Great tips Nikki! When my kids were younger, I used a desk calendar and hung it up in the kitchen. We referred to it as The Hub. Each child was responsible for one room a week. On Sundays, the kids were rotated to a different room. There wasn't much time that was spent cleaning. It was only maybe 60 min. or less a week. Kids spend more than that on screen time. In the beginning, I would work along side them, to show them how to clean. If the situation was over whelming at times, I would again work along side them. It taught them responsibility and lessened the stress on the family because everyone was involved. My husband and I had responsibilities with in the home as well. If a parent wants good results, they have to set the example. You have to work into it slowly with them. Understand that they won't be good at it in the beginning. It takes time, be patient, encourage them, and praise them.

Sorry for your loss 🙏🏾 I understand 100% I'm in the same boat I've had a lot of losses over the last 3 years and everything spiraled as a result. Trying to get back on track and dig myself out as well. What I'm learning is take baby steps, don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself grace and reward yourself (things I've always struggled with 🤦🏽♀️) praying strength and healing for you and your loved ones. You can do this 💪🏾

Girl I stopped buying multiple colored socks 10 years ago. Such a time saver when doing laundry which I dislike. The visual clutter bothered me as well as the crazy time it took sorting all those out every week. My son and I wear solid black and dad likes solid white. Grab them out of the dryer and throw them into the drawer and BOOM! Done (with that part anyway). Also when you get a hole you throw away one sock instead of a whole pair. I'm constantly looking for small ways to reduce time while doing the same tasks everyday because all that little stuff really adds up. You guard your weekends. Me, I guard my energy because I burn out very quickly with the hours I work and I'd much rather put that energy into the people I love. Much love to you! ❤️

I love this - common sense and nonjudgmental. I have an anxiety disorder and depression so when things slide... It's such a vicious cycle and can be sooooo overwhelming. Really love that you validate adapting conventional standards to more do-able approaches. And huge thank you for addressing out dated gender rolls that many of us are still fighting. ❤
I totally understand the vicious cycle of anxiety, and yes, it is so overwhelming. My quiet, internal anxiety has made me dysfunctional for years, and it's like a living hell. This is a great video with common sense tips. I think I'll start with 10 minutes a day, and not put so much pressure on myself. And then I'll take it from there. I think there are a lot of us that get overwhelmed easily, and people don't understand unless they are the same way. You are not alone. ❤ Blessings!🙏

I work full time and live alone, I'm always to tired when I get home from work and do nothing. From now on, I'm going to make time slots before I sit down for the evening and get one small job done. I find it helps if I keep certain things from getting overwhelming, and then when I have those things clean it tends to motivate me to do more. Keeping my kitchen clean makes the house instantly feel better and motivated me to do the rest, so I make it part of my routine to do a basic clean of tbe kitchen every day. Do all the dishes, wipe the counters and sweep.

Thank you for mentioning those of us with energy or other health barriers! The biggest help I've found has been keeping a small trash bag within reach. I also remind the kids at least once a day to go around and pick up their trash etc. I still sometimes end up with a pile of little trash bags by the door, but then once I'm feeling up to it I just have to take those out instead of filling up a kitchen trash bag (or three lol) with the piles of cans and wrappers I've been surrounded with for days or weeks.

Your calm and genuine love for what you do is beyond inspiring! The most important words I took to heart are for us not to look at the whole house as a whole project, but to start small in just one area and erase all the other areas from our minds..... I was picturing a literal eraser wiping out all the items and only zeroing in on the task at hand......not feeling unsuccessful for being unable to do it all, especially in one day, one hour or one minute! Thank you for this beautiful presentation and for your special, unique way of explaining the old motto of "take a big job and break it down into small manageable tasks"!!!

This all is so true. Currently, I plan to not add much more in terms of furniture or decor pieces just to cut down on the extra cleaning it takes to maintain those items. Basically, I’m becoming more in line with minimalism. It feels so good to just have clean and neat spaces without every inch being take up.

