I ran in the 1960 to 1970's some GM 702 v12's on Natural gas for 10 years. There were perhaps several thousand running to pump irrigation water in the western great plains. GM also made a 637 v8 along with the 478 V6. The V12 produce 130 hp at 2200 rpm and ran very smooth.

I know where one of the Jimmie V-12 are, it's installed in a 65 GMC pickup with extended front hood. It's sitting in a shed in south west Kansas. The engines were used in that area to run well pumps for irrigation.

For the Lanz Bulldog, 55 hp doesn't seem like much, but considering the extremely low operating RPM, it'll put out enough torque to make Godzilla's head spin. Just a guess, but I'm thinking over 400 foot pounds.

+Icarusaresane Considering that in the 20's steam traction engines were still in use in farm & industry, the Lanz Bulldog must have had tough competition. Steam power has increadible torque, multi ton steam trucks accelerate like a sports car.

Another fact about the Lanz engine is that it can rotate in both directions. If you don't get it right at the startup you have to stop it and try again. Or drive backwards :-D

Hey Visio, I got one for you. The 01-06 GMC 3/4 and 1 ton trucks had an Option that wasn't purchased too often. It was a 496ci (8.1L) Big Block V8. It wasnt liked too much because the Duramax Diesel was the same price and had much better torque and gas mileage. But many drag racers have picked them up and turned them in 1/4 and 1/2 mile monsters. Take a look into it, it'd be cool to see it on one of these videos.

there is a good reason they keeped the large diesel powerplant engine in Copenhagen in running conditons even if today only used as tourist attraction... there was some years ago a huge electric black out in scandinavia ... this diesel powerplant played a major keyrule to get the grid back into running conditions... because it needs no electric power to start it is able restart a dead electric grid

The Auto Union V16 with twin superchargers could, when tuned right up, produce 1000hp. Being as that was a racing car built before the second world war I can only imagine that it must have made for a car that was "interesting" to drive. By "interesting" I mean that the white cotton overalls often used by racing drivers at the time were probably not practical for drivers of them. To quote Jeremy Clarkson "some poo just came out..."

Which engine is at 6:20? At 6:00 the V12 Toyota Century is introduced. Then it goes to a twin turbo V12 with the red intake at 6:20; then to an older black Mercedes E-class on a dyno?
@VisioRacer
@VisioRacer 9 жыл бұрын
+theomnipresent1 If there is no other introduction, it means it is the same engine. However this one in that Mercedes is little bit tweaked and is turbocharged. Stock 1GZ is N/A
@theomnipresent1

The 'red' one at 6:20 is a twin-turbo, and has a non-stock intake. So it's also a 'little bit tweaked'; or a different engine.

The twin turbo with different intake made me think it might be the wrong footage, which was escalated by the next clip of an old E-Class on a dyno with no engine bay shot (since this is about the engine). *This* *whole* *Devel* *Sixteen* *thing* *is* *not* *going* *to* *happen*. I happen to know a production and engine-development engineer who works for the Quattro GmbH associated to Audi Sport. He told me that 5000 (and even 3000) metric horsepower was a ridiculous claim and that such an engine could never sustain the stress of everyday use. It would need a maintenance after every 100 to 200 km and a complete rebuild after 500km. Those Saudi amateurs should leave making cars to the people with experience and know-how.

The VW R50's Turbo Diesel V10 engine is quite a rare piece as well. Speaking of VW's, the Golf MK4 had a V5 engine. Not L5 like the MK5; an actual V5 (VR5 if you want to be more technical). Ford's Triton V10 is quite unique as well. Might be a piece of trash, but boy does it sound amazing. The Subaru Legacy was offered with a Boxer 6 engine; worth mentioning that because besides the Subie, only hyper-expensive Porsche 911's and Ruf's have that kind of engine. The Cizeta-Moroder V16T transverse mounted V16 engine is also worth mentioning. And lets not forget Saab's and Lancia's V4 engines.

The engine in the Lanz Bulldog is not a diesel engine. Compression ratio is just about 6 to 1. You can operate this engine with a wide range of flameable fuel because it has a cylinderhead that is glowing all the time. The fuel is directly injected in this glowing part of the head at round about 140 degrees before the piston is in top position. So the fuel , no matter what kind of, has enough time to get into a flameable gas. The piston does push fresh air into the glowing cylinderhead while it is going forward. Then the mixture of fuel and air starts to burn very softly. This engine burns diesel, petrol, kerosin, alcohol, pure oil and lots of more....

Cool video. Way cool engines. However, the caption for the quad turbo v-16 says makes 3000 hp on pump gas and 5000 on higher octane. It doesn't work that way. You can't just put higher octane gas in and make more power. The higher the octane, the harder it is for the fuel to burn. This can make more power in an engine, but you have to first increase the compression ratio of the engine with different heads and or Pistons.
@dougsmith3960
@dougsmith3960 7 жыл бұрын
David Ouradnik in a turbo charged engine you certainly make more power with with higher octane fuel because you can turn the boost up more before you start having predetination problems.

I'm curious about the audi sedan's engine, how rare is it?
@gosportjamie

+jinaro kabue The w12 engine is extremely rare in the UK, I believe Audi didn't even sell 100 A8 W12s in the UK over its entire production run. In other markets such as the US I believe they were much more successful due to lower fuel prices and such but they were never going to be high volume cars because they were massively expensive. The A8 w12 had a list price higher than the most expensive Mercedes S-class. They are also hugely expensive to maintain, a new exhaust system for one costs over £5000 and you can't just go to your local exhaust centre and get an aftermarket one because so few were made that it's just not worth the suppliers tooling up to make one. Somewhat bizarrely the same engine was also used in the Volkswagen Passat which must make for a rather amusing sleeper. Someone who lives near me has a W12 Passat estate/station wagon and you have to look really hard to tell that it's not a standard car, on the road you wouldn't know until it blew you into the weeds lol... They tend to eat transmissions which were never really a strong point on any A8, and they also tend to make a mess of the four-wheel drive system too which is less common on Audis, probably because of the fact that although they're not particularly tuned for power they produce a LOT of torque... In reality, the cars were really rolling testbeds for engine designs and developments that were being thought about for use in the much more expensive Bentleys and Lamborghinis which are also Volkswagen Group products though I don't think the W12 ever found a home in either due to tightening emission laws making turbocharged smaller capacity engines preferable...

+jinaro kabue Properly rare. You will most likely never even see one in real life, let alone be able to buy one. My dad works for Audi and he told me that they might have probably made and sold 10000 here in Germany (only about 5% of all produced A8 are the full-size sedan version and only some of them have the 6.3 Liter W12 FSI engine) and there are only a handfull in the US because of the enormous import taxes. The S8 on the other hand is much less rare.
@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 9 жыл бұрын
***** And to be fair the S8 is probably faster and a lot more fun to drive, the W12 is designed to be a big luxury saloon for people who have chauffeurs whereas the S8 is a real hooligans car and can be driven like a sportscar if you want. The W12, however, is a sublime motorway mile muncher, apparently you can drive stupid numbers of miles in a day and get out feeling like you've just got out of a nice hot bath...

+gosportjamie The W12 engine is still in production and fitted in the A8. The Passat 3B had "only" a W8 engine.

+black0utm1rage I'm based in Australia, I am guessing I'll probably have to import one, or are there engine swaps that can match this?

So far as I know Toyota has never brought the Century class cars to USA, The Cressida sold so poorly in the states, it kind of kept the high-value Toyotas from being imported here. Thats why we have Lexus.
