i like Aoki-san's philosophy since he started the rx8, and since he started the 86, he challenging the stock engine with only reducing weight but always hit below 1min in tsukuba. he just a crazy scientist of cars really. He fabricated a lot of lightweight parts by himself. While other tuners just cares about power.

That's a real tuner right there. Much respect goes to his dedication and passion.
It’s crazy how much power can be squeezed from that 1.6l 3cyl engine with stock turbo and now Toyota is gonna mass produce them with the new GR Corolla. 65 kg/m = 468 lb/ft!
Great in-depth video, right down to nuts and bolt weight reduction! In the time attack you can see the engine light comes on a couple of times when he down shifts and the revs shoot up into the redzone.

In terms of the engine bay itself? No problem whatsoever. The engine can take 500hp if there are some changes to other parts like valves for example. The problem this engine encountered when you have that much power will be the head gasket and probably also upgrading the transmission to handle the bigger power.
@mrmorizofan70012 жыл бұрын
thanks for the great content, really interesting to hear what you have done both with the chassis and the engine. Assuming valve train with springs is also enhanced to get this kind of power, stock springs not managing this much hp?

Super impressive. Main question I have, all UK/EU/Aus tuners who have increased boost beyond 1.6kg/cm2 experience valve float, which can result in the lifters leaving their installed position. Does this car have upgraded valve springs? If not how are they managing 2.0kg/cm2 without grenading the valve assembly?
@cduartebr2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Is there a specific rpm range in which valve float occurs above 1.6 kg/cm², in this engine ?
@rotor132 жыл бұрын
Upgraded valve springs already exist. It’s like $300 for a while set. The engine should have better valve springs for the NA market when the engine comes in the GR Corolla
I remeber when they ran it against the A45 AMG and many in the comment section where saying that Best Motoring is faking it and a Yaris can’t be faster … lol they were not even getting started with the Yaris! Love that car! 💪

Check engine light on the downshift into the final corner!?
@jbu89gb2 жыл бұрын
Whenever RPM went above 7500 during shifts, check engine light showed breifly Perhaps warning set on the MOTEC ECU? The stock car also over revs on upshifts if you do not intentionally slow the shifts down a little, surprised to see same behaviour on an aftermarket ECU.
@zeroyon45622 жыл бұрын
I’d like to see a dyno graph for this, and how the turbo holds boost over the RPM range, surely it hits hard and early and then it runs out of puff up top? There surely can’t be a way for a tiny stock turbine to maintain 30psi+, unless it’s actually big? Edit: the stock turbo is tiny, how are they getting 440hp and 640NM from it?
@zeroyon45622 жыл бұрын
@@DeeOneLight Motive Garage’s video suggests the max the stock turbo will make with supporting mods including cams is ~380bhp on E85 which is around 105RON, to get another 60hp on an unopened engine even with 110RON is a big jump. The stock turbo is small, real small. Like TD04L sized from what I can gather.
@Sci-flyer2 жыл бұрын
Its a 1.6L engine, it doesnt need a massive turbo to make a decent amount of boost

Why does the RPM go so high on every shift?? Isn't that bad for the car?
@cduartebr2 жыл бұрын
It seems the driver steps on the clutch a little before lifting the throttle, so the revs jumps during gear shifts. I don´t see a reason why it would be bad for the engine, and it won´t over rev because of the limiter.