One thing that was actually a game changer for me was the realization that just because I started something doesn't mean I have to finish all of it... Like ugh I don't wanna clean out the shed... So I just tell myself I don't have to finish the whole thing, go spend 5, 10, 15min and it's ok to stop part way through... More often than not I actually end up doing way more than I said I was going to do anyway, but even if you don't, something is better than nothing.

Thank you Nikki. I needed this. So much love to you. 🙏🏼 I just wanted to add: I have been a viewer for so many years my mother was not a very organized person and I never really learned how to be organized and thats how originally found your channel. I started watching before I think I was even an adult. I started watching before I was a wife. I started watching before I was a mother. All these different life stages and you have been there for me. Its so easy to lose track of “what works for your family” with new milestones or even setbacks. I need to “reorganize” for what what works for my family at this current time. My husband is in the service and we’re currently in South Korea and the layout of our apartment is not necessarily something I’m used to so I’ve just been lost thinking we needed to buy different organizers and such but really just need the home to be clean and not have everything everywhere. Its also harder now with a toddler to maintain the house but I know it doesn’t need to be picture perfect just safe and clean for my almost 2 year old ❤ thank you I know you dont have kids in the house but can you possibly share what worked for you when you had little ones in the house? I am so overwhelmed with all the laundry and so many things! This video really helped. Thank you. 🙏🏼

You can also start your little one with their own little jobs too. My sister started her sons with light dusting when they were 2 years old, and now they are older they know how to wash dishes and iron their own clothes etc. If you give your children chores from an early age, they just think it's normal because they don't know any different. Most mothers start far too late and that's when they get pushback from their children.

Thanks for the great points about the different ways to look at our homes and the "dissatisfaction" that we may be feeling. I often find that the immediate reaction is to renovate, remodel, gut it out, when sometimes the solution is a lot simpler and sitting right in front of us, but it seems overwhelming and too much to take on, even though the bigger idea would be more. Starting small, decluttering, organising, rearranging furniture and items until it clicks and makes sense for us in our lives are all great points in how to make small changes that can really impact our homes and how we perceive them.

I learned tackling one project at a time goes a long way to overall goals. I’m very tidy and a touch of OCD 😂 but I’ve gotten better over the years of letting go of the idea of perfection. I got a book over 15 yrs ago called Home Comforts- The Art & Science of Keeping House and it helped change my perspective and give me ideas. You are so kind and your video was so motivational and inspiring. You talk about starting with small little projects and not that you have to jump in and throw everything out. That is one of the deterrents for people who feel overwhelmed. I feel like your goal is to help make people feel better about what they're doing, how they go about doing it and about feeling good about the decisions they make. And as someone with fibromyalgia, it takes longer which is why it takes so long to organize. And its hard not to beat ourselves up. Other "motivators" tend to come down hard on you, make you feel guilty about what you have and why you have it and I start to feel the anxiety geow within 2 minutes of the video. I dont feel that with you and i will be watching more videos. I have also ordered the cards. Thanks for all you do...... with a kind heart!!!❤

Your tips are so true. Just now my biggest struggle is the communication. I'm an introvert and my com skills are almost zero. So I end up nagging, we quarrell, sulk, but except for bad mood there are no results.

I really feel like the Devine led me to your channel thank you Jesus 🙏🏾 I really appreciate your tips and advice. I recently inherited a mess, a house that was my great grandmother who held on to everything. I really feel overwhelmed and looking for tips to help get this home uncluttered.

Woah you did in one hour takes me 3. Including making dinner? But I do love the idea of keeping that work vibe going! Thank you

Kitchen is area I need to declutter. It's very small. Not much space for the things I need. I will do my best to figure it out. I am great full I stopped buying "stuff" almost a couple years ago. Now is a matter of narrowing down the necessary things I need to keep,as in my dishes and cookware. I have a hutch or whatever it's called in my mouse size kitchen,oh how I need it moved to the building. I really love it I only paid $75 dollars for it. Then I will have to buy a food pantry, since it's currently in the hutch.
