for reasons one's own body can demonstrate, if we pay attention to it mindfully. The biggest takeaway really is that IF our food is naturally wholesome and plant-based, it is already rich in natural lubricants and naturally "wet" where no water or other beverage is required to consume it. It is easy to consume on its own, as it is. But if we look at the SAD diet, full of meats (dry) and refined grains/carbs (dry), it is no wonder that culturally we adopted drinking with meals. We have to remember, there is only so much room in our stomach too, so if someone wants to reduce their portions for weight loss benefits, then it may make sense for them to fill up their stomach full of water and not need to eat as much. But for most people it will not. Another point to keep in mind is that there isn't as much quality research yet on enzymes and how they function in the presence of different food environments, aside from what basic chemistry teaches, so Dr. Greger will share mostly based on what is available.

Thanks for stopping by the channel. As the channel is dedicated to whole food, plant-based eating, oils are not a part of this. A full explanation is provided here: www.evolvingwellness.com/post/why-are-oils-not-part-of-a-whole-food-plant-based-diet

Dr McGregor dismissed the idea that drinking water with meals diluted or inhibited digestion of enzymes

Yes, Dr. Greger is wonderful and shares a lot of valuable information, however there are also other experts who have found other case scenarios to be true and valuable. What I try to teach, in general, is to follow the natural instinct and biology of our body and nature, first and foremost. Our body is not designed to eat and drink the way we do today. Drinking with meals is a social construct that we have accepted as "normal", but most people don't stop to think if it even makes sense. Most of us got accustomed to drinking with meals because we got away from the optimal foods for our body, these being water-rich plant foods. When people eat dry refined foods, like all the different breads and such, as well as tough animal flesh matter, then they most often need to drink to help such food along. If we eat fruits or vegetables and meals that revolve around them, we don't have such a problem. Filling our stomachs with fluids and solids does not bode well for most people's health, overall comfort and digestion. Plus, if it is not water it can contribute to weight problems. So the best thing always is to listen to your own body, but in general, it is best to eat when it is time to eat, and drink water when we feel we need to drink, especially first thing in the morning and in between meals throughout the day.

I heard that drinking 0.5 litres of water 10 minutes before meals is good.

Listen to your body and your own inner guidance system. If you feel that you need water before a meal or that you'd like to drink before a meal, then do so. It is definitely better to drink before than after, but you don't have to at all, if you don't feel you need to. Just drink naturally throughout the day, between meals.

Nooo! 10 minutes before a meal is too soon. You should drink 30 minutes before a meal preferably. 20 minutes before is alright as well but don’t drink water any closer to your meal than that as it will flush out needed enzymes.

You TOTALLY exemplify what is wrong with "expert" food advice.........What !!! Not even pasta with tomato sauce ??? Are you kidding??? People would need to carry a computer along with them everywhere to keep straight all these over the top guidelines !!!! How about just one or two rules !. Whole food/plant based diet 2. the less oil/fats you consume, the better. p.s. you just knocked out 85% of vegan/vegetarian salad dressings with that stupid "no sweets with meals !! What about a drop of honey or dates?? GET REAL if you expect ANYONE to take you seriously !!!!

Steve, while I appreciate constructive feedback, your demeaning comment that aims to attack another person because you do not agree with them is not okay. If you do not need to learn about the more detailed approach to food combining, that many people with digestive issues need, so be it. But to blatantly disregard the needs of others and put down someone like this, is not. If you even took a little time to learn more about what I teach and how I teach, than simply react so negatively to this video, you would know that I teach people how to make healthy, plant-based eating very simple and practical. HOWEVER, as a health and nutrition educator I also get regular questions about food combining from people, who cannot simply rely on general guidelines. Hence, this video was the second and more detailed part to the first general guidelines of food combining video, for those who need it and are looking for such info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oabKo5Jtrdx-gqc

Steve C. - stop to think before reacting. She is giving you research based problematic food and meal combinations. Nowadays, you can find various types of pasta that is not made of grains but taste like regular pasta, so work around that with chickpea pasta or legume pasta and tomato sauce. Or this could be a new opportunity to break traditional problematic food combining and EXPLORE NEW AVENUES IN YOUR CULINARY ADVENTURE.
