Society, Martyrs and the Void are absolutely stunning. Society has a very tounge in cheek humour along with the twisted gore, Martyrs and the Void are just brutal in the darkest way and are just epic films. To be fair, Event Horizon is comparable to Hellraiser...Hellraiser in space if you will and is also stunning....you have to go back to Lovecrafts writing to appreciate him as most adaptations of his work are not authentic and have significant plot changes but either read or listen on audio book...his writing is intense and engrossing and well worth the effort.

Here's an important note for all directors and writers out there, leaving your ending "open" to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions, is lazy, and screams that you couldn't come up with one on your own, or were to afraid to take a chance and risk bad reviews because of your chosen ending. If viewers wanted to interpret our own endings, we would read a "choose your own adventure" book, or write our own story. But what's for sure, is we HATE open endings with no resolution.

He then whirls the paper into a vortex, which kills the guy by repeated paper cuts. Saw it when I was a kid and never could find it on KZbin.

Necromentia is truly one of the worst horror movies I've ever suffered through. Y'all must've seen something I didn't...

The most horrible thing is a horror movie or gore without a social idea and message, but made simply because of the violence. Violence simply because of violence is a mental illness.

I struggle to think of a horror movie in the last 30 years better than The Void. Maybe X, or the Terrifier movies.

I think including Clive Barker movies on a list about movies like hellraiser is cheating. All those movies take place in the same world, with characters who have crossed over in canon stories. Lord of illusions is like Hellraiser because Harry D’Amour and pinhead exist in the same universe. That made the list kind of disappointing with a very lazy feel to it.

@@multieyedmyr Absolutely! D’Amour vs. The Hell Priest is too good to pass up!

The vast majorities of these movies have zero relation or zero reflection of Hellraiser and are simply on this list to push societal issues. Anyone with a brain will deduce this within moments.

all the subsequent HR movies are worth watching - especially inferno.

Why is it that movies that are supposedly 'social commentary' seem more like pure propaganda?

I have seen a few of these movies. Fortunately because this video tends to spoil all the endings...
