And one of the point that is missing is: they do all of that EFFORTLESSLY. Because those of us who are able to do some of those items spend SO MUCH ENERGY AND DO IT SO MUCH SLOWER just to meet the same requirements.

Even a timer or reminder doesn't always work if I can't react to it immediately 🫨 soon you'll walk around willy nilly to just check you haven't forgotten anything and the fear makes it harder to DO or experience something at all in life

@@lazyperfectionist3978 its not so much that the teacher is the problem, its that the ENTIRE class is listening the second you get that chance to speak. not only listening, but also judging, at that age. @@DJL3G3ND - look, kids judge you regardless of whether or not you speak up (and no doubt you yourself are not immune to judging your fellow students either) so they're not gonna use you asking a question as an excuse if they already do not like you or think very little of you, that and that little temporary embarrassment aimed at someone like me indirectly helps others who may have been way more anxious to ask the same questions get their answers without risking embarrassment

I always leave my hot drink to go cold, then I heat it up in the microwave, try to sip it, realise it's too hot so I leave it to go cold again. For my birthday last year, my daughter bought me a mug warmer to sit on my little table next to my desk. it keeps my coffee just at the right temperature. It's a a total game changer.

0:58 "I don't understand the question." Yeah, I live with a *very* neurotypical husband, and he literally cannot comprehend some of my challenges. They just plain don't compute for him. Bless him, he's very kind about it, but he simply doesn't understand the magnitude of the struggle it is for me to do certain things - he is genuinely baffled/puzzled by my inability to make phone calls, for example. What I wouldn't give to be able to brain swap with him for one day, just so he could have a frame of reference 😕

The inability to make phone calls is probably the issue that has the most pervasive effect on my life. Not only am I not able to fix my bank card being locked, because they will only take phone calls.. I can't even explain to other people who need me to get finances fixed, why I can't simply call them up and sort it out at any time. So I have bins to be paid for, a driving licence to apply for, no ability to top up my phone credit to make a call, without any transport. The situation is pretty bad, like living on a sinking ship, and it is all because I cannot get myself to make phone calls, or even remember to credit my phone to do so. It was nice to see your comment. To know I'm not going through that alone. that I'm not being as unreasonable as it feels from the rest of the world.

@@falls2shine712 I'm sorry to hear about your challenges. If I absolutely MUST make a call, I've found that if I put my phone on speaker phone, it's (very, very slightly) easier for me to have a phone conversation. I don't know why this helps (maybe because it feels less like a phone call since the phone isn't up against my ear?). But I wanted to share in case it's useful for you. Alternatively, if you have a supportive close friend or family member, have them join the call with you. My husband has done that on occasion, when I was worried the call would really confuse or disrupt me, just so he could help make sure the conversation stayed on track. (Since some places will ONLY speak to the individual, not a representative.) I wish someone offered a service where they would make phone calls for you. You could provide what you want the outcome of the call to be in an email, digitally sign something that gives them permission to act on your behalf with the call, and then just let them sort it out. I would literally pay money for that.

That is so awesome that he is kind about it. My husband had the gull to say to me everyone has "ADHD" I think he actually meant everyone can get distracted..I started to explain the difference between a neurotypical and a neurodiverant brain, he looked shocked. I told him I wish I had a brain like his. It's his choice if he wants to research this stuff but I believe he did that night because he hasn't made a comment like that since. This is still so new to so many. Like you said a brain swap would be very beneficial at times. 😮‍💨

Yep, it's how many women and introverts fly under the ADHD radar. And then we often end up in relationships with avoidant ADHD types who seem so chill because they just avoid/ignore/forget anything stressful. So we've gotta stress for two, and it's impossible to communicate with them when something bothers us, because their mind will just go lalala until we're acting happy again. Don't do it people, get yourself a partner who can do the emotional labor and invisible labor with you.c

I especially relate to the sidequests, lol. I will be for example, doing laundry, while I suddenly decide that I need to clean my cupboards. That then leads me to think that "hey, I haven't actually finished the game on Playstation yet". While playing, I suddenly pause the game and start a monologue about some topic that came to mind while playing the game (I will talk out loud, even those monologues) ,which then leads me to searching online of the said topic. This then leads me back to the "hey, did I finish doing the laundry?". Because of this I have learned to say out loud "okay, I will first do this task and after that I will do the second task" I have to say them out loud, multiple times otherwise it won't work. Because of this method I nowadays go on sidequests lot less than before, but I still do sometimes, sadly it's not 100 percent solid method 😅

Didn't know I had ADHD until I recognised the symptoms shown on your videos and I realised that I've been dopamining instead of just buying what I need and didn't think too much about the price. Taking a step back and realising what's happening has helped stop from spending far too much, which is vital given the ridiculously high prices of basic items at the moment, so thank you!

