Are you asexual? Somebody who identifies as Asexual is somebody who does not experience sexual attraction or an intrinsic desire to have sexual relationships. There appears to be a lot of stereotyping when it comes to sexuality and what it means to identify as a certain sexual orientation. This may be down to people not fully understanding what it means to be asexual or how other people experience asexuality. To end the stigma, here are a few things people get wrong about asexual people.

The points made in this video have been researched and taken from other sources according to assumptions that are made about asexual people. if you suspect that you or somebody you know may be asexual, then always confide in somebody you trust to talk about it.

Like I told my mother, who tried to 'catch me lying Me, commenting on a well put together and nice looking pop-star. "I *thought* you said you aren't attracted by anything?" Me: Well I still appreciate beauty and what looks nice! Doesn't mean I feel sexual attraction towards them! I don't see you wanting to **** that nice looking car you thinks look nice. There's a big difference. " She's.... still in the mindset that my asexuality is because I haven't found 'the right one' or it's because I'm sick with no energy. I've... always been this way and it made me very confused about myself until recently (33yrs old) When I finally understood what Asexuality was and how it suddenly opened my eyes that what I experienced, had a name. That I wasn't alone..

Much like the pineapple improving the taste of semen myth, starting as a study to see how far it would spread compared to a more mundane lie. The pineapple claim spread so fast, with hundreds of outlets reporting on it and doing their best to try explain it, the origin point was buried and lost. True meme in action. I found out (at 16 I might add) that people date for sexual reasons and not just because they wanted to bake pies, live in a tiny house together, cuddle with tea when it’s cold and go hiking together when it’s warm. Pretty sure I’m ace tbh- Hello- update over half a year later. I should state I’m 18 for this whole story and already identified as asexual. Bout a month or two after I posted this I met a girl- we got really close- she asked if I would date her. Figuring the feeling I had felt toward her was romantic attraction. A month and a half more of dating and after we kissed I just- realized I didn’t feel anything. That I didn’t veil her as any more then a friend. A few talks with my therapist and many sleepless nights later. Me and the girl had a long talk- she had been cheating on me- well I wouldn’t call it cheating since we had only been together for a month at the time she started. But she had been seeing someone else because she felt like I didn’t really love her. I told her about what I had been feeling and how I wasn’t sure about any of this. So we broke it off- it only ever really lasted about 2 months and was the only romantic relationship I’ve ever had. But we didn’t end in an argument, just a mutual agreement that it wouldn’t work out, and we wouldn’t have any bitter feelings toward the other. I went trough a lot, trying to figure out what was wrong with me and why I didn’t love her. I talked with some AroAce friends and thought about it, did some research, and what I was feeling toward her was probably just platonic attraction. I do identify and Aroace now and have no plans of getting into another relationship (obviously) for forever. Identifying as Aroace has been one of the best things that’s ever happened to me, made my life a whole lot better. It makes me feel so much like I’m not “broken” anymore. I feel so much more content with the relationships I have. I may never romantically, or sexually love anyone, but I still have a very happy life filled with love. Platonic love for my friends, familial love with (some) of my family, love form my pets, love of my hobbies and the career I’m pursuing (I’m going to collage to become an ictheologist right now), and just love for the life I’ve built with the help of my friends and family and coworkers and classmates and therapist and everyone else who supports me so much. I lead a life filled with so much love and appreciation now and I can see that. Being Aroace is amazing! Us Aces and Aros and Aroace are out hear living lives and proving that you don’t need sex or a romantic relationship to lead a fulfilling happy life! Stay safe fellows!

As a demisexual, to me sex is the ultimate way to be close to someone or a physical expression of an emotion. I can't fathom a one-night stand. I can't imagine being physical with someone unless I was in a deep and meaningful relationship with them. Jason Momoa is hot, but if he offered himself to me on a silver platter, I wouldn't want it.

I see a lot of people say that “sex is what makes us human” when in reality that is the stupidest statement I’ve ever heard in my life. Most animals on Earth have sex, does that make them human? Is sex the ONLY qualification we need to be human? Really I think that what makes us human is our ability to choose if we want to have sex or who we want to have sex with. The fact that we have a choice is what makes us human and people need to realize that just because you deviate from “the norm” doesn’t make you any less of a person.

I understand that being homosexual is probably the most risky in terms of backlash, but asexual people are pressured in similar ways. What always bothered me about asexuality is how people confuse it with being aromantic. Those are two different things and some should really start to look more up. For example: I‘m a fangirl. And I often look for asexual characters. And one time I found one who was not only asexual but also a great character all together. That is until I found out that he was meant to be aromantic, not asexual. I wasn‘t even mad, I was just really disappointed because the creator usually put so much research into creating their characters.

