Don't forget everyone! Your trip computer that calculates the remaining range of electric will factor in how the car has been driven for the past 200 miles just like a petrol or diesel. So for example, if you've done a few short journeys, the range computer will adjust this and show less range to be more accurate for you. This is another reason why a 100% charge will not always show the "max range" that the car has achieved under a WLTP test.

I should just shut my eyes... I’ve got a GLA45, it’s a proper under the radar stunner. It has got coast/glide ability once it’s at the right temperature and it’s almost... economical. For the vegans amongst the readers: 13mpg for the first mile! Yep if I have a need to do a short journey in the pouring rain instead of walking it’s not the best. 22mpg after about 4 miles, then general running about is about 27mpg. So I have a smallish car to take stuff to the dump (doesn’t everyone have that requirement) and it’s amazing fun when you press the loud pedal (oh no, we can’t call it the loud pedal anymore). So in about five years time I might look for a joint hybrid. Whisper it quietly my neighbour has a 14 plate hybrid Yaris and it’s rather good - wrong badge though. Shallow - most certainly 👍🏻👍🏻 Keep it up Nick and make good use of that pre-heat and defrost.

The manual doesnt really give you the information that you are able to give. these new cars are so complex now, its almost to the point that Mercedes should include a short training course as part of the sale. What is your opinion about drive and charge, is it worth it ?
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve thank you! Ooo a C300de! Very nice! They do usually! Mercedes-Benz showrooms usually have Star Experts who can hand over the car to you and give you a good run through of all of the buttons. Given the situation over the past year, it has made it impossible for showrooms to facilitate this :( The charge program is useful but is definitely not the best way to use a hybrid. The idea of a hybrid is to transfer most of your mileage from fuel to electric (depending on trips that can vary). The cost of travelling a mile on electric is about a 1/3 of the cost than fuel so to make it cheaper for you, best to plug in where you can. Your MPG would drop by about 15 or more if you use the charge thing also.

@npoleary4 ай бұрын
Sadly not tried that specific method but I guess it makes sense. Just in case the cruise was cancelled on the steering wheel on purpose or accidentally, the last thing you’d want is for it to be on D- - and it brake really hard for the car behind. Hi Nick. Can you help me please? When charging my CLA250e over the last 3 months, I have only managed to get a maximum of 37 miles of range (Regardless of weather, pre-heating, etc.). However, driving 200 miles using the engine in sport mode, I managed to generate 42 miles of range! So, how can re-gen generate more charge than a high quality home charger? Thanks
@npoleary2 ай бұрын
Ah nice! There’s no such thing as a “high quality charge”, that range indication is an estimate. All cars are exactly the same and will estimate how much range you have left (petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric) but the only difference now is that you’re paying attention to that number. It’s behaved the same all this time and estimating how you drive but the most important one of all, where you drive. If you’re driving in a built up area the range will always be less, but get to some faster speeds and over time you’ll see the range go up a bit. The reason why you had more mileage is because (I’m guessing) that on that 200 mile trip, you were probably travelling at faster speeds (more than 30mph) which is more economical (up to 60mph anyway, after that it tapers off. Hope that helps!

Hey Google Reviewer, I’m glad you’re excited about upcoming models! Unfortunately these are always kept a secret by Mercedes-Benz and are usually announced 6 -8 months prior to its actually release. Each model of Mercedes-Benz has a life cycle of approx. 6-7 years (a lot longer than Smartphones as these are typically every year). However within that timeframe, there is usually a facelift. So we can kind of predict what may happen, the A-Class was launched in 2018 so potentially it could have a facelift next year. Hey Sam, thank you! Yeah got a nice little collection going now! I’ll keep them coming where I can! Regarding the playback of files on a memory stick, I don’t think there would be a solution. The power to the USB-C ports is turned off when the ignition is switched off and the driver’s door is opened (to save power). It would retain the playback position on a phone because it’s running on the phone’s operating system via an app which is physically running in the background. But on a memory stick, if the system is switched off, it will start again from folder 1, track 1.

Hey Mase, the battery level program is in affect as soon as you start driving. The idea of hybrids is to reduce emissions wherever possible so yes it would naturally be on electric at the very start to stop pollution. Battery Level kind of acts a bit like Mercedes cars that have EQ Boost where it will still turn the engine off as you slow down etc when on the road. Great video. I am a new owner of a GLC300e and am still learning my around it and all of its features. I would love a video specific to this vehicle or PHEV range in general in particular when it comes to the Dynamic Select and using it in conjunction with Route based navigation etc to maximise electric range. Or i think I heard there is a setting where the electric motor can be set up to a certain speed limit and then switch to petrol mode once you go over that speed?? This could be very handy for freeway driving. Also can the Dynamic Select be switched at any speed and load or is it always best to switch when stationary and under no load? I also have a factory fitted towbar on my car. Is there anything specific I need to do or a certain drive mode I should select before towing my boat? The dealership here doesn’t really know too much about these PHEV’s yet. Pretty poor really since it’s the flagship dealership.
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey FNL1 eSports, Ooo very nice! Funny you should mention the topic Dynamic Select, I'm currently in the process of producing some content on this! :) In terms of using the Dynamic Select switch, you can adjust this while on the move at any speed, you don't have to come to a stop and then change it. Unfortunately you can't set what speed the electric mode is active from as to swap between electric and engine, you just choose the mode on the Dynamic Select switch. It will always default ot starting on electric first as long as the car has sufficient charge. The GLC will run on electric only up to a max speed of 87 mph but of course you can switch it over and use the engine at any point using the mode "Battery Level" on Dynamic Select. With towing, you can use any mode, although for this mode I would probably suggest Comfort or Battery Level. When towing with electric, your range will be significantly reduced so you could get the car to focus on using the engine for that instead of using up all of the electric, but it's up to you which mode you think is best. Hope that answers your questions!

