Great tips Nikki! When my kids were younger, I used a desk calendar and hung it up in the kitchen. We referred to it as The Hub. Each child was responsible for one room a week. On Sundays, the kids were rotated to a different room. There wasn't much time that was spent cleaning. It was only maybe 60 min. or less a week. Kids spend more than that on screen time. In the beginning, I would work along side them, to show them how to clean. If the situation was over whelming at times, I would again work along side them. It taught them responsibility and lessened the stress on the family because everyone was involved. My husband and I had responsibilities with in the home as well. If a parent wants good results, they have to set the example. You have to work into it slowly with them. Understand that they won't be good at it in the beginning. It takes time, be patient, encourage them, and praise them.

Sorry for your loss 🙏🏾 I understand 100% I'm in the same boat I've had a lot of losses over the last 3 years and everything spiraled as a result. Trying to get back on track and dig myself out as well. What I'm learning is take baby steps, don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself grace and reward yourself (things I've always struggled with 🤦🏽‍♀️) praying strength and healing for you and your loved ones. You can do this 💪🏾

This is the same situation I am in at the moment. My sweet Mum passed away last October! My life turned upside down. On top of that my son got married this past January. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. The process of decluttering and organizing has begun. It's overwhelming, but as you say "start small" This is where I am at. Blessings to you!

All my life, I thought I hated laundry. When I downsized homes, the W/D downsized as well. Turns out, I hate *large* loads. I can churn through many small loads without feeling crushed. I wish I’d learned it sooner but grateful I learned it. Life changing!

Girl I stopped buying multiple colored socks 10 years ago. Such a time saver when doing laundry which I dislike. The visual clutter bothered me as well as the crazy time it took sorting all those out every week. My son and I wear solid black and dad likes solid white. Grab them out of the dryer and throw them into the drawer and BOOM! Done (with that part anyway). Also when you get a hole you throw away one sock instead of a whole pair. I'm constantly looking for small ways to reduce time while doing the same tasks everyday because all that little stuff really adds up. You guard your weekends. Me, I guard my energy because I burn out very quickly with the hours I work and I'd much rather put that energy into the people I love. Much love to you! ❤️

I totally understand the vicious cycle of anxiety, and yes, it is so overwhelming. My quiet, internal anxiety has made me dysfunctional for years, and it's like a living hell. This is a great video with common sense tips. I think I'll start with 10 minutes a day, and not put so much pressure on myself. And then I'll take it from there. I think there are a lot of us that get overwhelmed easily, and people don't understand unless they are the same way. You are not alone. ❤ Blessings!🙏

Oh my goodness Nikki, it's as if you've made this video just for me! I've said for a very long time that I don't look at one section of a room, I look at the whole room which then turns into the whole house and I just close up. My constant thoughts are "I can't do this, what's the point". I'm taking on board all your tips today and break things down and do a section at a time. I work full time and live alone, I'm always to tired when I get home from work and do nothing. From now on, I'm going to make time slots before I sit down for the evening and get one small job done. Thank you Nikki, I feel like you're my life saviour today

So glad I found you! I decuttered and organized my mom's senior apartment from 30 years of stuff from her single family home. Everyone is telling me I should start a business. I decided I would do it when I retire but now I am thinking to do it now. I have one business now (independent consultant under an LLC) but think I have room to do another business. It was so rewarding helping my mom and she is so happy. I am going to sign up for your course.

I love this video, thank you. I've been drowning, doing less and less over the past 2 months. I live with 4 others, and I feel exhausted because the majority of what I clean outside my bedroom is everyone else's mess. I can't stand living in these messes, but I decided that I would back off. Proves to others I help make a difference 😂 My rooms not great, trying to declutter and hope to move my room around. I just wanna relax all of the time and I know that isn't realistic. Motivation for me is always lacking, so these videos really help me. ❤

One thing that was actually a game changer for me was the realization that just because I started something doesn't mean I have to finish all of it... Like ugh I don't wanna clean out the shed... So I just tell myself I don't have to finish the whole thing, go spend 5, 10, 15min and it's ok to stop part way through... More often than not I actually end up doing way more than I said I was going to do anyway, but even if you don't, something is better than nothing.

I have no motivation because I get very little help. My husband fights me about everything in this house....so I do what I can do on my own with decor, paint and organization. He said don't change it if it works. Well I changed every single light fiixture, flooring, paint and decor and it brought value of house way up. I did talk him into new kitchen countertops but only butcher block counters. I changed all door knobs to glass...the house was his grandparents 1940s home. It was renovated in 2000. I came in and renovated what I could to update it all over several years. The only thing is why am I putting all this money into something that is not mine; also, and it has been said when we die it all goes to his kids and not mine. Kind of one-sided, but God will take care of it all. I wish I had somebody who helped me build things. Oh he did help build me a laundry folding table because he wanted to do it.

I find it helps if I keep certain things from getting overwhelming, and then when I have those things clean it tends to motivate me to do more. Keeping my kitchen clean makes the house instantly feel better and motivated me to do the rest, so I make it part of my routine to do a basic clean of tbe kitchen every day. Do all the dishes, wipe the counters and sweep.

Thank you for mentioning those of us with energy or other health barriers! The biggest help I've found has been keeping a small trash bag within reach. I also remind the kids at least once a day to go around and pick up their trash etc. I still sometimes end up with a pile of little trash bags by the door, but then once I'm feeling up to it I just have to take those out instead of filling up a kitchen trash bag (or three lol) with the piles of cans and wrappers I've been surrounded with for days or weeks.

