The Witcher SDR looked like log footage, mad difference. I thought you was going to review that adapter set 😅
@BuildMontage3 жыл бұрын
HAHA! I had my moment lenses on the desk, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them... And yes, the SDR Witcher is like log - so flat - even in HDR, the iPhone sensor just didn't pick up the dynamic range well enough as it is quite bright, but in person on this projector, it's pretty crazy! Except for the a-roll all other footage was shot on iPhone 12 Pro Max with the moment 18mm lens. My next video, I'm going to try out the 1.33 gold and blue lenses :)

Nice video with amazing side by side comparison. Looking forward to side by side comparisons of UST projectors. Is lsp9t still better at hdr performance as compared to chroma? And also can you suggest a good 120” screen to pair with lsp9t for a theatre room?
@BuildMontage3 жыл бұрын
I think it's hard to split the LSP9T and Chroma other than the Chroma is a little more contrast-y than the LSP9T and the LSP9T is brighter, a little easier to setup as well.

Hi Tony i am just looking at starting out in home theatre and am dealing with a room that will end up being wider than it is longer. Would you consider using this projector as your main projector? How big could you go before image quality suffers?
@BuildMontage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, I do use it as my main projector for my upstairs media room. My dedicated room is kinda different in setup but for my upstairs space, the Chroma works well. I have the speaker under it but I could go an acoustic grey screen and put an inwall speaker for my center speaker if it annoyed me but it sounds fine as I angle it up.

I bought a Hisense 100" UST projector and screen just before Christmas. I'm still finding it hard to align the screen on the bottom left corner. We had it installed by TV technicians (it was their first laser tv job). I'm a bit of a perfectionist so these little things matter. The auto calibration feature doesn't seem to work so I've keystoned it manually as best I can. Other than that it's a neat looking set-up. Plus is an ALR screen. Personally I like the look of a traditional white projector screen with a black border but progress....

@TylerStout3 жыл бұрын
I wonder how other projectors fair in comparison. Any reason you used the Vava over other projectors that come out of the box "finished"? Also were you using HDR tone mapping in the Panasonic player? I know during the UST shootout that they used some ocean scene from The Meg to torture test a projectors HDR since its mastered a 5000 lumens so on the Samsung and Hisense the scene was all blown out whereas on the LG it was fine. Personally I have the BenQ so no clue how it stacks up but it measured well in a Projector Centrals review.
@BuildMontage3 жыл бұрын
So yes, whole reason I love the Panasonic UB820 (that's my second one!) is for the tone mapping features, it just plays so nicely. I have tested quite a few UST projectors, and I have 3 coming in January alone from different companies, so the VAVA is here as the main projector. I did a review on BENQ v7050i and it was a sensational projector, excellent black levels and sharp picture. The LS9PT is also really nice, it is incredibly bright as well. This video is specifically about the VAVA Chroma and the HDR update - so I'll be doing more of these types of videos as I get new projectors in, and if they allow me to keep them so that I can make regular content.

As a current Chroma owner, I totally agree on their core optic tech. But be prepared for their poor quality control in production, crappy after sale and never updating softwares with bugs. It’s a great prototype but no where near a mature product. It would take very long time (months to years) to get a replacement if they send you a defective unit and that’s not uncommon.

Massive improvement yes. And no - not always. I have seen plenty of HDR movies on my Epson in SDR and it looks great and not washed out. The Chroma does struggle a little in that department. My Epson can apply LUTS to help SDR movies perform better.
