@@Waywind420 If modern engines had never existed, Magnus would still be the best of his generation due to his mastery of the endgame. Very rarely does Magnus out prepare his opponents (classcial) on opening theory, it's almost always about getting a playable position and grinding out the endgame. In that aspect, engines have minimal influence and, if anything, Magnus would only be further ahead of the field if engines had never been invented. Magnus is the GOAT at all time formats which highlights just how well he intuitively understands any given position and combines that with rapid calculation to always come out on top. Memorizing deep engine lines doesn't help with chaotic time scrambles in bullet / blitz. Before modern engines, the Russians / Soviets had a huge advantage over the rest of the world. Chess was state funded, they had the best coaches and players all pooling together resources in order to collectively dominate the rest of the world. If modern engines were available in the 80's / 90's, they would have leveled the playing field and perhaps Kasparov wouldn't have been as dominant as he was.

@@elyas4637 Interesting. I just looked at the ratings on 2700chess. I guess a big part of the reason is that too many players have Blitz ratings that are far too low for their actual strength. I don't see how Gukesh is possibly only 2627.2, Pragg only 2680, Abdusattorov 2688. Even Wei Yi at 2721.2 looks too low, when he is rated below a lot of out-of-form older players like MVL, Levon Aronian who haven't done much of late. There is also Vincent Keymer on 2601.8 who is almost 300 points behind Magnus Carlsen in Blitz. These ratings just don't look right to me.

How many times during the past 4-5 years it was like "ok, magnus is losing this", and the guy just refuses to show a bad version of himself. Insane mentality. He can only be beated by himself.

Every time I remember seeing Carlsen with a knight endgame, he wins. Wow! Horse are his friends. Wei Yi is incredible after time off. Wow!

I love watching Agad's video but still very novice in chess. Winning 10 straight (no draws) to beat Wei by 0.5 points, wouldn't this be considered the greatest comeback in Chess history?
