This is a super underrated film. Leslie Nielsen is a comedic genius and he will be missed. It’s a shame that this would be the last Mel Brooks film he directed due to the film’s failure, but I think it should be right up there with The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men In Tights as some of his best films.

Peter MacNicol. In fiction, the trope of a character who is a mind controlled servant of the villain is known as a "Renfield", due to the popularity of Dwight Frye's portrayal in the original film. In an amusing sort of foreshadowing, MacNicol played the Renfield in Ghostbusters II, before playing the actual Renfield here!

I find it hilarious that last year, "DEAD AND LOVING IT" was the very 1st Dracula film I bought on DVD! I've played it 3 times already, once with the audio commentary-- by Mel, Amy Yasbeck & Stephen Webber, possibly my favorite audio commentary to date. It's my 2ND-favorite Mel Brooks film (right after "YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN"), and I went to see it TWICE when it was in theatres. I knew my Mom would have loved it, as she was a huge fan of Bela Lugosi and his 1931 film, but sadly, she was too sick to go. It amazes me to think that Amy Yasbeck & Lysette Anthony are WAY sexier and far more attractive (to me) than any of the women in the 1931 or 1958 versions. Nobody mentions that the "autopsy" scene was clearly a tribute to the near-identical scene from the pilot episode of "QUINCY, M.E." with Jack Klugman.

I hear ya. Back in 2013 Moranis said him and Brooks discussed a sequel to Spaceballs. Then in 2015 Brooks also claimed he was completely open to making a sequel. So it sounds like for awhile he wanted to go back to directing but is more comfortable just doing occasional voice overs. He is getting older. In fact a lot of actors and comedians go back to where they started from or happy doing just enough to pay the bills or keep busy.
