You mentioned that you selected two passes for the S9 but did you change the clean level or did you leave it on the weaker “detail clean” setting? Also, are those two rooms mapped?

Great video! It looks like your roborock has an old version of the firmware. In the new version, the map became colored and the map was divided into rooms. The latest firmware version is 3.5.7_002008. It is also better to enable the map saving mode in the settings.

They do well on carpet since nothing moves around like wood, tile floors. Something i noticed about my roomba 595 is it has a mind of its own, decides which room needs most time and likes to be in room with people.

Your test ignores some of the primary issues with which a vacuum robot must deal. Primary among these are, "How well does the robot handle incidental debris?", and "How well does it handle obstacles like a forest of chairs?" It doesn't help much for the robot to have terrific cleaning power if it is constantly eating video or power cables, socks, or yarn and halting because it is jammed. Nor is it great if it can map the room if it gets stuck under the table because it can't figure out how to get back out of the chair maze (which changes a little every time people sit at the table).

Roborock wins again! I got a 5 Max after seeing reviews on them. Your video on the 5 had a lot to do with it. My only complaint with it is dust bin size and the design of all robots makes it hard to get next to walls and corners. I would like to see them come out with a self emptying unit! Thanks for your help!

My home is fully carpeted with exception of my bathrooms and the utility room. A friend said these vacs would go right the area rugs in the bathrooms. I did not see that happening. This is very important to me I am 81 years of age and without a housekeeper at this time. Can't use an upright vac anymore; but, surely don't want to invest in one of these if they are not going to do my whole house.

Someone should review the various cleaning mode options too. For instance the S9+ can do 3 separate cleaning modes: quiet, detailed, and custom. Custom gives you three power options with max power being stronger than the default detail cleaning. You can also edit the number of passes. I feel like when you compare these, you should be using the vacuum to their full potential. The S9 should be set to custom with max power and two passes. Otherwise your aren’t comparing each vaccum’s max potential.

I do not have the issue with the S9 that the video poster did with the hard floor. My hard floor and tile never have anything left over (except right by the base). I have two golden retrievers and three cats. In terms of software updates, yes it can get better in terms of how it determine when to use more power and not for example. While it does user the camera, people keep forgetting that entire flat front surface is a 3D sensor which really helps it get around tricked spots / edges a lot more than others. The item about cleaning is how good your mapping is in your house and how it goes over items. I had to map my floor twice for it to be perfect. You simply cannot turn these things on and expect them to be perfect the first two or three times you use it. Some are better at mapping but overall the S9 is the best on the market (CPM, Anti allergen, edge, etc). Granted when it first came out it is crazy expensive. I got the S9+ and the M6 mop bundle for 1,000 dollars! Compared to when it used to be 1600. AS for Night time, yes dark rooms is a problem, however it does not need much light at all (dim at best, like a night light type dim). I run my during the day only but the time I did have it at night, my nest protect lights turned on and my automatic night light that detects movements and it did well.

If the Roborock would come with a self-empty bin I would buy it. However, right now I am torn between the Kyvol Cybovac S31 and the irobot i7 which both have self-empty bins. The Kyvol is a 2 n 1 vac and mop..so leaning more toward it.

I'm about 6 months in on my shark IQ self empty. At first I wouldn't recommend it but they've worked out most of the bugs that were originally complained about. The bagless bin honestly did it for me. It's awesome. Yes it uses vslam and requires light but that's why I have smart plugs hooked up to several lights in my living room just program it to turn on when the robot runs at night and it's completely self sustaining. Maybe have to clean once a month. And I have dogs. Some people hate it but I love it for half the price of roomba 🤷‍♂️ very powerful suction also and it self cleans the brush.

Rommba i3+ you probably already are your decision but that pricepoint and what you get for it is amazing. Alot of people complain about both the i3+ and the Shark for noise...but its a vaccum. Things can go wrong. But the i3 is a bit more quiet and has amazingly thorough cleans.

honestly, I'm surprised none of the companies prioritizes keeping the lines clean, like they all make beautiful rows of vacuuming and then ruin it with those diagonal paths across them, all they have to do is retrace along the edge of the room to get back to the home base. strange.
