AC Valhalla is the most unnecessarily long game I've ever played. None of my friends beat it, they all tapped out playing the main story line. I've read things like 60/70/80 hours to finish the base game... it took me over 100. I did sample side quests in the early going, because that's something I've enjoyed about this series. Nope, not this time. My map was loaded with what had to be at least 70% of all side quests icons on the map (not counting the hidden objectives). At the end of the game, I couldn't even remember who the characters were, or why they had motivation to fight with me. That's how long the damn game is. Each section of the world has you starting an adventure quest line with specific characters, so you spend hours with a story to then move on to another completely unrelated one, and this will happen half a dozen times. Worth noting, Valhalla dramatically shifts the game play away from the stealth mechanic, where the entire game is essentially stealth optional. Not only that, it'll just make the game take longer! Scaling castles loaded with dozens of soldiers doesn't favor subtlety when you can kick the doors down with an army at your side. Should I try to sneak into this fort, or use all of the weapons and moves I've spent my time acquiring/upgrading to bash through a scrubby unit of enemy soldiers? Did anyone beat this game? I'm the only one I know that did!
@danielolsen84902 жыл бұрын
@matt I'm impressed, and also very curious. How did this experience stack up to the other AC games? Did you find that exploring this game was generally worthwhile and enjoyable? That sounds silly as you've clearly put the time in, but some folks are completionists by habit and will platinum every game they play. Do you think the base game was appropriately paced?
@LexIconLS2 жыл бұрын
I haven't touched an AC game since Black Flag. They're all just too much and too much of that is identical gameplay loops. Not to mention that every Ubisoft franchise these days is basically the same game with a different skin so it can pretend to be a different one.

Speaking of having to boat everywhere, just to get to story missions in Odyssey you had to boat for like half an hour and fast travel points we sooooo out of the way most of the time, especially on the islands. The map was more than double the size of Valhalla and had even more filler. Valhalla had some fluff but it's not even close imho.
