Right?! I don't ever plan to become completely vegan, but I do want to become more plant based for health and environmental reasons. Ideally I'd love to have a plot of land to grow my own veggies, have some chickens to get eggs from, and a to be a landlord to a couple of beehives. Any meat I do consume, I would like to be taken from an animal that lived a decent life and was killed humanly, and all parts were utilized. Veganism fundamentally contradicts my death positivity/acceptance stance, so I can't embrace it fully. When I die, I want animals to eat me. Preferably sky burial-style, because I love birds.

Yup that's probably what amazed me most. Nobody really cares or digs in enough to find out why, or they automatically assume it's for animal ethics and don't want to know further to keep their blinders on.

The people who just tell you how wrong you are without having a conversation or listening to your reasons are the worst - especially when the parent of your child’s best friend tells your child their parent will be sick and hospitalized within the month (?!?!). Who does that? 4 years later and I am the healthiest I have ever been, maybe I should ask that parent if her thought has changed at all! Lol!

I've never found a good, affordable vegan cheese alternative, and despite all the versions of cheese sauce I've tried, mac and cheese, etc, are things I couldn't have as a Vegan, but important to meet a craving and reduce limitative feelings. These ultimately brought on an eating disorder which is why I'm so hesitant to return to Veganism. I tried so many recipes, learnt from endless people, and really struggled to enjoy eating at all. I was absolutely miserable and became very ill because of it. Currently vegetarian, without eggs, and a limited budget. It can be really expensive, frankly as vegan; whole foods aren't, obviously, but without the balance that sort of diet is what made me starve myself rather than keep eating what felt limited/OK at best. Slowly eating less dairy but don't know if it's possible for me to be Vegan. Took a long time to develop to fight my ED.

Great solid advice here. Took more steps for me. First gave up red meat. Then chicken. Then fish. Then eggs and dairy. Then hidden eggs and dairy. Then products. Took maybe a year. Failed a bit at first. But going gradual was the way to go. Giving up dairy and eggs was hard. But also had the most profound effect on my health and weigh. Way more than giving up meat. 12 years now and never looked back. But there are so many better products now. #MeatCloset

You are the first person I've ever heard who talks about the idea of eliminating 'obvious' dairy and eggs as a step toward eliminating animal products. I am SO thankful someone else has taken this approach. I'm plant based (for the planet, and my health) and have made it to avoiding the obvious stuff (when it is in my control), and have moved into using alternates in recipes at home. I live with omnis, and they have not even paid attention -- everything I make for the family is veganized. When I say 'in my control' I mean that I I still don't ask "is there an egg in this?" if someone brings a batch of cookies as a gift for our family, and if I'm at a restaurant or at a friend's and the only thing available has a bit of butter or an egg in the ingredients somewhere, I will have it, because the alternative is me going hungry and/or embarrassing the host or wasting the food they made for me. I appreciate that you are offering these ideas as an inclusive step.

I love you even more! All of these tips are so helpful. You have been another vegan to tell me to take steps instead of jumping in 100%. I have a history of disordered eating and perfectionist issues. For someone like me full cold turkey on anything like eating will have me spiraling out of control. Giving up types of meat first, milk, and then eggs are what Im working on. I have had so many vegans say, "are you okay with just beating your spouse once a week or sometimes? Are you okay with pedophiles molesting kids sometimes?!" I am like wtf?! I want to be vegan as far as possible and practical. I need to take steps. I cannot be vegan by tomorrow. Kudos to those who change overnight and never go back. It would make it so much easier if I could do that.

