And Valtra in 2002....Fiat Bought New Holland in 1993 and bought Case in 1999. All of those companies had Financial problems and sold.

Maybe because Fendt was several times in financial trouble in it's history. There were many ups and downs and many competitors (worldwide) disappeared over the years.

I think the biggest difference I noticed is that you were just... sitting there? Unlike before in the RX, you had to keep watching the RPM, shift as if you're in a drag race, and yell at the tractor so it would shift faster lol

I would really have liked to see a fuel consumption comparison between them. If you set the implement width on the fendt screen it will give your gallons per acre and that's the number that counts when it comes to fuel. Our 930 seeds at 0.32 gal/acre,

Interesting. I've been pleasantly surprised by the 1167 since you did that first drag race.I'd been led to believe CVT transmissions are mostly worse in fuel efficiency and power losses. I'm still not sure what the truth is regarding fuel economy. I found it's nebraska test results recently.If i'm reading it right,compared to the Deere it seems to have slightly *better * fuel economy under load. Of course it gets complicated because the tests cant make everything exactly equal. They manually chose a gear for the Deere in the test. Meanwhile the Fendt may or may not have been at it's most efficient speed .CVTs have several points in their range where efficiency is at maximum.They could have tested the Fendt right at it's sweet spot. Either way it seems the 1167 is very close in performance and economy to manual trans tractors.Well done Fendt

Here in Europe the CVT’s are more economic in fuel than power shift gearbox or other. It’s because we have small fields and we make a lot of transport with trailers or also a lot of road between the fields. We have to adapt the velocity of the machine constantly and also to change frontward and backward a lot of time in the day. And also we don’t work with the full power of the tractor in the wheels very often. We see the efficiency of CVT with the constant rpm of engine, always at the top of efficiency of the engine. In our work condition, it’s better to have a part of hydrostatic in the gearbox than to shift all the time. But if I would have so big fields like in Canada, and I would need to pull a drill with all the power of the engine with a constant velocity all the day, I would not choose a CVT

At Nebraska test every tractor is tested at different speeds and gears (if available). The test shows pretty good where a tractor has it's best efficency. A really extreme example is the Case IH Puma 150. It's CVT changes the ranges between 13 and 14 kph and the second range is very inefficient at that speed: At 13 kph the tractor consumes 280g fuel per kW and at 14 kph it's 370g / kW while the drawbar hp decreases from 116 to 101. Fendt's CVTs work differently. Their efficiency is much more even. Powershift transmissions' efficiency varies depending on the gear.

Superb seeing these 2 setups side-by-side. The Fendt seems to be doing a (boringly) good job. How much of a deal is it over a season having to refuel more often with a 400gal instead of the 450gal on the Deere? I get they both average 20gal/hr so the Deere is going to get 2+ more work hours between refuel stops. But as others have commented, surely gal/acre is the more useful figure.

I think what he's getting at is fuel use per acre is not a big cost (compared to everything else needed to grow a crop), while having to make an extra fuel stop really messes up their logistics

Looking forward to seeing if you can make a full day on a tank Mike. 20×20 is 400, so if you're burning 20 gallons per hour you should be able to make 18 hours with 40 gallons to spare - but that is cutting it pretty close, running 90% of the fuel out!

Talk about "Swapping Operators", It would be neat for you to temporarily become Chapel's care giver and have Ashtyn run the new Fendt 1167 and get a female's perspective of how the new unit performs plus she would have greater knowledge of how the 1167 compares to the 1050. The possible only issue to this scenario is that it may be difficult to get Ashtyn out of the driver's seat once she gets a good taste of seeding 2022 with her knowing that you are available to perform fatherly duties.

You should definitely adjust those gearbox settings, it looks like there is some room to get less lag and reduce fuel burn. We all know that Fendt wins by a landslide in comfort and adjustability, but comparing fuel consumption and the initial price tag is probably more make or break.

Hey Mike, I had a discussion with a student who studies mechanical engineering and has written a thesis on power split tractor transmissions. And he says that the new gearbox what the 9er, 1000er and also the MT has inside are around 92% efficiency in the perfect working range. a manual transmission such as an e23 transmission has around 93-94% efficiency in the perfect working range but exact data have only the manufacturers and they do not give them out. that CVTs are so much worse than manual transmissions is now only a rumor. they have caught up pretty well. He says that when people say that a weaker tractor but with a mechanical transmission would pull better that is purely psychological. if you measured the drawbar performance you would find that the 1050 pulls better than a 450hp tractor. And what I wonder is do your machines have RTK?? if so do you do that via mobile data?? what provider do you have for the RTK signal and how much does that cost you per year per machine?

What matters is the efficiency of the whole machine. It's pretty simple to compare by looking up Nebraska tests. There, tractors get tested under the same conditions. I did that with several machines. The 1050 has nearly the same drawbar power as a NH T9.560 or a Steiger 480, which are comparable in their engine hp. A John Deere 8R 410 with e23 has 440 hp and does not reach the drawbar power of a 1050. It's more comparable to a 1042 or a 1046. The JD needs less DEF but a bit more diesel. So the 1050 or generally the combination of VarioDrive and MAN engine seems to be pretty efficient, especially for a CVT.

@@ronchappel4812 I compared them some time ago. The 9RX has 38 hp more maximum drawbar power, but under ca. 4.5 mph the 1167 MT gets more power to the ground. And the Fendt takes less fuel, 17.29 Hp.hr/gal while the Deere 16.69 Hp.hr/gal. The Deere is way better at DEF consumption. By the way, Fendt makes no secret out of that the power the 1167 MT puts out to the transmission, is limited to 620 hp.

@@mikemitchell2554 They brought Fendt One first in the "small" Cab of the 300, 500 and 700 series. Then went on with the bigger cabs of 900 and 1000 series. All that cabs are produced in Germany. The cabs of 900 MT and 1100 MT are basically from Challenger and produced in the USA. So maybe Fendt was not able to switch all series together to Fendt One. Also the shortage of computer chips since months might be a reason.

Yeah it's hard to compare. Your more setting a speed target and the tractor does it's best to match it while saving fuel, although I think you can do auto with the Powershift? Not sure how Brian is running it. But if it's manual your kind of doing the same thing, I guess depending on if your going for holding speed or holding rpm. I'm curious to see the fuel use difference, and there's something to be said about the convince of CVT

It would be assume if you share list price/warrantee of Fendt versus each of the other tractors you do comparisons. Price and warrantee are major factors when making purchase decisions.

I think that is a major selling point for Mike as well. The Fendt's have a 5 year warranty I think. Which if the new ones didn't break down wouldn't be an issue, but 95+% of the breakdowns on any of them have been emission system problems.

Better is a big 250 gal tank on the air-seeder, there's space enough beside the 40bu saddle tank, the mini-bulk storage platform. The Bulk-boom can lift max 2400 lbs so an extra tank and fuel pump and ready to roll, you could switch them if you want, just an extra 250 gal if you need it, a tank on the front would block the air flow of the radiator I guess.
