I was 8 when my sister was born, my mums best friend turned up at my classroom in the middle of the day and announced that the baby was here and took me to the hospital. It was awesome because the whole class was so excited for me and I got lots of attention the next day.

I just had a thought about helping the older child connect with and understand their younger sibling. Idk if this would work since I don't have children so let me know but I was thinking that it may help to document your first child's development and everyday life as they grow so that when you have your second child, you can show your older child the pictures of them when they were babies but only showing them the pictures that match your younger child's developmental stage. For example: if you're wearing your 2nd baby, show the older child a picture of when they were that young and when you had to wear them. This way they can see that you also went through the same thing with them. So that they start to understand that you don't love the 2nd child more, it's just that the 2nd child is a baby so they need a different kind of attention. I feel like you can do this with all sorts of daily things like pictures of the older child in their crib, breast feeding, changing their diaper, kissing them, cuddling them, showing where they slept, etc. Of course this would only work if you planned it out before having your first child.

On the note of the boppy for breastfeeding, I totally agreed with you! Newborns are so small and light, it’s easy to hold them up for the first few weeks. My lactation consultant actually said the boppy was positioning my son too low, and I was having such a hard time keeping him on because of it. It was super helpful once he got bigger and didn’t need that support from my arm behind his back, but like you so said - you really have to hold them up and close (especially at first!) so it’s not a necessity at all.

Tip for introducing kiddos-we told our first that we were getting him a baby from the time we started introducing the concept to him. So when he came to the hospital he was stoked to see his baby! Doing the same for the third as well :) and they are both obsessed (almost 4 and almost 2).

When I went to visit my new baby sister at the hospital (I was almost 3), my parents had a present for me from my baby sister. I know of other parents who have done this for big brother/sister. It is a positive connection between the big sibling and the new baby as all kiddos love getting a gift and it can keep the sibling occupied while everyone is busy with the new baby. Also, regardless of the gender of the big sibling, giving him/her a doll to care for. I have given a doll to big brothers (preschool or below) before and the parents have appreciated it and didn't have a problem with their boy having a doll.

Just had my second 7 weeks ago at 40 years of age. My first was 15 years ago had a natural birth with an epidural, 9 1/2 hour labour from waters breaking until arrival. Was expecting another natural labour except this baby had other ideas and was footling breech so I had to have a c section. The after birth cramps were nothing compared to the c section experience. I ended up with a migraine caused by the spinal block so I had to have an epidural spinal patch to fix the hole and get rid of the migraine ☹️ Our 15year old loves his sister no jealousy whatsoever 🙂 I took my breastfeeding pillow to hospital thankfully as I used to it to feed bub and support with my c section. The nurses really liked my pillow here in OZ. I wore my baby for hours yesterday as bub would not settle, my back is so sore today. My older child is a big help and helps me with the vacuuming as I had really bad sciatica and during the recovery the past 6 weeks. Big age gaps are awesome!

I'm about to have my third baby and the only tip I have for having baby #2 or more is Don't Worry About It. Don't try to plan out how you're going to handle everything or how your schedule is going to change. For one, that's practically impossible to do anyway. Every baby is different with different sleeping and eating habits, plus those habits change every couple months anyway as the baby grows. Learning to let go of my tightly controlled schedule and letting the schedule form and adjust naturally was hard for me. (This, BTW, is true with the first as well.) But for the second reason to not worry about it, is it's just unnecessary stress. Like I said, you can't plan every moment out so just trust yourself. You're not going to let your children starve. Every day may not be perfect, but that's ok, you'll figure it out as you go.