Everyone is different and everyone's circumstances will be different. I have had anorexia nervosa and still have EDNOS or disordered eating. I went vegan slowly and I stayed vegan for 6 years, but because of the pandemic it became an inaccessible lifestyle for me (for many reasons no one cares about) so I started having some eggs and dairy again. Then I realized I had actually been having disordered eating behavior the last year I was vegan. So now I am eating mostly vegan but for my mental health I don't put so much restrictions on myself. Like if I really want cheese on my impossible Whopper, I'm going to have it.. just little things seem to help me not obsess anymore. I am very sorry to any animals I am hurting but I don't know what else to do. In my 20s my anorexia was so severe I had multiple organ failure, had my gallbladder and a kidney removed. I have to prioritize my mental health, otherwise I would still be abusing a sentient being.. myself. And I don't say this to discourage you or anyone else because like I said everyone is different. But I also say it to say, just don't pressure yourself. You're doing what you can. You're still saving animals even if not as many. You are also an animal and you have to care about yourself too. It sounds like that's exactly what you're doing so keep it up! 💚

We are all on our own Paths. We can only compete with ourselves of yesterday, and sometimes, we will feel we've let ourselves down. But we don't owe shit to assholes. While many of us want to create a community, like many communities based on faith or ethics, you'll always have some nasty asses who demand purity. Piss on them. You be you. You'll get there. And when you do, just remember to never treat others as you were treated. We can get others to join us, with care, with sharing our recipes, sharing videos of animals released into sanctuaries, etc.. The part where you mention vitamins is so important - a lot of people think that because they're giving up meat/dairy that they should suddenly start taking all these vitamins which is absolutely not true, and in some cases it can be very harmful to your health. Please see your GP before you start taking a bunch of vitamins that someone on the internet said you must take, or before you start with those fancy monthly subscriptions of vitamins based on a questionnaire you filled in in 2 minutes.

I was definitely one of those people who went cold turkey. I just had too. I realised that how I was feeling after eating certain foods was not normal but I never knew. Turns out I have a serious problem with bovine products and dairy. As soon as I cut those out, I stopped feeling and being sick all the time. It was like I got my life back. Yes I now that sounds cheesy but it got to the point where I just couldn't function. I still miss a bacon sandwich, pork pie or a good old sausage buttie but that's because of food nostalgia and I'm perfectly fine having an alternative. I also learnt to embrace the fact that I prefer savoury food over sweets. I always felt so much pressure to love cake. Going vegan was seriously a life changing experience. P.s I'm also now addicted to sauerkraut and kimchi.

Been trying to cut back on my meat eating and eating more plant based lifestyle. only issues for me is that I'm diabetic which means no rice, pastas which I've seen so far are vegan staples and I'm allergic to soy, ie tofu and soy based alternatives are definitely out. Been making my own cashew milk, eating lentil soups with a salad which I'm finding is helping my bloodsugar atm. I still like to watch vegan and vegetarian channels because of the non-meat ideas I can get to make low carb for my own dietary lifestyle.

I have a soy allergy and have to eat low glycemic index too. (Not for diabetes but for my Crohn's disease) Instead of rice, I've been using oat groats, barley, and sorghum. They're high in fiber so they're very beneficial for me. With pasta, I spiralize some veggies, like zucchini or butternut squash or something like that. Soy sauce can be replaced with coconut aminos, although I can't say I've found a good tofu or tempeh alternative.

Im constantly educating myself to better my journey. Its vegan month for me ❤ so glad about it ❤what really spoke to me in this video is when you might refuse chemo and they you would die and arent able to advocate for veganism.❤ the medication topic is something very few discuss, thank you❤ "Every step in the right direction is good for animals" this is exactly what i needed to hear❤ and meeting animals i agree is the best way to connect with your values. Re marginal groups who are getting exploited by industries such as the meat/slaughterhouse industries ... I used to work in an insurance defense firm who did workman's compensation. Some of our clients were those same industries whose workers got injured on the job. Won't go into details, but it can be quite dangerous for them.