Sorry if this is over-stepping for a stranger on the internet, but I really connected with your comment and felt compelled to share. I know it's easier said than done, but you should try not to hate yourself for something that's part of who you are. Yes, finding a relationship with a partner who has the same preferences for intimacy may be more challenging for you than most, but it's not impossible. After all, you exist (and all the other lovely aces in these comments, myself included!), so there's bound to be others like you! Plus, you are a whole, complete, human all by yourself, who is deserving of love, no matter what kind of relationships you may or may not have throughout your life (platonic, romantic, etc). It's good to be accepting and content in life, but if you truly desire to be in a relationship with someone like you, don't give up! That's all I wanted to say. Hope you have a wonderful day =)

@@ache5935 just be careful with who you go out with, and if it seems like your relationship might get serious just let them know that you aren't interested in sex & (if this applies for you specifically) that it's completely off the table for you, nonnegotiable. @@Flarflenugen Some people just seem to form a rigid view of how the world is and if anything comes along that doesn't fit in, it's either given a temporary excuse or is denied being real. Like in the case of my friend's wife, she seems totally fine with all forms of sexuality except asexual, as having a sex drive is just what humans have, apparently. But she's the same with other things too, like mixing certain foods is just something *not* done. She was seriously repulsed at the idea of a bagel with chicken and cheese, chicken or cheese, sure, but both on a bagel was like taking jackhammer to the foundation of physics to her. My friend believes it's just how her family raised her to be as they're very much the same with odd, specific steadfast beliefs of things. I assume that is how it is for a lot of people, that somehow their brain gets hardwired into their own perceptions and they can't let go or adapt to the larger world around them. Rambling now, but another friend, she's from a very pushy and opinionated family. She's been taught women *have* to wear makeup, even when home alone and was pressured into cosmetic surgery because her petite frame was too "boy-like" and kept making her believe she would never get married because she wasn't "womanly" enough. Worst part is, she fully agrees with them and got mad at me for trying to convince her that she was fine before and is fine now and doesn't need any surgery to be worth something, especially to herself but she just got mad at me. I would have been fine with it if she just didn't want to talk about it, but the unnecessary and unexpected anger stings. Unfortunately her self image and self worth issues have caused major commitment issues, so she's constantly having one night stands but shuns and ghosts anyone who actually cares and wants to build a relationship. What amazes me most is how much time and effort people put in to trying to "correct" others. It's just so much easier to not give a damn, if someone isn't hurting anyone then let them live their life. If, you feel like they need help, offer it, don't push it as misunderstandings are everywhere! It seems a bit cold and apathetic, but it's how I try to live my life.

@@pedroviniciussilvaleal8113 you'll probably get better answers than mine, as I am only questioning. The friend who explained it to me said it really depends on the person. There are three "types" of asexuality. Sex-repulsed: "ew gross" Sex-Neutral: "Well if it makes my partner happy..." And Sex-favorable: "I have a sex drive but not towards a specific person." But to answer your question, yes sex is important to a relationship, but not in the way that "you should have sex because you are married." It is more important that the sexual desires of each person are on a similar level, be that level at 0 or 100. The main thing is understanding that romantic attraction, or love, is different from sexual attraction, lust. It's a fickle thing, because they are often portrayed as either one and the same, or completely separate, but the truth is somewhere in the middle, where a misconnection in one can harm the other. So yes, they do feel the romantic attraction, but they wouldn't feel the sexual attraction.

The hardest part for me was that I actually started hating relationships and the idea of sex as I was growing up. You know when literally everyone keeps talking about attraction here, sex there, of how they would to kiss and touch someone? Or even worse, when someone started getting physical and weird with you just because they felt attracted to you. I always tried to understand anything that I couldn't, but this...I really can't. Other people can't really understand why asexuals stays single for a long time, but actually It's pretty logic, there's no point in pursuing someone who we know won't accept being in a relationship without sex, and some of us won't make it just because our partner wants to, since it doesn't make sense to us.
@VanielDeeform

Sure, and It’s also not other people’s fault either if they do feel sexual or want to kiss and get physical when they feel attraction. When I was younger I spent a lot of time trying to understand and define my own sexual orientation. I can be attracted to either male or female in a romantic/sentimental way which for some time made me think I was Bisexual, but then I noticed that I didn't felt attracted in a physical level but emotional, making me think I was Pansexual. Later on I understood that I was Asexual because, though I do can feel sexually attracted to someone, most of the time I'm not "sexually driven" as some of my classmates used to say. I simply didn't and, though I don't mind intimate contact, I don't feel any need for it and sometimes I can even feel a bit put off by it. In the sexual sense I've no trauma regarding it, so I'm one of those who can safetly confirm that Asexuality isn't something that's BORN from trauma or something of the like. I've always been like that since childhood regarding the pleasures of the flesh. What's more, I regard the body more in an "aestetics" point of view than anything else, jeje. I used to have a friend who I tried to explain what's Asexuality to her 'cause she asked me why did I always identified myself as such, because she was one who also thought that, to fall in love/be with someone, feeling sexualy attracted to them was a MUST and- yeah, while in a romantic relationship there can be something of the like, it's not a requirement to be sexualy attracted to them or lust for them, to love them. I can say that that conversation was very stressing for me that time because of the misconceptions she had about Asexuality, which many of them even DENIED the possibility of Asexuality being a thing, a real orientation. Anyway, I got out of that one alive and with my mental sanity intact for the most part so, it was ok. I liked the video a lot and not being able to give thumbs up more than once to the videos of Psych2Go have always seemed unfair to me, one is no enough jaja. Please do keep up with the good job bringing valuable information like this one to us!✨