Have a place for each important item, close to where its most commonly needed. So glasses are always left on the table by your sofa spot, keys are in a bowl near the mainly used exit. Have a pretty box for feminine hygiene in the bathroom - nicely hidden but handy when needed. Then routines and habits help. Always put your keys where they live before taking your coat off. Sunglasses live well next to the keys.

I am currently juggling at least 5 pairs of glasses. They all have different prescriptions as I don't seem to be able to throw away the outdated ones. 50% of them the frames are broken. They are lying all over the house and I pick them up randomly and hope I'll be able to see something through them. As I have one long sighted and one short sighted eye the prescriptions are interesting and some help me see close up others long distance. I have tried tethers and that can help, but often find that I have two pairs hanging around my neck and they get all tangled up. Last night I was trying to watch the footy (long distance for telly) and of course because I can't concentrate on it, was also trying to play a game on my phone (short distance) - Total effing nightmare. 🤣

Lost a set of keys for an entire year. House, car and work all bundled together for convenience. Never remembered to let my work know. Mainly because I was never the first one there so I never had to unlock and my co workers learned long ago to make sure I left when they did or I'd still be there the next day. Kept forgetting to call a locksmith to change the locks at home so I didn't lock the house when I went out. And used all of the different hide a keys I had for my car because I lose those keys most often. For an entire year... One day I put my hand in my jacket pocket, a jacket that while I don't wear ever day I do wear often, and there they were. I obviously also didn't wash that jacket for a year.

This video reminded me to put the wet sheets in the dryer. Only problem is I forgot to turn the dryer on the last time I remembered to put the wet clothes in the dryer and now all the clothes are wet and in the dryer, so, thanks.

A couple of days ago I put the washing machine on a timer (for some reason I find it easier to put it on late at night, but that's not an acceptable time to wash clothes). When I remembered that the machine should have run and went to check it, the clothes were dry and the machine was off - I'd managed to put it on the right setting and set the timer, but I hadn't actually pressed start...

It’s great! Make coffee at night, leave by the bed, wake up to cold coffee. Transfer it to a glass with some ice, great for a hot summer breakfast drink, courtesy of ADHD. You’re welcome!

🤣😂OMG! THIS has got to be the best vid yet!!! 🎯The ‘laundry do-over’ 😂 and the, ‘not finishing a drink’ thingy! I didn’t know that my sister did the same as me, leaving coffee & tea cups to get cold all around the house until she & her husband came for a visit. Both our husbands pointed this out about how annoying it is to them.😂 Everyday, I hear my husband shout out, “ Oh! Surprise! Surprise! 😡Look! Your coffee cup in the microwave from this morning!!!” (I totally forget about it every single day😬 I even annoy myself😆)

Oh, the side quests... Even when I'm not looking to dig into the rabbit hole that is any random topic I don't fully understand at a glance. New window with just YT open? Auto 60 tabs open, that "I'll watch later" or go into the bookmarks memory hole. I also always finish my hot drinks. Most of the time by stone cold o' clock after I either forgot them or didn't think of them. Spilling has been ages, though.

I got all of them The not Spiling and reheat drink got me so hard. For me is either , pouring so slowly looking so intense at the Jet the liquid and the thermos or glass or pour the water quickly without control and splashing everything. With hot drinks it drink it quickly in seconds or slip one time or two , hiperfocus and forget totally geting it cold and having to get up 3 or 4 times to heat it XD

Dopamin items!!😮❤ Now I finally have a name for that.😂 Side quests are actually fun. I often start to search for something, and come across something that I wanted to order or tidy up a while ago. So that becoming my side quest until I find what I was looking for. And sometimes there are then 3 side quests in a row.😂 But not simultaneously! I hope it's not too frustrating with us "functioning" people. Damn, it's not like you are not functioning. Opposite actually, you do so much more than we do, just the timelines don't match. If we had to go through all those things with 5 different people talking to us all the time... we would soooooo loose every test. Watching this just made me feel kinda sorry for what you might feel when you see others doing stuff "easily".

My worst sidequest was running a bath and then for some reason feeling like it was a good idea to also make myself some eggs. The idea was that when I was done making them, I would turn off the bath and eat them really quick before getting in.... but instead I completely forgot the water was running and ate said eggs while watching a show. I was almost done with the episode before I remembered the water was still running. >w>

Omg finishing a hot drink. I never ever thought about it. I have never done such a thing. I have just in the last year gone into a store and bought only what was on the list, but I moved to an area with far less “dopamine” items available. I didn’t know that’s what I was doing but yeah it was breaking the bank. Hot drinks gone cold that’s my interior design philosophy. Sigh

I have so many of these from work. Why don't you need color coded folders? Why do you trust yourself to label or right the first time, aren't you going to rename it 20 times to make sure you remember it. How did you remember to do that thing without 14 reminders? You can just finish with one task and switch to another, you don't find yourself sucked into one task on your backburner list and/or completely unable to do the high priority task until it's panick time?