Sorry, Nick, but I have to disagree with some of this. I've found urban driving to be the most efficient way to drive an EV, getting much higher m/kWh. Higher speed on motorways really eats up electricity at a far higher rate than lower speeds, even if there is more braking in an urban environment. Secondly, adaptive cruise control makes more minor variations in power than an alert human driver does, so efficiency is worse in this mode - you can of course still use the limiter to avoid going too fast (experience with both BMW i3 with adaptive cruise control, and EQC with Driving Assistance package). The D-auto mode in the EQC is difficult to use, as you have to try to guess if it's going to allow regenerative braking in a particular circumstance. Unfortunately Mercedes have not implemented one pedal driving in the EQC, but D-- is the nearest to this, where you only have to touch the brake as the car drops to a very low speed. TIP: once the brake is on, push down forcefully more on the brake, and HOLD mode is implemented (shows in display, but not Heads Up display, for some reason) - this will hold the car in position, meaning you can take your foot off the brake, and start moving again with light touch of the accelerator. Heated seats also need mentioning - these come on as well with climate pre-conditioning, and are a more efficient way to get the heat where it's needed i.e. You! Also, programming in recharging points while travelling on a longer journey in the EQC will allow it to preheat (if necessary) the battery to the ideal temperature for optimal recharging - it's much slower if the battery is too cold. Still love your channel!
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey Laurie Miles, Thank you! Glad you like the videos! No that's was exactly my point in this video, the faster you go the more power you consume so absolutely, motorway speeds are going to eat into your range more than urban driving. Regarding the adaptive cruise, it's down to the individual driver's behaviour to be honest. If you can read the road well ahead of what the car can do then great! Most new electric car and hybrid owners may not be used to or familiar with some of the way these things work or operate so having the car assist with a few things such as brake recuperation may help but as with most systems, you can override and take over if you wish. Although you did raise a very good point about the heated seats, I may have forgotten to mention that on the pre-entry climate point in the video as it is way more economical to use this rather than the actual heating so thank you!
@philipclaeys69203 жыл бұрын

@lauriemiles18423 жыл бұрын
@@philipclaeys6920 I want to use one pedal driving, where I can predict how much braking there will be from a given easing of the accelerator. With D-Auto, at times the car won't brake as I expect, and I have to hurriedly move my foot to the brake. Max regen (D--) is the way to get the best from EV driving - I've already trained to drive in this way in our BMW i3. Having said this, we've yet to go on a long journey and try out the D-Auto and Max Range combo.

There are many reasons not to buy EVs, but the main killer is depreciation. The cost of replacing the battery is around $15,000 and is likely to rise over time. This will reduce the value at an eye-watering rate, as it will effectively become valueless after around 12 years. No one is going to suddenly want to pay this amount to keep a 12-year-old car on the road. The entire thing will therefore need to be scraped with disastrous costs to both the owner and the environment. Either this or many people will be driving almost valueless EVs with an ever-reducing range until it has virtually no range at all. The lack of charging stations is a minor issue compared to what will undoubtedly turn out to be a complete catastrophe, especially for poorer people who simply will not be able to afford to exist in rural areas. While the environmental implications are so profoundly horrendous that no environmentalist worthy of the name should wish to go anywhere near EVs. What is good for the manufacturer is ALWAYS bad for the consumer. One thing that manufacturers love more than their own children and true environmentalists should hate with an unbridled passion is built-in obsolescence. EVs have this in spades.

Tyre presssure ISNT! the same as the clap on the car shows. The EQV (electric cars) are made from a "diesel" model. Electric models are way heavier... For example.. The diagram for tyre pressure on the EQV 300 says 260 psi. But thats for a diesel model. In fact the pressure should be 360 psi (100 more) simply because its an electric car.. 3 tons...
@npolearyАй бұрын
I would be very surprised if Mercedes shipped a car with the wrong tyre pressures…so not sure how true that is. *Also inflating a tyre to 360 PSI is dangerous as this WILL result an explosion so do not do this.* Truck tyres are inflated to over 100PSI to carry heavy loads. EV’s although heavy, will not match the weight of a fully loaded truck so this is not correct. PSI for an EV is typically just 10 to 15 PSI more than a petrol or diesel. A quick search indicates that an EQV has individual tyre pressures of 36 PSI. www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/services/manuals.html/eqv-mpv-2022-03-e447-mbux/tyre-pressure/overview-of-the-tyre-pressure-table

That’s definitely not right Have you spoken to Mercedes? It is absolutely normal for range to change and fluctuate but not that much.

@@npoleary 40km range is a myth.The truth is between 2km to 10km

So I’m based in the UK and the tests done state up to 25-29 miles. This is possible but you’ll have to replicate the test conditions. So for example 23°C, travel between 40mph and 60mph and use of heating and A/C will affect it too so for max range that would need to be off. There are more but those are the most prominent. If your range is that low, I would suggest speaking Mercedes to get that checked out.
