@@lulumoon6942 The Spanish greyhound, or galgo, is one of the most persecuted dog breeds. Galgos are used to hunt hares in the Spanish countryside. They spend their lives in damp, tiny, dirty holes or windowless shacks deprived of daylight, exercise and affection. They are typically fed only water and stale bread. At the end of the hunting season, countless are disposed of or abandoned. Sadly, the galgo's native land still views it as a second-class animal and few Spaniards will own them as pets. They are bred carelessly and used for hunting by galgueros (galgo handlers). At the end of the hunting season in Spain, the galgos deemed worthless or too costly to maintain are destroyed in a variety of inhumane ways - including being hanged, dumped into abandoned wells, shot, and even burned to death.
@polespinosa48582 жыл бұрын
@@siyete1 Most of those things aren't true or exaggerated. most people in Spain love galgos you will see many people with "adopted" ones in cities. there's 3 types of people in Spain regarding galgos . 1. true at heart galgueros: they are hare coursing aficionados and mostly, take good care of their dogs the thingy is that they are countryside people sometimes of low resources thus their kennels and the condition dogs are kept might not be pretty in typical pet dog owner eyes. they keep their dogs as the working breed they are. 2. Poachers/shady people: They are the ones responsible for the bad reputation of galgueros. they are unscrupulous illegal hunters that STEAL galgos from real aficionados to "use them"and then get rid of them as you mentioned. they are also the main reason many dogs are kept in literal "bunkers" to prevent them from being stolen. usually belonging to a specific "ethnic" group, ehem gypsies/romani 3. Animal "wrongs" activist: they are either good intentioned people strongly biased against hunters and galgueros with an unhealthy hatred towards them. or straight unscrupulous animal shelters driven by money and exploiting galgos's sweet gentle nature and aura , which makes them extremely popular "rescue" dogs, just for their own profit, exporting dogs all over the world to unsuspecting "adoptees" rather buyers. those people also STEAL dogs. In their minds they are saving them from horrible conditions and evil abusive conservative monsters. there's tho, a growing number of breed enthusiasts all over the world. owners and ethical breeders who work to preserve the purebred galgo español. they don't cross their dogs with imported Irish coursing greyhounds (which they are called English galgos here in Spain). breeders also participate in conformation shows and are much more "literate" than typical hare coursing aficionado/countryside folk.
@ES117772 жыл бұрын
@@siyete1 I’ve even heard (from PETA) that they are kept for blood taking and their blood is sent to veterinary clinics. I really hope this is not how most vet clinics get their blood from, because this is beyond cruel. Why are people so evil to defenceless animals?
@countryrat6t62 жыл бұрын
@@siyete1 that doesn't make a whole lot of sense... like I know a lot of people don't treat hunting or working dogs in the best manor, but to train then dispose of a decent hunting/working dog after one season? That makes no practical sense. I would also think that keeping them always confined and underfed would make them increasingly poor hunting/working dogs. I can see (though I don't support it) confining them and depriving them of a bit of food for a day or two before the hunt. That might make them much more eager to do what you trained them for. But always locked away... they're not getting regular exercise to keep up their stamina. Always starved... they won't have the energy, low stamina. Idk about Spain, but here in the US when someone has a trained hunting/working dog, they may not treat them up to common "pet" standards but they are at least as well cared for as normal livestock animals. Not much different from horses or something.

Seeing her leap through the snow in her little snowsuit was everything!!!!!!! My recent rescue who is supposedly a really aggressive pup, kicked out of foster homes, etc just licked me after 4 days so I get that feeling she had. It’s crazy how some pets, when aligned with a certain person, can just relax and be themselves. Ps I took on this recent rescue because my other pup who I took in at 9.5 years old, now 15 had a lot of aggressive tendencies that we were able to work through, so though I’m partial to chihuahuas, his behavior reminded me of my Butter’s so I decided to take him in. So far, so good. Only aggression has come from Butter who didn’t want me to put a matching collar on him. 😂😂😂 I guess it was too soon.

Ali was 17 years old, Penny, 15 and Kelly almost 17 when I lost them. Penny was 3 years old, pregnant, starved, covered in sores, etc, etc when I got her, so it has brought it all back and made me cry big time. This poor soul, 10 years old, half starved, pregnant, but the love and care she gave to not only her own, but also the other 7 puppies, who needed a mother just shows what a loving spirit this lady has. Very loving, special and beautiful Nanda is such a wonderful mama who gave birth to 9 pups (see her deliver one at :46) she made it look easy. Then two and a half weeks later, she lovingly took in 7 orphans as they were her own. They all have grown together to be so healthy and beautifully have fun together. Thank you to the dedicated rescuers who drove 10 miles to bring the orphans to her. It is such a blessing how she tried nursing them all but thank you to her foster mom for helping to bottle feed them also. Thank you for being her and her children's loving and wonderful first mom. It must be so sad to say goodbye when you've done so much to raise them and shower them with love and special treats, ice cream, and let them go on to their forever family. Thank God she now has a beautiful life with her new family. She looks adorable in her colorful pretty coat when arriving in Finland. I'm so happy she has a new loving mama. What a wonderful Galga! I’ve adopted retired racing greys for 22 years and absolutely adore their gentle, sensitive nature. It’s absolutely horrendous how the Galgo and Podenco breeds are treated in Spain. I’m so thankful to see Alejandra and her babies were spared the torture and murder most are subjected to. We hope to one day adopt a Galgo to our pack. I have medical issues due to kidney failure and my hounds have helped lift my mood on the hardest days and they comfort me as much as I did for them. Sighthounds have the longest history as working dogs with humans thanks to the Saluki. All the sighthound Breeds that are offshoots from the Saluki have thousands of years hardwired breeding to be in sync with their humans and are extremely intuitive to when you are in pain or sadness. I would highly encourage anyone to consider adopting a Galgo. Some come from the most dire circumstances and with recovery and patience blossom into such wonderful cuddle buddies. To this day nothing makes me happier than spooning our 92 lb retired racer Archie after a busy day. He’s as long as me stretched out and just the sweetest boy tucked under my arms. The only downside of the breeds is a shorter life span and genetic propensity to bone cancer (which is common in all L-XL breed dogs). My life has been made so much better by Ava, Augie, Atticus and Archibald. We hope to never have anything but Sighthounds!
