As a kyokushin student, I have great respect for this marcial art. Me as well as my 5 year old son are kyokushin students and all I can say to those saying this aint nothing hard, you are sooo wrong. In my first kumite I was nocked down with ago geri in first 30 seconds,and i felt like it lasted hours.Thats how hard it is.My jaw hurted for days after.Later I was better but I can say that 2 or 3 minutes of real kyokushin kumite is much more than lot of people writing here would ever last standing

I would say for those who "don't think this is a very hard feat, or those who pretend to "know" what Kyokushin is about. When people try to pick apart something most times it is because they just don’t understand or they are afraid. So instead of sitting on your computer and complaining about this by all means go find a KYOKUSHIN school and try just a 10 man kumite then come back and let us know how that went… OSU

OSU! Hello from Arizona, I will be testing for my 6th Kyu rank here soon, and I can honestly say that Kyokushin Kai Karate is a beautiful and powerful art it is no joke. I always respected any martial art out there but for me, Kyokushin is the art I wish to study. I have good friends I have known all my life who have practiced different styles who are very talented within those arts. I have been criticized and have been made fun I have been laughed at ( not from my friends) who have said that kyokushinkai karate is weak and not practical in life and how Mas Oyama never did not do a 300 man kumite and all that. Well since June 2015 I have been part of KyokushinKai Karate and I will continue to on as best as I can for me. I can not speak for others but I know how practical it can be in real life. This is my reflection on KyokushinKai since I started to practice it. Hanshi Fred Buck is my teacher his father was Donald I. Buck who learned from Sosai Mas Oyama. blessings to all here OSU!

All the great masters have stated its not the particular style of art but the teacher and then user of the art. We are martial artists and each of us is worthy of respect if only for that alone. We are a sub culture to the rest of the world just like those before us. Stop with the petty comment wars over who is best. I revere the old masters from Oyama, Ueshiba, Funikoshi and even the Ghurka, the Spartans and Celts. Each honed themselves to their environment and that made them great. The respective styles of the arts are only breaking down a few aspects of what war taught us. We all know true hand to hand is ugly and brutal. Style doesn't matter, those who've had SD or wartime situations can attest to it. Each style is actually just an extension of the culture that spawned it. Human anatomy hasn't changed so there's really only a certain set of ways to break or disable it.

***** I would say that you found your art. Look at Bas Rutten who is known for taking his training to the streets to prove or disprove himself. Mas Oyama sensei was the same in that he took on all comers and went to those who wouldn't come to him. This led to Kyokushin Karate. There is a truth in combat that cannot be discounted. I was a bouncer for 10 years before getting serious about my martial training, I was blessed with teachers who helped me not only hone my physical skills but the mental as well. I apply all of that into my security operations, whether going hands on or negotiating a contract. In my mind you are already a martial artist, refine your technique. Think of it this way, if you were to teach a young person what you know about street fighting, how would you convey that information? Do that first and you'll be able to refine your art.
@cugnaoozen995610 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with your constructive argument, I can even add that Kyokushin is an evolution of the karate according to Oyama experience in life and street fighting, he even killed a US marine with his bare hand in self defense. Kyokushin was a merging of the shotokan style and goju ryu style, as well absorbing muay thai skills like the low kicks, then kyokushin gave birth to the japanese kickboxing with incorporated the muay thai moves and the western boxing and the spinning moves of the kyokushin karate... then immigrated to Netherlands and then taught to the actual MMA fighters.

Why do people insult other styles. Sosai (Mas Oyama) trained in other styles to refine his and didn't disrespect other styles. You could argue and insult all styles all you want, but what all the BEST mma fighters have in common is that they have an excellent base style (or two). You can never be a TOP mma fighter if you throw a bunch of different styles together quickly. True MMA fighters dedicate themselves to different styles and not a soup with different ingredients. MMA is the ultimate test, but people don't understand the origin of UFC and the spirit of Martial Arts.

There's a story in Kyokushin regarding Muay Thai.Mas Oyama brought his boys over to Thailand to fight with their Muay Thai fighters. Mas Oyama's guys got destroyed and they say it was mainly because of their roundhouse kicks causing so much damage.Oyama went back to Japan and improved the roundhouse technique to suit the Japanese build.Thai guys have generally slim hips,Japanese guys generally thicker set round the hips so more muscle mass, more power.They went back refined and owned apparently!

Each round last 2 minutes. You have to win above 50% of the fights, but you cannot lose by ippon. If you can connect a meaninful strike that hurts the opponent you have a wazari, and that's a win at the end of the round, you can win by ippon if your opponent is unable to keep fighting, you can have a draw at the end of the round, if either fighters doesn't do much, and you can even lost that round... but If you get hurt, you have about 5 seconds to recompose yourself, or that would be the end for you, you can´t lose by ippon.
