An interesting thing to note regarding the Mossdeep Space Center in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald is that the CPU who says how many successful launches have happened will always say "A successful launch is imminent" if your cartridge's internal battery ran dry since when that happens, the game can no longer factor weeks, let alone time at all.

In generation 1, pressing the A or B button when catching a Pokémon does impact catch rate. Pressing A or B advances the frame you're on and catch rate is calculated using a number of factors which yields certain catch frames. It's a trick speedrunners use to guarantee 100% catch rate on specific encounters in the early game. The encounter frame is manipulated to ensure a specific spawn on a specific tile with specific stats in order to make the run viable and consistent each time. Once the encounter starts, a speedrunner has to input the right button presses to guarantee a 100% catch on that Pokémon while it's at 100% health. It's called a "yolo ball" and the window for success is tight. Pressing the button too late, too early, or too many times can advance the frame to a potential non-catch frame and can end a speedrun before it begins. There are certain catch frames that are always a guaranteed fail, as well. In casual play, it could cause you to advance the frame from a non-catch frame to a catch frame accidentally and visa versa. So, to say that it has no impact on the catch rate isn't entirely accurate. Remember kids: you can mash your A's and B's but it could mean the difference between a catch and a fail! The strange souvenir was never intended to do anything, it was an easter egg to tease gen 7 just like the poster of g-max toxtricity in the lab teasing gen 8 and even Jasmine being in Sunnyshore teasing HGSS.

I STILL to this day mash various buttons when trying to catch pokemon haha. I know it doesn't work, but at the same time, doesn't hurt! I also was doing the talking into the mic thing way back when playing Red- I was trying to encounter Kangaskhan in the Safari Zone and in desperation was whispering "Kangaskhan" into the speakers every time I encountered a pokemon to increase the chances of it actually being Kangaskhan 😂

The power plant in the desert is the place you're thinking of. Like Pokemon Z, that was more theories, speculation, and rumours than full on myths, I don't remember people having actual proof that Volcanion was there with some hidden way of accessing it, it was more just people thinking that the event would give you a key or side quest leading to a key that let you in to catch it or even that Pokemon Z would open it. It was people trying to figure out their purpose using potential future events more than claims the purpose was known and already hidden in the game.

But gen 6 was so rushed so they could get gen 7 out in time for the 20th anniversary, which is why we never got anything for it, nor a Z version or the like. Instead, we were just handed the mythicals and the special Zygarde stuff was tacked on to gen 7.

From what I remember, you had to have beaten the elite 4, go back to mt pyre and talk to the old couple who told you where to find kyogre and once you got there, you had to use surf and surf over kyogre to wake it up and then battle it. Obviously that wasnt the case lmao

A widely reported and talked about rumor at my school was that Celebi was the evolution of Mew and that it could learn the most powerful move ever: Time Travel. It would result in an instant win for Celebi's trainer and only Mewtwo could learn Anti Time Travel, which would prevent an instant loss. Another rumor stated that if you had a level 100 Pokémon and stopped doing anything while Red & Blue was running, that your Pokémon could reach level 1000 😂😂😂😂

I remember before gen 4 came out, I had heard that rocket launch myth or a variation of it and was testing it myself in Emerald, more to have definitive proof it was fake for my friends than believing it myself. I got to successful launch number 99, saved my game..... And after 5 minutes it was still trying to save... And then it said there was an error, showed the game clock background and said something about having to save again... Then an hour later the batteries died. When I finally got them replaced and turned it on, it said the save file had corrupted and wiped my game entirely. Never been more heartbroken about a game, even when I had a power outage during the cutscene purifying Shadow Lugia, my final Shadow Pokemon, in Gale of Darkness after a full day playing and never saving...

Funny thing with the a b mash for pokemon, I had a weird belief as a kid that if I threw a ball and didn't move and held my breath it had a higher chance of being caught (using real life knowledge of catching stray cats and being still and approaching slowly; I guess this is why I loved the safari zone so much) because somehow, the mythical all knowing pokemon gods *know* when I'm breathing or moving. I still find my hands stiffening when I catch a pokemon. At first I just held the a button after I threw the ball, then moved into stiffening and holding my breath. It's kinda like jumping during a game or moving your controller. I still, to this day, believe I'm cursed to only be able to catch Pokemon with a standard ball. Every time I go to catch a legendary I'll burn through every ball except for about 5-20 PokeBalls, sometimes down to the last 1-3. I'd always save beforehand in case I ran out.

First off, Deoxys was available in-game in gen 3, but only in Emerald and Fire Red/Leaf Green, you just needed to get an special ticket released in a real world event, that allowed you to go to Birth Island, where you move a strange triangle around until it shatters and Deoxys appears. However, each game had him in a specific form. Speed in Emerald, Atrack in Fire Red, and Defense in Leaf Green. You could then trade it to Ruby/Sapphire, where it would change to it's Normal form. Secondly, the shrine did have a purpose in Crystal once you brought the GS ball with you. The only problem was the GS ball was only legitimately obtainable in the Japanese version that had a special mobile station where you could connect your Game Boy to a cell phone. But once you obtain the GS ball and take it to the shrine, you end up putting it in a secret compartment and a level 30 Celebi flies down to attack you. Also, a myth I myself believed was tilting your Game Boy to the side would make your opponent's HP drain more. Finally, I'm surprised the Pokegods didn't appear on this list, as there was literally an entire website of myths and methods of obtaining these supposed dieties, some of which where proposed 3rd evolutions of 2nd stage Pokemon like Gengar.

I always thought of that one as a jirachi myth because 1. deoxys has an in game location, at least in fire red leaf green and emerald 2. the space center has an NPC tell you about the white rock and wish tags to wish for astronauts to return safely 3. deoxys' pokedex entry says it fell to earth on a meteorite why the fuck would you fly into space to capture it.if it already fell to earth. 4. the song from the 6th pokemon movie featuring jirachi includes the lyrics "swim across the ocean blue fly a rocket to the moon"

Forcella me, I can understand how American audiences would be confused. The truth is, in the Japanese version of Crystal Version, you had to download the item for the GS ball in Goldenrod City Pokemon Center. You were supposed to use the Gameboy Color mobile adapter. You download the in-game item, take it to Azalea town and give it to the guy that makes Pokeballs. He will then say what it's for, then you bring it to the Ilex Forest shrine and then Celebi will come down and attack you. For the American version, you're supposed to use GameShark.