It's so frustrating when people say sexual feelings are important in a relationship for it to be healthy. Like why does Love needs to be sexual?
@lyricowhite6543
@lyricowhite6543 Жыл бұрын
@@aninvisiblepotato8532Honestly? I don't really know why. If we talk about having healthy relationships in the romantic sense, I don't think there's an actual NEED for the sexual intimacy to be present for the relationship to be considered HEALTHY. I mean- I've seen couples of old people who obviously don't or can't have that kind of intimacy anymore but they're very happy and satisfied besides each other; just in their loved one's company. And I don't know, but there may be even couples who, for some physical, biological or psychological reason, can't or won't have such intimacy and yet, be very satisfied and happy in their relationship with their partner. I'm not saying that sexual intimacy isn't something good or that shouldn't be, just that there's no absolute NEED for it to be there for a couple to be happy, satisfied or wanting of each other. Yes, sexual intimacy CAN be good for a relationship to deepen or even bloom but- for me? I've always thought that feelings, emotional connection and compatibility, are way more important. After all, the body and it's functions decay with the pass of time, but the feelings and emotions one has for another may not if they're good enough. Sexual intimacy do can keep it alive for some, but for others simply don't and- it's a bit sad, because Asexual and even Demisexual people sometimes have it tough to find a long-lasting partner because most people are too focused on sexual intimacy and may not stand our "celibate ways"-as some people say- and break off or even do certain despicable things behind the back… What I want to say is, LOVE and SEXUAL INTIMACY can go together, but there's no absolute NEED for each one to be there for a relationship to be healthy or be satisfactory. If you can have sexual intimacy without love/feelings, why can't you have love/feelings without sexual intimacy?? 🙂

Also, don’t assume that someone who is ace is just “afraid to come out as gay.” *You don’t get to pick how other people label themselves.* Someone may be ace and homoromantic but someone can also be ace and heteroromantic, panromantic, biromantic, etc, so that statement can just be straight up rude. Edit: oh yeah and don’t forget all the other romantic labels (aromantic, demiromantic, etc) so yeah just don’t say stuff like that. Please.

Just pointing out that the aromantic labels don't belong under the ace umbrella, but rather in the aromantic spectrum. Asexuality and aromanticism can exist together, but they can also exist separately as not all aromantics are asexual. So it's important not to put aromanticism under asexuality so you don't invalidate non-asexual aromantics.

P.S Disclaimer is listed in the description box. [EDITED] Thanks for the feedback on the asexual flag color order is in the incorrect order. We've given feedback to the animator. Unfortunately, we can't change it within the video once it's published. Going forward, there shouldn't be an issue with this in the future. However, everything else with the information is accurate. How I’ve experienced my ace journey 1) I’ve come to notice that whenever I developed a crush/squish on a person I tend to pay more attention to the persons aesthetic and/or physical features of their face, funnily enough I sometimes develop a crush/squish on a person if they remind me of a fictional character and/or IRL “celebrity” 2) I usually develop squishes more than crushes, I’m not really interested in the broad range of sexual/romantic relationship, I just want to be one of their close friends with them and do cool shit together ya know?

“Being asexual has nothing to with […] the jokes you crack” THANK YOU. I am one of the most dirty-minded people in my class, I’m the one in my friend group always telling dirty jokes. Sometimes I feel weird about the fact that I am the one to do this when I am also asexual, but ultimately my level of comfort with the topic has nothing to do with me being asexual (especially since I am only ever so slightly sex-repulsed), and I needed to hear this from someone else too. This is also extended to the whole video-thank you for all of it. The algorithm has caught on to my sexuality and it makes me feel like there’s a lot of ace rep around, but in reality too many people don’t even understand what the term means. So, my point is that every piece of representation counts; thank you again, from the bottom of my heart

I’m 19 and recently came out (not so publicly) that I’m asexual (still in questioning about if I’m aromantic too) and it took so long because I was just trying to imitate what other people did, without feeling at ease with it or understanding why people were obsessed with sex. But then, I just realized that I’m just not interested in having sex (and probably romantic relationships) and that it’s not in me

The only thing lacking here is explanation of what sexual attraction is exactly and how it differs from libido
@kode-man23
@kode-man23 2 ай бұрын
This is the best way that I understand it/ it was explained to me by my therapist: Sexual attraction is looking at a person and getting the “sex” stimulus from that specific person. Libido, or sex drive, is feeling the sex stimulus without a specific person causing the reaction. From an ace perspective, you might find a person to be ridiculously attractive, but do you honestly want to engage in sexual activities with that person? I know that for me, the answer is no. Having a high sex drive also doesn’t preclude someone from being asexual. You could still masturbate, but not want to engage in sexual activities with another person. I just try to simplify it. Am I having sex? No. Do I want to be having sex? No. Do I care that the answer to those first two questions is “no”? No. Then I’m somewhere on the spectrum.