Your calm and genuine love for what you do is beyond inspiring! The most important words I took to heart are for us not to look at the whole house as a whole project, but to start small in just one area and erase all the other areas from our minds..... I was picturing a literal eraser wiping out all the items and only zeroing in on the task at hand......not feeling unsuccessful for being unable to do it all, especially in one day, one hour or one minute! Thank you for this beautiful presentation and for your special, unique way of explaining the old motto of "take a big job and break it down into small manageable tasks"!!!

I, for one, really appreciate that you said that we don't have to follow all the new trends in our home decorating. I admit to getting a little offended by decorating or organizing videos that tell you this or that is out of style. If I like it, it stays. I personally feel like the millenials that are getting rid of all their parents fine china will be regretting that decision in the next decade. I feel, like you, that if it makes you happy, then you should definitely hold on to it. Thank you for this sound advice.

This all is so true. Currently, I plan to not add much more in terms of furniture or decor pieces just to cut down on the extra cleaning it takes to maintain those items. Basically, I’m becoming more in line with minimalism. It feels so good to just have clean and neat spaces without every inch being take up.

Thanks for the great points about the different ways to look at our homes and the "dissatisfaction" that we may be feeling. I often find that the immediate reaction is to renovate, remodel, gut it out, when sometimes the solution is a lot simpler and sitting right in front of us, but it seems overwhelming and too much to take on, even though the bigger idea would be more. Starting small, decluttering, organising, rearranging furniture and items until it clicks and makes sense for us in our lives are all great points in how to make small changes that can really impact our homes and how we perceive them.

Thank you Nikki. I needed this. So much love to you. 🙏🏼 I just wanted to add: I have been a viewer for so many years my mother was not a very organized person and I never really learned how to be organized and thats how originally found your channel. I started watching before I think I was even an adult. I started watching before I was a wife. I started watching before I was a mother. All these different life stages and you have been there for me. Its so easy to lose track of “what works for your family” with new milestones or even setbacks. I need to “reorganize” for what what works for my family at this current time. My husband is in the service and we’re currently in South Korea and the layout of our apartment is not necessarily something I’m used to so I’ve just been lost thinking we needed to buy different organizers and such but really just need the home to be clean and not have everything everywhere. Its also harder now with a toddler to maintain the house but I know it doesn’t need to be picture perfect just safe and clean for my almost 2 year old ❤ thank you I know you dont have kids in the house but can you possibly share what worked for you when you had little ones in the house? I am so overwhelmed with all the laundry and so many things! This video really helped. Thank you. 🙏🏼

You can also start your little one with their own little jobs too. My sister started her sons with light dusting when they were 2 years old, and now they are older they know how to wash dishes and iron their own clothes etc. If you give your children chores from an early age, they just think it's normal because they don't know any different. Most mothers start far too late and that's when they get pushback from their children.

I’ve been watching this channel since my first child.. He’s 7 now lol. And now that we have 3 children and I homeschool, I do find myself feeling overwhelmed and anxious with certain tasks I would just tough through before.. Thank you for the advice and validation to take these daily tasks steady ❤

Hi Nicki, I just found this video. You are a beautiful lady! I just wanted to ask if you have considered not having music in the background during the content portion, it's understandable in the intro. I really wanted to listen to the video, but the droning in the background is very difficult for some people. Thank you for listening.

Your tips are so true. Just now my biggest struggle is the communication. I'm an introvert and my com skills are almost zero. So I end up nagging, we quarrell, sulk, but except for bad mood there are no results.

I have found when my husband goes away for a day or so I wash all of my floors on my time schedule, in between my deep clean I put wet wipes on the floor and then I use my feet to spread it over the floor, job done

Thanks for this video, I really needed to hear how to start one space at a time. I'm the person that tries to do two rooms at a time. I will keep in mind that I need to start small

I'm so glad this was recommended to me. I've realized this week that I leave the house to feel recharged. And it's not just my current apartment, its everywhere I've lived. I'm excited to implement the advice you gave because I can't keep feeling this way. Edit: I've put your link on my calendar so if I'm still not organized by fall, I'm going to schedule a Zoom session. Thank you for offering that!

It helps me to decide I will spend one hour working. I set the timer for the hour, and oftentimes I go longer, especially if I'm in the middle of what I'm working on and want to finish it. Getting started is so much the hard part, and this often works for me.

I implement many of these things and have to say having a system that works for me for over a decade now has definitely helped and improved my home and life. I learned tackling one project at a time goes a long way to overall goals. I’m very tidy and a touch of OCD 😂 but I’ve gotten better over the years of letting go of the idea of perfection. I got a book over 15 yrs ago called Home Comforts- The Art & Science of Keeping House and it helped change my perspective and give me ideas. That was before the world of You Tube reigned and people now have all these wonderful videos to help. It’s finding the joy & gratitude in the little things. I’m so grateful to have a home to keep clean 💜.

Thank you so much for this video. I listened to it while I cleaned and my mindset shifted from feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and even resentful, to a place of feeling like the small steps matter, and that I'm on my way to creating a more beautiful & welcoming home. Thank you.

Thank you for this! It’s so great to hear your perspective. It’s safe to say, my household knows your videos 😂 and we needed this! As a wife & mom of 6, I’m trying to learn how to keep from being so reactive & overwhelmed. I’m going to try harder with the things you’ve mentioned. May God continue to bless you as you’ve continued to bless others❤❤

We recently downsized and I thought I’d decluttered enough, but apparently I did not. Then both of our moms passed away and we inherited their stuff. We’re working our way through it, but it’s a struggle. It’s hard when you are grieving. We take it a day at a time.
