Good tips, I wish i had done more research on the route there, the Belgium roads were slow and congested and in poor condition, by contrast the german roads must be the best in the world, the autobahns are fast but usually busy, and quite narrow. Also its difficult to know when you are in an unrestricted zone, and they drive fast and close to you , and don't hesitate to cut in front of you. I also got the green sticker just in case I needed to go into a city.

You are right about Belgian roads, crossed the border on minor roads near Luxembourg and instantly you are on pothole alert. I’ve never worked out what the green sticker was for, thought it was tax or insurance for German registered car so was mega confused when I saw it on a UK car! Now I know so thanks for that 😁

@volkswizard what company did you use for the insurance

The roofbox option for wider tunnel coach is an excellent tip....(tried it on the booking form and it was only £5 extra) ...thank you Andrew

Spot on re the Brussels ring road, I’ve either got stuck for hours in it or received a speeding ticket 😂 great video thanks you Andrew
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Sparky - glad we concur re Brussels. The navs tend to think it's the best route when you are at Calais but once you've committed to it, the jams can start and there isn't much you can do about it. I dodged it last time but Liege was trouble instead but the nav took me on urban roads around the issue which it never wants to do at Brussels.

Thanks for the tips, I’ve booked my first trip to the ring this year. Quick question do you need to pre book for the gp track sessions?
@billyskoda6839 Жыл бұрын
Excellent route tip. I travel there a lot and it always amuses me why people take the wrong route. E42 and then through Malmedy, Monshau (worth a visit) and Blankeheim is by far the best and quickest route

On Touristenfahrten days, what is the cost for spectating at the track? My dad and I are going to drive the track and we are trying to figure out if we'll be able to walk around and explore the track before/after our drive.

Another cracker Andrew! Really enjoyed those ring vids, hope to be back there myself one day after a 15 year hiatus. Been meaning to ask what car (VAG obviously) would you consider for say £25k-35K? Must be used as a daily too.. I'd love another golf gti like the clubsport 40 but am more persuaded by the 'more grown up' facelift B7 Audi S3 Saloon or RS3 Saloon if funds allow, problem is the insurance of the RS3 double say the Golf R which I also am considering the 7.5R.. Would probably do one or two track-days a year also. Hmmmmm decisions decisions... I do like the 2017+ S4's too. TT RS?
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you nailed it early on - Clubsport 40 with the right spec is the car I'd go for as it's special but a good daily. I'd go for DCC, bucket seats and wouldn't say no to a car with a sunroof. If you can see beyond the fact to most people it's just a Golf GTI you have a much sweeter road car than anything else on your list and it will work on track (with decent tyres). RS3 is too much of a theft risk, S3 too and image is a bit dodgy these days, same for Golf R. The latest model of TT RS is a good car but it's not as practical as a Golf obviously, does sound good and is quite rare and less of theft risk than RS3. But as ever, a VW Golf remains the answer to every motoring question :)
@bogged9820 Жыл бұрын
@@volkswizard Thanks heaps Andrew, yeah I gotta say the Clubsport 40 I'm leaning most towards. Hear ya on the RS3 which explains the high insurance, I couldn't believe the insurance quote of the TT RS was less than half the quote of the RS3 Saloon.. mad, guess it's less practical as a getaway car for thieves!

What’s the plan for the edition 30, I thought you might take it to the ring but you took the clubsport. Both awesome cars..
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
The Edition 30 is my 'go anywhere' car so I use it for odd jobs and trips to Birmingham. Clubsport S to the 'ring had to happen due to the car's history there. I was hoping to take Edition 30 to Wolfsburg but that might have to wait until 2024 due to costs

Diesel has always been more expensive than petrol in the UK. Rip off Britain.
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
Yes that is not right seeing as diesel is largely unrefined crude oil so its manufacturing cost is cheaper than petrol. Diesel cars are lower on Co2 as well generally too which is better for global warming. However the government hasn't screwed diesel owners on road tax (I am sure Labour will though) which is surprising considering they are the work of the devil (if pre Euro 6) according to environmentalists.

Using the standard size carriages on their eurotunnel is fine for the mk7 golf,I agree it is a bit narrower but if you can't drive in a straight line then your shouldn't be going round a racetrack.ive done its a few times with racingline alloys on my mk7,never had an issue.