November is two years going vegan for me. When I told my family that I was changing my diet, especially that close to the holidays, they lost their minds. They could ridicule my weight and tell me how big I was since leaving the military but not support my way of changing that. When I lost the weight and started getting amazing medical results I had their attention. When I basically relearned how to cook it changed the way they all eat. It took time and now they tell me I’m too thin but they have all made an effort to learn and eat differently. Soggy oatmeal, in any fashion, is probably the worst texture ever…

I've been vegan for a long time now. I don't even remember when I started eating a plant based diet. Anyhow, I'd really like for my adult daughter to eat a vegan diet. I think it'd be so much healthier for her. She'll eat my curries and soups and stews but she loves her chicken sandwiches, nuggets, etc. I've made the vegan versions and she loves them. So, for those dipping a toe or helping others to start a vegan lifestyle, fake meats work. Not having to give up burgers and chicken sandwiches and cheese steaks etc can help a lot. She's eating maybe 80% vegan now, without even thinking about it. I never say, you're vegan! I just keep making delicious food, adding in fake meat meals and watching it grow. In fact, her new favorite mac n cheese is the vegan one I make. She even asks for it now

@@atCatLeigh I don’t want to waste a lot of time on this and maybe you aren’t American, but in the US if you’re on welfare or a government funded food program, it’s very strict with what you can purchase on EBT. A block of gov’t cheese isn’t just a meme, you can get a block of cheese for cheap. You can get a decent amount of ground beef and chicken for cheap. Sometimes mostly women can’t feed their entire family on “beans and rice “ when they already have so much against them.

I don’t think we talk enough about how “vegan policing” and the all-at-once demand to change can really trigger someone who has a history of disordered eating. I think it’s far more important for people to find a good balance, even if that means they never become fully vegan. It’s great to care for animals and want to eliminate harm against them as much as possible, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of your own physical or mental health. We are animals too, and we should be kind to ourselves and one another in this journey ❤️

@@gullyexplores so tofu comes from edamame beans. High in nutrition, flavor and protein. Turned in to tofu. That has less nutrition, protein and flavor. Then people add flavor because it has less. That’s like taking natural fruit juice. Remove the juice and have water. Then add flavor again.

I love that kindness and doing the best you can were stressed in this video. I am as close to vegan as I can safely be but I have some medical issues that lead to a very restricted diet and when I'm in a flare up mode the only thing I can eat is eggs. Literally nothing else. No substitute will work when I'm in that state and I can't just wait it out since it can last for weeks or months at a time. I've gotten a lot of judgment from vegans and vegetarians for this but the only alternative is for me to get a feeding tube and the nutrition you get that way is almost never vegan. I am very supportive of a vegan and ethical lifestyle but there's only so much I can do. I wish I wasn't shunned by so many for just doing what I have to do to survive. After all, humans are animals as well and deserve compassion and understanding.

The „be nice to omnivores“ (or at least make peace with the fact that they are) is a lot like preparing Tofu correctly: The preferable way is quite obvious - but still a LOT of (newer; maybe non-asian?) vegans do the same mistakes when they start. (I‘m allowed to say that, I made both mistakes more than once 😅)

I like saying I’m going vegan bc it feels like a gradual process really works for me. I appreciate you talking about that. I’m sure I’m the only vegan that may feel this way but Mayb someone else can relate. I actually don’t like animals… like at all. But I don’t think they should suffer. I know they feel pain and experience life similar to us so I just want to leave them alone to live their life. I don’t want to like hang out with them. 😂 so my point is you don’t have to like animals to be vegan. Just understand they individuals and deserve to live a life of peace.

Thanks so much for this video! I’m def going to read more about veganism. I went cold turkey earlier this year (I’ve been vegan off and on for several years) and decided to stick with it for health reasons. Then I began educating myself on which products to avoid (still can’t believe we test products on animals!! 😖). Now I find that I have to educate folks (especially in my family and cultural background) of what veganism IS and IS NOT. They seriously think I eat leaves and twigs 😂 But I actually find that my vegan diet is WAYYYY more creative and diverse and interesting than my non-vegan diet was. 🤷🏽‍♀️ What hurts the most for me is having to defend being vegan to doctors. They immediately assume that I don’t get enough protein or nutrients and I’m like …are you kidding me. I probably get more protein and nutrients than you do! And then I proceed to inform them of my protein and nutrient sources and they’re like 🤯 There def needs to be an improvement in educating others about veganism. So many people believe that we are so limited and restricted, when actually we are not. There’s a whole world full of vegan foods and resources-we just have to know about them and implement them into our diets.
