Opinions on flip flops definitely depend on where you live. I notice the east coast has no tolerance for em. But the west coast is much more chill about it. Living in a coastal city, it's normal and definitely not looked down on. Kind of confused by the claim that sandals are fine, but not flip flops. What sandals look good exactly? A true fraternity celebrates the differences of its individuals and uses those differences to create stronger bonds/ familiarity. Dont be a sheep , instead find friends and bbrothers that actually care about the real you and not about how you look. I can understand if they suggested a dress code that is all about looking professional to prepare you guys for your future careers but I doubt that is what is happening. Instead it looks like they want you guys to fit a particular non-functional style because they care more about how they look to others than they care about the individual members This is why they only select people who already think like them to join, now they want you to all look similar. Find a fraternity that is more about the bonds created than the dress code. Take what I say with a grain of salt since your fraternity may be a great fraternity but that cargo pants ban suggests otherwise.

I think the type of pants you wear only matters depending on what foot wear and whatever else you have on. Say you're wearing a Timberline type of boot, it would look dumb as hell to have some slim fit tighty legged pants that stopped at the ankle like you wore your little brothers pants by mistake. That's why they are called boot cut jeans. I do own one pair of slim fit jeans but I find them way too tight around the crotch and legs like I'm wearing condom pants, some people do look better in them than others but its just not comfy for me personally.