Thank you so much for making this video! I am seven months pregnant with my second. My son is three and will be almost 4 by the time my daughter is born. Everybody keeps asking me if I wanna have more kids after this and my response is always I don’t know because I’m not sure what it’s like to actually have two children. But this was definitely a lot of helpful information and I’m so excited to try for a natural VBAC with my daughter :)

I went into labor on my own with my daughter, lost my mucus plug at 3am November 15 2018, I also had some contractions but they went away after two hours. 12 noon I had my bloody show. Everyone was saying stay home don't go to work but I was like naw i could be days like this.. this is my first baby. At the end of my shift 7pm I had strong contractions but was still in denial. I drove home and I told hubby let's just go get checked but I doubt it's anything. On way up to L&D my water broke and when I finally got checked they confirmed it indeed did break but I was only 1cm dilated. They had to augmentate my labor because I was strep b positive. I had my daughter the next day around 1:40 in the afternoon November 16 2018. In total my labor was 18 hrs 40 mins. I pushed for 1 hour and 20 mins, needed a vaccum last ten mins because I was to tired to keep going with no sleep and little food. Is there still a chance my second labor will be half the time even though I needed pitocin to augmentate my first baby? I hate that I had to have it but it was only because my waters were broken being strep b positive. I don't know if I could of processed without but I'll hopefully find out if everything goes smoothly with this baby. Also what are chances of Amniotic fluid Embolism with induction or regular vaginal birth? I know it's rare but I feared this with my first and especially my second. I hope this delivery goes smoothly

Birth #7 in December. There was no rhyme or reason to my labor lengths. The only thing that has been certain is the cramps get SO much worse. Like, Can I get an epidural after the birth? I tried baby wearing with every child until my last, tried every wrap there was, and never was successful. None of my kids were every content. I would have a happy baby turn into a monster by attempting to wear them, every.single.time. My back sure wishes I could figure it out, but I have given up.

Not a mom yet but a thought I had about babywearing is that it also keeps baby safe. I think when the older sibling get excited they try to be too involved and will try to pick baby up out of their swing or bassinets which could be very dangerous.

I’m due with baby #2 this November and there’s so much I want to do differently. I don’t really regret anything from my first birth, but your epidural comment really hit home. I got an epidural earlier on and by the time I was being told to push my husband was literally having to shake me awake while I pushed our daughter out.

Baby #2, after 9 years. So this feels new to me, and my daughter is excited for her sister but little does she know it's sharing time!! With my 1st, i was in labour for 3 hrs and 30 mins or less of pushing. So I do hope this is faster and shorter because I'm so anxious to meet her.

Thank you for this video. My son is 4 and I’m due in 8 weeks with a baby girl. He’s so excited but I’m feeling sad it won’t be just him anymore. I know I will get over it but i just feel bad for him! To top it off my hospital won’t allow him see his baby sister while I’m in hospital since it’ll be flu season. Hopefully I have this baby quick and recover quick so I can be with my son and he can finally meet his sister 😩

Had my first baby 2 months ago and was in labor for only 10 hours. I got an epidural after 9 hours because I figured it was going to be a lot longer!! Only pushed for about 15 minutes. Hopefully with my second it will be just as fast if not faster and I will be able to have a natural birth!

My sil pushed for 3 hours with both her children but she's 5'4 and sort of petite and her kids were 9lbs 2oz and 9lbs 3oz. She didn't tear or require an episiotomy with either of them though.

I have to say my scenario was different than what you mainly addressed because my older kiddo was almost 6 when his sister was born but he did come and stay with us in the hospital for much of the time we were there. For our family it worked really well, we had some amazing bonding time, the nurse put him in charge of being number one helper for his sisters first bath, he got to access the 24hr snack room with his dad and we all felt better being closer. Obviously this isnt the case for everyone but I wanted to mention it because I felt this pressure from everyone that I wouldnt want my older there, and kind of made to feel crazy for wanting him there.

My 7 year old has been so amazing with my almost 2 year old. He loves to help out and play with her so I can sneak a quick shower or get dinner ready. It’s also much easier to go grocery shopping with both of them because they keep each other amused at the store. But I’m a little worried about the one on the way (due in may) I’m sure my older one will be wonderful with the baby again but my toddler is deff going to be jealous and I’m not sure how to expect her to act. Hoping it won’t be as hard as I’m imagining.
