If you’re tired of battling slugs and snails, in this video we share with you 13 perennial plants that we grow and are guaranteed 100% slug-resistant.
We have tried so many methods to evade the attack of these slimy creatures on our garden plants but with an average garden containing up to 20,000 slugs and snails, the battle is often lost.
There are 44 slug species and 90 snail species that exist in the UK and although very frustrating to us gardeners, they play various roles in the garden ecosystem, from recycling organic matter to serving as food for other wildlife. So, while they might seem like garden pests, they contribute significantly to the balance of nature.
Learning to live in harmony with these creatures can be helped by growing a large proportion of plants that are completely slug proof. Our choice is not a limited one as there are many others that can be grown with confidence such as Aquilegias, Euphorbia, Lavender, Hellebores, ferns and Astilbe.

This has been the worst year that I've ever known for slugs and snails and I lost so many seedlings and young bedding plants that I was potting on. The slugs made it to the top shelf of my zippy growhouse and decimated the whole tray in just one night. I'd never have believed it as I thought they were slow movers. I watch a channel called Paul T's World and he set up a night camera and the footage shows just how many slugs and snails are out and about. I'm glad to see that I have most of the plants that you are recommending here. Hope you're both okay and had a more relaxing weekend than the last one. xxx

I agree Wendy, we've never had to do slug patrol before this year and many of the plants affected, have been fine in previous years. Sorry about your bedding plants and seedlings. It's devastating to find that whole plants have disappeared overnight. They say each garden in the UK has around 15,000 - 20,000 slugs and snails! At least there are some plants that can be grown without any damage. We had a much better weekend thanks. Take care xxx

@@MadAboutGardening I've just come back from the garden centre that you told me about. It was nice to see different plants and I was very impressed with their range of seeds. I bought quite a few by Sarah Raven plus two plant supports that seemed very cheap compared to other places. I was quite disciplined and only bought one plant (a red rose) as my garden really is full to the brim. My brother got two of the three plants that his wife asked him to look for and they looked really healthy. Clematis Montana and a Jasmine. We couldn't see a Daphne. Had a nice lunch there followed by cake and coffee. It was delicious and we'll definitely be going there again. Thanks for the info and I'm pleased that you both had a better weekend. xxx

Beautiful looking garden, its the bees knees. I have seventeen slug traps in the flowerbeds with a homemade yeast bait in them. I use copper tape around the pots to keep them out and so far so good. I have a lot of pots in the garden and I lift them up once a week during the day and find them hiding underneath them. The following plants that I have that are slug proof are astrantias, trollius chinensis, brook thistle, orvala, kniphofia, daylilies, astilbes, delosperma, hebes, fuchsias, parahebes, achillea, heucheras, sempervivums, sedums, peonies, African daisies, knapweed and campanula.

Thanks mate. You have the problem well under control by the sound of it. We find it difficult to grow achillea and the herbaceous kniphofia. The slugs got both of these last year. Thanks for sharing your list of slug proof plants 👍 I used to grow Delosperma when I lived at home, brings back good memories 😊
