Personal Anecdote: I decided to make sleep a priority a few years back. I'm lucky to have a job where I don't have a hard start time. So I would go back to bed if I didn't get proper sleep or was really tired still and I would just work later into the day. Over time I found myself more productive and finding less excuses to skip the gym. Plus I was overall happier.

around 36:29 YES! milk cannot be over-encouraged here if you're not intolerant and are having a hard time getting enough calories. i never really liked milk. but i was having a very hard time just eating at maintenance (in a healthy way, that is). i was at a loss because my appetite was so low, so i gave milk a try. i figured it had to be easier than trying to stuff myself more or chug protein shakes. and it definitely is! i still don't really like it on its own, but with a meal i was surprised how much I actually enjoyed it (even started to crave it wtf?). i drink about 12oz at each meal and it has been a huge help for hitting maintenance. 12oz 3x a day is about 675 calories. there's no way i could consistently hit a small surplus without it. fairlife makes milk that has less carbs and more protein too. it's more expensive so i don't drink it all the time, but it's tasty and it helps on days when i eat more carbs than normal. once money is less of an issue, i'll switch to it for my new milk habit.

On ur point of training frequency, I used to always do the same muscle group twice a week. The strongest I've ever been I did the same muscle group once a week, I thought it was stupid at first but I gave it some time and it showed me once a week is enough. I went every week I was consistent and I always gave it all I got every lift 1000%. Maybe twice a week for some people is beneficial to them more but to me personally once a week was good enough for me and made me stronger than ever.

@@amperage8032 I just follow a routine created for me from my boyfriend.. it was mostly for my hips and low back, which were giving me the most problems. Ironically enough, the changes to my lifting routine was to actually do LESS. This was tough for me mentally, but I realize now I was just beating myself up with volume. I want to be doing this for the long haul and now aim to do just enough to create a stimulus and take care to move my joints in more than just the sagital plane (previously my routine exclusively). I just got back into weight lifting a few years ago and only just started hitting each muscle group 2 times a week. It seems to be working. My strength gains have most definitely improved, especially since i started lowering the total sets. For the first several weeks I'd do for example: a full chest workout (15-18 sets) then come back a few days later and do half of that. Now it's more like a 60/40 split with different exercises on day 2.

I expected one of the main points of advice to be to train in phases. Avoid getting stuck in the same rep ranges and vary them up methodically. I might also add utilizing various modalities. I know the team is all about lifting weights and focusing on compound lifts (and that's all fine and dandy), but the body gets used to this and adapts slowly to the benefits after a while. That goes for any form of training you practice (sports, HIIT, etc.). There are dozens of ways to train, introducing activities like rock climbing or breakdancing can help unlock a lot of new movement patterns and galvanize muscle growth (and be more fun!).

I had this same concept as well. Still sore, don't work that body part. Learned later in life that you need a "level" of soreness and sometimes you can hit that body part 2 or 3 times a week. I tend to split Legs/Shoulders, Chest, Back (w/ deadlifts at the end) skip day and Bi/Tri with my first and last exercise being a compound movement (gymnastic pull-ups and dips (first) and drag curls and close grip or JM Press (last).

Could easily also name this pod 'Muscle building tips I wished I knew day 1". Awesome to hear the full circle of viewpoints as trainers that coach clients, lifters / workout enthusiasts that use this info in real life adaptations, and knowledge powerhouses of fitness from a macro down to micro level. You 3 transition seamlessly between each other and I appreciate the individual experiences shared as examples. Only been watching a handful of videos so far, but for sure am gonna tune in often from now on and submit a question or five ha

What's up? You guys are the best! I grew up playing sports and was bigger than everyone in every grade but never worked out.. I'm 6'5" and 46 years old but unfortunately I'm only just now taking my exercise health seriously. I grew up competing with others in random feats of strength like done after Festivus. Keep up the great work. I will be strong one day.
